  1. Whitey, I do ask those folks all the time. They usually have answers, even if I don't like it, they can answer the question. I've never heard any of them say "that's not my job". I see, hear and read all the time about the businesses they are courting. We can agree that I'd like to see a better "closing ratio" or success rate from these entities, but lots of folks in Paulding are not making this county look like a great place to relocate or start a business. Let's look at ourselves too when it comes to this issue. As for Blake, I heard from him frequently about the producers and mov
  2. I'm sure that, with these houses, there will be lots more fast food and low end retail to help offset the tax burden. Sigh. A question we should all be asking our commissioners and mayors at least once per month. How many businesses have you spoken to in the past month in order to develop a relationship and promote Paulding as a great place to move / start a business? If they could answer this question succinctly, it may help them lose their "anti business, against everything" image. I know that when someone asked Tony Crowe a similar question at his town hall, he said "tha
  3. Our county has always had, has now, and will have the government it deserves. Both good and bad. As long as 87% of the county votes "I don't care", and only activist are voting, we'll get what we deserve. As long as any of us start off a comment (myself included) with, "most people in this county want / don't want __________", we are being delusional and only surround ourselves with people that agree with us, and assume that the majority are "with us". I can't remember which candidate it was in which race, but he was the only person that was somewhat accurate when he said, "the ma
  4. Tundra, I love your posts, but you guys cannot keep using this one. A few folks voted against the airport or airport candidates, a few voted for them. But, 87% voted "I don't care". I try to empathize with whomever is the BOC Chairman and try to ask myself, what would I have done or do if I were them. You know that there is a huge train coming down the tracks with our tax base, yet you know that the majority of the 13% of the folks that vote are against growth. You, however, are in charge of the entire county, not just the 13% that voted, and you need to do what you feel is in the bes
  5. All jobs should always be filled based on address, not ability. BTW - I'm sure an experienced airport director with be pedigree the CAVE's say they want is just dying to jump on this dumpster fire. Seriously, of all the airports in America, why would a great, experienced director want this job? Regret is a tough thing to wake up with every morning.
  6. Congrats to the winners and to those that busted their tails but came up a little short. Please, please focus on reaching out to your opposition and start working on healing. Folks, if your guy / gal didn't win, please give the other guy a fair shake before we start obsessing over the next election. The whopping 13.5% turnout should humble all of us that thought "the majority of the county is on our side", myself included. We need to all work on getting more folks interested in what's going on. That should be something on which we can all agree. Cinnamon brooms anyone?
  7. Whitey, I love ya, but this is simply an inaccurate statement. It is one of those things that was true 10 years ago that folks just hung onto. Take a look at their board. I see several small business owners from here in Paulding, mixed in with some larger industries in the area. The folks that say this, and I've heard several current commissioners and folks running for office repeat your talking point, never seem to be the folks that are at their events. I often wonder how folks that are not involved in the Chamber can have so much insight into how it should be ran. Get involved if you h
  8. We've eaten there a couple times, really like it. They actually cook the chicken on a grill behind the glass, you can watch it being cooked. The plantains (spelling?) are awesome. I loved the sauce bar, tried out a few things that I never knew I'd like (guava BBQ, pineapple rum salsa).
  9. Probably the best factual (removal of feelings and grudges) exchange I've seen on here in a while. Thank you everyone for the lively debate. I'm so ready for today to be over so we can go back to arguing over when the cinnamon brooms will be available at the grocery store.
  10. Sorry, I was unclear. If the new guys win some of the elections against the incumbents. I still consider Ron Davis a new guy. Not sure he's been there long enough to form a credible opinion one way or the other. Seems like a nice enough guy, but can't really judge anything else. As for Tony and Vernon, I need to see them be for something, rather than always caucusing with Todd. I'll give them a full term before I become infatuated with their opponents. I want to see them get outside the Chicken World circle though. Some of the advice / pleading I made above are for myself too,
  11. I saw on the Stop page where they were blasting one of the guys running for commissioner because he dared say "most of the folks I talk to don't care about the airport". I don't see what's so wrong for the guy to simply repeat what he's being told while on the campaign trail? I can attest to the same thing. Over half the folks I talk to don't even know we have an airport. Of the other half, a handful care one way or the other. I'm not sure how you can make an accurate, credible statement about the will of the entire county when less than a fifth of registered voters take the time to stand
  12. Lowrider, you make some great points. If we don't need the SPLOST, then I agree, vote against it because you don't believe we need it. That's a principled argument. My concern is this. We can punish today's residents for the sins of administrations that have been out of office for years now by defunding our Sheriff's dept, roads, schools, etc, but who ultimately suffers the consequences? We all get to snicker because we shot it down as we drive down bad roads, hope that a deputy will come in our time of need, and look for a private / home school for our kids. I just want to have hope
  13. While I commend the fiscal conservative nature of the main posters on here, I do wonder what, exactly, anyone is actually FOR? While I get and even agree with the general attitude towards SPLOST, I just wonder where, exactly, you guys think our county is supposed to get funds to run the county? We are against SPLOST, we don't want property taxes to increase, even though it's a mathematical fact that, for every $1 collected in property taxes, over $1.60 is spent in county services, and we vehemently oppose anything that may attract an industry to this county, whether it's an airport or tru
  14. Tundra, I love ya. I think it was roadcrosses that posted the initial link with the Zillow address. Didn't mean to imply it was you. While I don't agree with yalls main issue, I respect he heck out of your "little revolution." Just don't want to see y'all doing the exact same things that y'all complained about with them. Otherwise, y'all have replaced one government that y'all have accused of being unethical with another one. Appreciate the lively debate.
  15. I get it. The super mature "they started it!" argument. its called "stalking" folks. Doesn't matter who did it first or what your motive is, it's weird, creepy and destroys your credibility. Wouldnt you say that behavior such as this is what started yalls little revolution? Acting exactly like your foe makes you the same.
  16. So, what exactly were you trying to accomplish by posting the man's address? Please tell me there is a reason, other than obsession, that you know it in the first place.
  17. If tonight's turnout at the post 4 town hall is an early indicator to voter turnout / apathy, then all candidates are in big trouble next week. If you take out the candidates, department heads and anti airport folks from other parts of the county, I bet there weren't 2 dozen folks there from Seven Hills and Bentwater. While Tony isn't my horse, I do commend him for trying to get these neighborhoods involved. This just solidified my opinion even more more that very, very few folks in this county, as a percentage of voters, give 2 squats about the issue that 15% of this county obses
  18. Quite frankly, at the county level where you're running for a part time job, I don't have a problem with this. Most of these folks have other jobs and giving them some time to research a topic and articulate their opinion isn't a big deal. If some of them are really being supplied the answers by someone else, that's actually smart. As long as it's their ideas that are being shared, I don't have a problem with it. Where I get annoyed is that 4 out of the 5 questions were about the damn airport directly or indirectly (I may be off on that number, but it was definitely the majority of que
  19. Chuck Clancey is the new owner over there. In my run ins with him, he just seemed like a crotchety, angry man who left a bad taste in my mouth. I took my business to Woodland Hills. He ran his car dealerships into the ground and left a string of unemployed, bitter former employees behind. It looks like he's trying to replicate this at Creekside.
  20. The Frog and Bentwater have great driving ranges and short game areas. I've never been turned away, and I'm not a member. Creekside is public, but I'll never give the new owners over there a dime. It is, however, a decent range.
  21. I can't get the sentence "doing alligator stuff" out of my head. That's just awesome.
  22. So after scanning the video and hearing from folks that were there, it sounds like less than 100 folks actually came out. My first question is, does this sound about right to you guys that were there? If so, to what do you attribute literally less than 0.0006% of our county's population turning out for what we have been led to believe is the biggest election in the history of the state? I know a lot of folks have had their say about so many candidates skipping the debate. I guess my thought is, if these turnout numbers are accurate, wouldn't a candidate's time be better spent knocking on 2
  23. Here is what I know about this page, along with the 14 dozen pro airport, anti airport Facebook pages. Nobody is picking their candidate or changing their minds based off what they read here or there. I like Dave for the Chairman position, but I'm trying to get to know the other candidates just in case there is a runoff. After watching last night's debates, I am convinced that this county is about to take about 10 steps backwards and become a bigger laughing stock to the rest of the area. While everyone else is growing and expanding their tax base, we are going to whistle by the graveya
  24. So Whitey, I had a chance to hear Mr. Dobson. Here are a couple of thoughts, I'll be interested to hear everyone else's opinion here. If you feel this should be it's own thread, feel free to copy and paste into a new one. I agree that he is a very likable guy, which is important if you are going to be the CEO of our County. I enjoyed hearing about his experience as a small business owner, his responsibility in creating jobs and understanding how to budget. A couple areas of concern. Not necessarily things that would keep me from supporting him should a runoff occur, just areas o
