  1. I'm sorry for the folks who use AOL's browser and older MSIE browsers as they, by definition, are now simply obsolete. How could that be? The two - MS and AOL - used to set the standard but with declining fortunes the rest of the Internet apparently declined to accommodate the idiosyncrasies of the former masters of the universe particularly when doing so would make them vulnerable to the same hacker attacks as the obsolete browsers. pubby
  2. But you can post: Passwords: usually ON (for optional forums like Paulding Place and Emergency services ) ... and the TONK ... is YUK pubby PS: Regular members I don't think can even see the tonk forum.
  3. Surepip: I know it seems daunting but believe it or not, the new browsers are just another program like photoshop or excel. Your computer runs what you want it to. On the fastread page (top post) are a handful of browsers that will work. If you can get there, just click on anyone one - most recommend FIREFOX - and follow their instructions to download and install it. the only real question is whether you want to make your new FIREFOX install the default browser. How could that be if you have AOL? Easy, AOL is not your internet connection... you connect to AOL through
  4. I believe 'another' reason suggests more than just a 'first' reason Solo. Here are a couple: AOL used to be cool ... in 1995. When they made the movie "You've got mail" in 1998, it was no longer cool. Internet Explorer (and its derivatives including AOL's browser) had 90+ percent market share in 2006 and that made it the primary target for every criminal computerist in the world who chose to target it for exploitation of the masses. Hence, for every malicious hacker working on Firefox, there are 500 working on finding a way to rip off folks using IE. Call that the first mover
  5. Also, if you would, report for moderation on one of the paying member posts that is 30 miles long. I've not seen any of those and want to see if it is a browser thing. Do report the browser you are using as well. That is most likely in the menu bar across the top of the browser under HELP and ABOUT. That is also likely where you'll find a link to inquire about updates to the browser. pubby
  6. I'm sitting here reading Pcom and noted that the type on my 1900x1200 pixel 17-inch laptop monitor and having to strain my eyes just a tad to read the site. It used to be you had to go do adjustments to make things work well but all it takes to make the whole site a lot more readable is to depress the control key, the shift key (not caps lock) and the "+" key and the entire site increases in size - text/banners/ images/ video all of it grows by about 10 percent. Not enough, repeat the sequence. If you have a large screen with comparatively low resolution - say an 800x600 resolution
  7. With the changeover, email addresses ending with paulding.com are not coming through as they should. For that reason, now, more than ever, it is best to contact pcom staff (adman, Bizness, pubby) via the PM system on the site. While we do have some limited access to our emails, we are uncertain if all email being sent to us is even being delivered. We also expect to have that rectified, hopefully by Tuesday if not sooner. pubby
  8. I'm suspecting that the gibberish may be a by product of the Rich Text Editor and possibly some cut and paste. When we first started up the test board (newhope2), I was getting a bit of this when going back and forth between the Rich Text Editor (Wysiwyg) and the straight text (tags visible) editor... particularly when it was copied and pasted between the two. It seems to come when you take something and try to edit in HTML or it thinks it should. I don't have much trouble with it now which tells me that it is some niggling little thing that sets it off. I am surprised that it bit you t

    So....

I am all over it and I've been quite vocal about it to those at Invision Power Board about how they broke something that wasn't fixed. I've looked at the program options for the media file and recognize that it going to be relatively easy to accomplish by someone with just a smidgen more coding power than I (Which isn't a whole lot ) I suspect that I'll have found that person by next week... maybe sooner. It is a priority of mine. pubby right now they'd coded flash to run in the media box (like the youtube videos) and the custom BBcode remains. It was these kinds of changes
  10. Don't ya wish that Florida had not gotten that gimmie call that gave them the tying TD in the Arkansas-Florida Game ... that kept Florida in it ... to win. pubby
  11. Drosser: Any paid membership gives the holder privileges and that includes access to premium forums. Pricing ranges from the $4.99 for one month (high but cheap if all you want to do is list a car for sale and want posting privileges in the got the goods forum - i.e. premium access to that forum.) There are other deals including the $9.95 for a half-year membership (members plus) and $19.95 and $29.95 personal memberships. If you check the portal page (fastread) you might also peruse the "coupon" offer for a $29.95 "Sports Club" membership that gets you, in return, a $20.00 Star
  12. Lovecanbuildabridge: I think in your case, if the colors were closer to what you are accustomed, it would be much easier. So, let me give you the instructions on how to make that color change. Go down to the fourth thick bar right below this post (the colors varied). Look at the far left and you should see the term "Halloween" with a drop-down button immediately to its right. Click on the drop down (it is just to the left of the word English (USA) ) and select the first version IP.Board. I think you might have to hit return (or maybe even go) but, with that one selection an
  13. I know that we've not done anything to change the skin from default. I have to believe you know the dropdown box on the bottom left of a page is where you manually change. There may be some other setting in your settings that forces the one over the other but I'm not aware of it. (Like you, I'm still learning some of the ins and outs of this board so while I have pretty good understanding, I can't claim true expertise.) If that fails, it sounds like either a cookie thing. I would recommend going to the bottom of the main forum page and clicking on the button for clear all cookie
  14. Oh No it's Me: I've got to ask if you are among the 4 percent of users who has an older 800x600 svga displays. Google analytics tells me that something like 94 percent of the users (including mobile phone folks) use PC's with displays sized 1024 x 768 or larger. About 38 percent use 1024x768 and the balance use displays that are larger. Most computers ... even what counts as an old computer these days (from 2004 or 05) are capable of displays of 1024x768 or greater. It does tend to make the type smaller on the screen. You might try right clicking on your desktop screen and selecting

  17. Two things: First, the sound will be removed from the header later tonight. Second, it only makes a sound if you move your mouse over the pumpkin. If you avoid that, it won't make a peep. pubby
  18. that sounds like an IE 6 or 7 issue ... I know that those browsers were never 100 percent standard and that they've had problems. Those who have taken this opportunity to upgrade have not been disappointed (actually, because security holes being plugged are the main reason for upgrades, you're not doing yourself a favor by holding onto an obsolete browser. ) pubby PS: I'm going to start a topic with links to the major browsers and updates.
  19. Actually, it has been pulled off line largely because folks were posting things they want to last over there and I'd rather them not. While off line, the old board remains connected to the net. We have some other things to deal with including pcom emails, etc. that will take a bit longer to accomplish. pubby

    PUBBY!

Thanks for the woohoo's!!! I know how much folks don't like change but it was time to make this move. And, Yes, LR, that 'no staff' thing goes on my list. pubby
  21. The new Recent Topics page - one of the most popular on PCOM - offers more new stuff than ever before. As you can see from the arrows above, you can review not only the recent topics - topics from the past 24 hours - but also the newest members; the newest images (like this one) posted in the gallery, the newest blogs and more. Those who are premium members will benefit most as they are entitled to free gallery and free blog with their premium membership. I just think that is really neat! pubby

  23. we will be making the dns change here in about 10-20 minutes but do know that it may take an hour or more (hours) for all the various points on the Internet to get the message. All I can say is that you'll know the board you're on by its look. pubby
  24. The issue is now solved. Seems there was a field missing in the database. The upgrade software was supposed to write the new field for the Search optimized topic URLS.... you can see in the URL above "http://dallas2.paulding.com/forum/index.php?/topic/228037-welcome-to-the-new-pcom/" it adds the name 'welcome-to-the-new-pcom/" to the topic's URL. There just was not a field in the database to write it to. We fixed that and all is well in mudville ... as opposed to mudberry which is where the Hornet beat Sprayberry by a point. go Hornets. pubby
  25. I've gotten a few of those too. pubby
