  1. Yes, the broken window theory. I don't think there's any dispute that Rudy and his team cleaned up NYC. I think it makes a lot of sense.
  2. My sister developed a huge irritation like this and it turned out she's allergic to the bromide or whatever it is they use to treat the water in hot tubs. I hope she went to a dermatologist; if she didn't and it continues, I would encourage her to do so. There's a reason some drs. are called specialists... Poor girl!!! That truly does sound miserable.
  3. Health Dept., environmental office. We used Skyline Plumbing and were pleased; this was about three years ago. Don't remember the cost.
  4. HAHAHAHA This is one of the funniest things I've read in awhile. Who gave you a neggie? I gave you a plus to balance it.
  5. Oh, honey, I'm so terribly sorry. Please know that you will be in my prayers. I can tell you from my own up-close-and-personal experience with grief that God's grace is greater than anything you will ever face. Right now, you are in shock. If you need somebody to talk to whenever you feel like it (or vent or just cry), please PM me. Either way, just know that I will be talking to the Father on your behalf.
  6. Get out! I swear, the things you learn!
  7. Good manners and civilized behavior are NOT just a Southern thing. Amy Vanderbilt and Emily Post were not Southerners that I know of. Now, whether Southerners are more genteel these days is another topic for conversation. I also agree with your second statement - it is VERY clear that having good manners isn't a priority in our culture. It's very sad.
  8. Hand-written notes for me, too. So much more civilized. And the effort it takes shows the recipient is grateful for the gift and cared enough to say so. Sorry, but a text saying the same thing just isn't the same.

I'm thrilled that the 92/Old Stilesboro intersection is getting a traffic light. And I love the roundabout on Burnt Hickory. That really was a quirky intersection. I'm used to driving through 2-lane ones at Hilton Head, so that one's easy. The other day I was there and maybe 8 cars were approaching/entering the roundabout..the intersection cleared in nothing flat. How many roundabouts? And at what intersections? I'm trying to think...I'm assuming you're talking separate from the traffic lights already in place? Or do these replace traffic lights?

Travis lives down off 92 south of Hiram, unless he moved. Agree with Dallas Bigfoot - I'd ask the SO to beef up patrols in the area.
  11. I decided a LONG time ago if a cop tried to pull me over at night to keep driving until I reached a populated, lighted area. You can slow down and put on your flashers to let the police dude in the car behind you know you saw him, and call 911 to tell them as well. NO WAY am I pulling over at night. This girl is so blessed that the guy just said "never mind" and went on. The ending to that story could have been so hideous.
  12. Yeppers. There's something amiss in the old cranium with this chick.
  13. Good heavens. I didn't realize we don't have a homeless shelter. I do second the recommendations of Bird Mom's place or MUST Ministries. Both would be good places to give, and Bird Mom takes vouchers from other aid agencies (and the other charities may as well). Truly, I do not understand this thinking. This isn't like something that's going to attract a bad element or something that's going to be a huge drain on society. We're talking a temporary home during hard times for those who need it. Which could be funded totally by private donations, I have no doubt, if they didn't wan
  14. Yeah, I know...I was messin' with him. I don't know what y'all get paid, but I swear it's not enough.
  15. So...what you're saying is that you're not as good (or as lazy?) a reporter as whoever called him from 11 Alive? There you go again...showin' off that common sense. Hrmph.
  16. OK, that last statement was just WRONG. I ain't givin' up Shemar for nobody.
  17. My dr. prescribes this for me when I can't sleep due to coughing (bronchitis, etc.). It's AWESOME. You're right that you can't drive while taking it, but DANG, it has been a lifesaver for me.
  18. I would also say that before an area allowed gambling, that that area should take a good look at other areas that have the same, and what problems have arisen because of it. Organized crime, petty crime, poor property values, etc. (I have heard these things listed as problems in Atlantic City, for instance.)
  19. The Nanny State is where it's at, doncha know. For the record, I'm an evangelical Christian, and I don't care if they allow gambling. I won't participate, but I am all about freedom. Besides, if the churches (and church members) would act more like what they say they believe instead of looking just like the world, they wouldn't have to worry about nitpicking gambling, etc. :soundoftoesgettingsteppedon:
  20. That's what it was, then. Thanks for the info.
