I asked my mother where we stayed when we camped in the Keys and she said one of the state parks north of Key West, which would probably have been Islamorada. There are several state parks down there. Here's the main link for Florida state parks: http://www.floridastateparks.org/ Here's the link for the S. Florida state parks (note how many are in the Keys): http://www.floridastateparks.org/findapark/district-southeast.cfm We have had the BEST experiences staying in state parks around the country. One that sticks in my mind at the moment is a couple in West Virginia...LOVERL

    SOPA

It's not just you, dearest. I'm against SOPA and the other internet thing that's working its way through Congress. They ARE trying to take freedoms away by the truckload. Both parties, as you said.
  3. EXCELLENT!!! I wholeheartedly second the advice to read The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker (security expert). I have it and have read it at least three times, and will read it again, I'm sure. FANTASTIC book. Should be a MUST READ for everybody, really. Here's another article about the pressure to look good that's excellent (courtesy Madea): http://inkdot.tumblr.com/post/7243925631/no-sheeze

Niagara Falls - meh. I mean, it's ok. Just nothing to write home about, really. But def. Grand Canyon, and do that thing where you can walk out onto that platform and see allt hew ay down. On that same trip, you really need to take in Hoover Dam and do the hardhat Dam Tour ($35, I think). UTTERLY fascinating. Hated Las Vegas, as previously stated. One thing about traveling out west - it's not like the east. In some remote areas, you might see one vehicle in four hours. Gas stations will be MUCH MUCH farther apart, and ditto restaurants/grocery stores/etc. I love the west, but it s
  6. Excellent points made by the others. Personally, all other things being equal, I'd go with the Accord.

The route no longer exists in its original form. However, you can still piece it together with a little work. I've never done it, but have thought about it.

Oh, the automatic levelers thing would be awesome! We never had any of those, dang it. RE: rear camera - good idea as well, although I must say (patting myself on back here) that I am the master backer-upper of trailers. When I would go camping with the parental units, they would get out and make me back it in. Of course, this won't be a problem with you; we were pulling a 23' trailer with an F350 dually. Anyhoo, I can see where a rear camera would come in way handy on a single-unit thing. GREAT that your friend is so familiar with things. Oh, you are gonna have so much fun! I w
  9. It's happened in that same place more than once. Weird. RE: birds in sharks' tummies - Thoughts had a good explanation, I thought. (heh)
  10. Yeah, I'm not for the tax on sodas. I'm too libertarian to think that's a good idea. Alcohol and cigarettes are dangerous and regulated substances, so I see the tax on those. And I suppose some would argue sodas are dangerous as well, but I can't think anybody out there would place them on the same level as alcohol and cigs. Now, if they ever have the sense to decriminalize/legalize marijuana, I support a hefty tax on that like alcohol and cigs.

Miami and its surrounds would be the main concern, I should think. And you'd be fine there as long as you stayed in nicer areas. I figured you'd be armed, and that along with your loverly GS, you should be fine. RE: Class A - it is a GREAT time to buy any camper because the market collapsed with the economy. I personally probably wouldn't go with a Class A just because of why you describe. It's big. But you have some GREAT choices out there, so you can see what's what and then decide. And keep us posted!
  12. I believe we're paying .69 with Walton, which is generally the cheapest. The PSC web site will show you all the providers and their charges both variable and locked-in.
  13. In reading that link provided above, it does appear that some sort of appeal was done, but all elements were rejected, and apparently he didn't try for more.

RE: perimeter of Florida - You can cut across from Naples to the eastern shore pretty easily, but I personally think you'll be missing the very best part of Florida if you do. It's SO worth the effort to see Homestead (lovely farming country) and the Keys. You can skirt Miami pretty easily if that's what you're looking to do. Also, it'll take more time, but when you do cut across the southern part of Florida (which you'll have to do whether you see the Keys or not), I'd rather take Alligator Alley than the interstate. More old school. I'm weird that way. Also - re: perimeter trip...d
  15. I think he was sentenced in 2005, so that would make it six years. But you're right. I guess there's a process they have to follow.
  16. Imma get you to come walk our neighborhood and tell everyone what you just said. I'm a big gun-rights person, but it does get to be a little much. Our neighborhood backs up to Jola's, so we're probably hearing the same things.
  17. He did not avail himself of any appeals...that's why the sentence is being carried out so soon. I'm with zoo partially...I will not rejoice in this, but as momof3 and tugboat said, a person causing the death of a child deserves no mercy here. Send him on to God and let Him sort it out.

OH, how I love to camp! If you've never done the RV thing, rent one (check them out online)...they're very popular as rentals these days. That way you can see what you like and don't like. We took nomadic vacations every year (sometimes twice a year, like a week after Christmas to the Keys or whatever) when I was a kid. GREAT experiences. The bad - either you have one you have to pull (Fords pull trailers better, I hear) or one that has a motor in it. The second will eat up gas, but you won't die. Plan your stops...I would stick with reputable places or state parks. Man, we have se
