  1. Thanks DD, I'm relieved to hear this is not taxpayer money.
  2. OK, here's my $.02. I have a couple of good friends that are out of work and come over during the day to use my internet to look for jobs. If you are in a position where you have no family or friends that are willing to let you use their internet to look for jobs, or you have no family or friends that can take you to the library a couple of times per week, my guess is that it because of choices you have made that have put you in this position. I'm sure folks are about to give me their one out of a thousand examples that are exceptions to this generalization, so I'll give you now t
  3. Honestly, if it's Comcast, then I don't have a problem with it as I have a choice to stop using their services if this is something with which I disagree. If it's taxpayer money, that's a different story.
  4. I just read this article, and it was unclear as to where the funding for this program is coming from: http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/low-income-families-get-1085935.html?cxtype=rss_news Does anyone know more about this? Is this Comcast's money, or taxpayer?
  5. Dallas First Methodist is hosting a basketball camp for this age range the last weekend of the month. It's from 6-8 on Thursday and Friday night, then Saturday morning. It's a great, inexpensive way to introduce him to basketball in a non-threatening environment. You can download the registration form here: http://www.dallasfirstumc.org/#/welcome/ PM me if you have any questions whatsoever.
  6. OK p.commer's, there were several of you that brought your kids here last year. It's time for DFUMC's Upward B-ball and Cheerleading camp (Aug 25-27). This is a great way to introduce your kids to these great sports, or for current players to keep their skills sharp during the off-season in an environment that stresses values over statistics. PM me for a brochure.
  7. I'll be in favor of it if it is self sustaining, i.e. the fares support the system. I don't want it to be a money loser like Amtrak that constantly needs tax bailouts.
  8. It was more tongue in cheek to the folks that will refuse to shop at a store that is occupying the space that was once a store they liked. Sarcasm usually gets lost in text format When I lived in Nashville, there were tons of folks that said they would never shop at Opry Mills because it occupies the hallowed ground that was once an amusement park. This discussion just reminded me of that, except this time it's an old Kroger.
  9. Just noticed that Academy has already began the process of hiring: https://academy.taleo.net/careersection/10120/jobdetail.ftl?lang=en&job=357282 To you haters out there. How many Paulding County jobs was an empty Kroger building bringing? I guess it should have stayed as a memorial to your beloved produce.
  10. Correct, my apologies if I was unclear. The stores dictate how much shelf space can be used by their vendors. Vendors will typically choose to put as many units in this space as possible. As someone who once stocked grocery shelves, I can tell you that we were typically trained that pulling a few smaller units to the front looks much better than pulling one or two large units to the front, as someone purchasing just one larger unit makes the shelf look bare again. The smaller units are typically a win - win for the store and the vendor. The "loser" sometimes may be the customer.
  11. I was absolutely blown away by the irrationality of this discussion. I never need anything from Kirkland's, but I was sure glad that they rented that empty building building and filled it with PC residents working and paying taxes. Maybe I should never go there because it was once Pier 1, and I liked them more
  12. Just so long as they don't choose a location that was abandoned by someone's favorite store. That will, somehow that is still oblivious to me, cost Paulding County money.
  13. Got me some $7.99 t-bones from there on Saturday, cooked one for the wife and me. After she had a couple glasses of wine, I told her how much I spent at the golf store IN KENNESAW I guess I'm just a goof off.
  14. Agreed. If one of these open up, I'll patronize them as well.
  15. "Goof offs" that want to buy golf balls pass probably 20 grocery stores between here and Kennesaw. Just curious, where do you think Kroger is headquartered? Any of these stores hire locally. Most sporting goods stores pay commissions. When one of the "goof offs" that you mentioned buys $3,000 worth of clubs in Kennesaw, the is a commission that went to a Cobb County resident and not a Paulding County resident. That's also sales tax that is going to Cobb County, not Paulding County. Just because you don't like sporting goods doesn't mean that all sporting good stores should find
  16. Trust me, there have been many days where I wish I had my gun at the golf store. Now I'll be able to stop by Academy on my way to the course to get ammo and golf balls. Brilliant move on their part
  17. OK, I'm already a fan of Academy. I've been looking for a lob wedge for a while to put in my bag. I went to their site, and they had one for $4.88, and only $7.00 shipping. Sports Authority had an awful selection of these, and they were much more!
  18. I don't understand all the Sports Authority / Academy haters. Seriously, are you not going to shop at a store just because it rented the space that once was a store that you liked??? Fact - there are several golf courses around here. The only place that carries golf equipment that I have found is Sports Authority, and their selection is extremely limited. Serious golfers won't go to the back of Wal-Mart for the 3 shelves of $5 golf novelty shirts that they sell. People like me routinely drive to Kennesaw to the PGA Superstore or Golfsmith and spend lots of money that could be spent
  19. If putting $1500 into will make it run like "almost new" and you can get another 5-10 years out of it, than you would come out WAY ahead vs. buying a new car outright or making car payments.
  20. I can answer this question from the grocery store's perspective. It's all about shelf space and placement. Companies would rather have more "units" in the shelf space allotted vs. larger sizes of less "units". It looks better, it doesn't run out as fast, and there are greater margins in selling more units vs. more volume. They are trying to get as many units into their shelf space as possible, per the grocery store's standards. Also, I know most of you seem to have larger families. For those of us that don't have crumb snatchers at home, having smaller portions means we will be throwi
  21. Kirah, I do press releases for a living. Who all, other than Paulding papers, needs to be on your media list? I'd be more than happy to send you an up to date one over. PM me.
  22. I hope he gets to punt a record number of times, playing for the Eagles
  23. I had to look this one up too. It's not too terribly expensive: http://elevationchophouse.com/ElevationChophouse.html
  24. My wife's birthday is coming up and I've been scratching my head. This looks great! Thanks for sharing.
