  1. Forties and a whole lot of melting. Could re-freeze Sat night. mrnn
  2. It sure was pretty while it was falling.....I was able to grab a few great pics and videos and got to play with my baby girl in the snow. Obviously, anyone who moves to GA doesn't do so for the snow but, nonetheless, it's pretty damn cool to get a good storm every once in a while. I thought this was going to hammer us pretty good....nearly every model had us in the sweet spot. Unfortunately, it appears Mexico is stronger than Canada when it comes to the battle for temperatures at 850 meters in the sky. 'Til next winter mrnn
  3. Ha! Ain't that the damn truth! I'm using a PTO day tomorrow and named it a "snow day"....I don't give a damn. A good friend of my wife's was just given the ability to work from home (she's up in Nashville). They've had a good bit of snow and a winter break so she's been stuck home with her kids for 2 weeks and still working...she's about to pull her hair out. But ya know what? When it's summertime, you and I will be chilling on our laptops by the pool or the porch while these other schmucks are commuting an hour into the office. It all evens out. mrnn
  4. Really disappointing, though I haven't given up hope. The temperatures aloft are just too warm for us. The low in the gulf pushes warm air up north and, somehow or another, it's overpowering the arctic air coming from Canada. Worse yet, our surface temps have increased as well (I was 31 earlier, now 32 and some change). We may still have some luck later tonight as that push from the south moves eastward but, really, the only way this storm was going to produce significantly was if we were snowing for most of the event (perhaps rain at first). I'd be absolutely thrilled to wake up to an ad
  5. Paulding, especially Central to North Paulding, has consistently been in the "sweet spot" for nearly every model consistently today except for one outlier. Totals vary a bit. Here are the 4 models that James Spann out of AL put side by side to compare (the NAM is the obvious outlier): Here's a Facebook video from the GA NWS folks from just a little while ago. Looks like they have us in the 5-6" range. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=949577921721637&set=vb.211963985483038&type=3&video_source=pages_video_set Could be a real fun day for the kids
  6. Here's the RGEM model which is pretty much the happy medium between the GFS and NAM. I'm rooting for this one. It's not alone, either, there are a couple other models nearly echoing this map. 7-9" for Paulding. Probably a little on the high side, but looks great to me! Here's a summary from DDD, from the GON Forum. He's not a professional but has a pretty solid record when it comes to winter storms. mrnn
  7. Latest run was the GFS, the other American Model (along with the NAM). GFS trends South and a lot less precip than all the other models. It really comes down to temps at 850 meters (in the air) and the amount of power the system holds. The NAM would blow us up with snow but is showing that it will be too warm. The GFS says we're plenty cold but there won't be any moisture to blow us up. I guess we (those who want some snow) need to hope for the answer to be somewhere in the middle...cold enough and enough moisture to bomb us with snow. I know very little about weather but have
  8. It was supposed to be "the" night but if this northward trend continues, we're sheeze out of luck. We were in the absolute sweet spot earlier today. Hopefully the NAM that just ran becomes an outlier. Only time will tell. mrnn
  9. We were in the money until the NAM model that just ran. Paulding in the 3-5" zone but we're right on the South side of the storm. It moved WAY North on that run. mrnn
  10. Wednesday afternoon into Thu morning is really shaping up to be interesting based on watching a few weather forums. Several models showing us getting atleast 5" of snow. I'm hoping it hangs on and doesn't move too far North on us. mrnn
  11. Amen! A couple years ago we had a retaining wall extended around a driveway extension and stairs built into the retaining wall to the back yard. I was expecting a few grand....it was $8000! The guy did great work (and I'd refer him to the OP if I could remember his name lol), but man, very expensive. mrnn

    AT&T

I don't recall it ever being advertised as "fiber to the home"? I don't work for a LEC but am in the industry. It is prohibitively expensive and inefficient to maintain older platforms in parallel with newer, updated platforms. Beyond money, you're also looking at service levels....as UVerse becomes more mature, they'll inevitably lose many of the technicians responsible for maintaining the older equipment via churn and/or retirement which means if you, as a customer, still have a POTS line or old DSL, you could have a technician who doesn't know how to fix it. In addition, fiber to
  13. Y'all got pretty fired up for this episode. Great points throughout, especially the fact that the county should be buying out the folks nearest to their new commercialization venture. BTW, sweet sweater on the lady on the right. mrnn

    AT&T

Do you just call the customer service folks? Do you say you're thinking about leaving or do you typically go ahead and cancel then wait for a callback? This is intriguing to me.....I'm an awful liar but I'm sure I could be somewhat convincing for $100/mo. mrnn
  15. Would you know if you were one of the aliens (assuming they've taken human form)? Or would they keep it a secret from you so that you don't let it slip? Are doctors in on the conspiracy or are these aliens all like bugs? Maybe the governments are holding them captive but that seems like it'd be a good reason to share their secrets, to be released. Seems there's been a lot of UFO/alien talk in the last couple weeks. There was some former White House official who recently retired and said his only regret had something to do with top secret alien documentation.....some dude from a cheezet

    AT&T

Has everyone who have tried AT&T retention had success? I just feel stupid calling them and threatening to leave when I know I probably won't. With that said, for 4 cell phones, fastest internet, U450 TV (5 receivers), and home phone I'm paying just shy of $500/mo. That's a killer bill to pay every month...it's a lot of stuff but seems steep. The main thing beholding me to AT&T is I have an AT&T MCell tower at home (basically for homes without good cell service...uses internet to provide cell signal). Does Verizon or any other carrier have something like that? mrnn
  17. My 9yo daughter thinks she's hot stuff. She changes outfits 27 times a day and looks in the mirror to make sure she still looks good. That's confirmation bias. If my daughter were to do nothing but stare at herself in the mirror every waking hour with an MP3 of people saying how beautiful she is playing through her stereo, that's something far beyond confirmation bias. But that's what we're talking about....retired people who sit around and drink this sheeze up nearly every waking hour. mrnn
  18. We made the switch recently.....I wish we would've switched YEARS ago. They're so much easier to deal with. I agree with you, though...if it was about the environment they'd give you a bundle of reusable bags free when you sign up for a shopper's card or something instead of charging a buck or two a bag. mrnn
  19. And I don't think anyone mistakes you for being a bitter old white guy, either. MeiLan has never given me that impression. MsHoward isn't bitter. Many of the conservatives on here aren't bitter, though there are DEFINITELY exceptions (I won't name names, many are, thankfully, no longer on this site). I didn't post the article as a means to cast stones here on PCom...many of you have been very open that you don't watch FNC or listen to Rush, Levine, etc. But some do. Many outside of this board do. Those are the people the article is referring to...they immerse themselves, deeply, int

The UVerse data limit is 250GB/mo....95% of users will never come close to hitting that soft cap. The phone does not become unusable during a power outage. They provide a backup power unit to keep your router running when commercial power fails which keeps VOIP available. Based on screen shots from here on PCom in previous threads, Comcast does blow the doors off of AT&T for internet speeds. If you already have Comcast cable, I'd definitely call to see if XFinity is offered in your area. AT&T or Comcast, you won't go wrong with the next-gen systems, imo. mrnn

    AT&T

UVerse is the next-generation platform for AT&T. I've had it for a couple of years and love it. It's competitively priced, solid packages, internet seems more reliable than their DSL service was. I don't think they're trying to rip you off or anything, they're trying to get you current. mrnn
  22. I can't argue with you on that point....any business who finds a way into a person's subconscious will abuse that ability to make money. The one difference I'd point out is that agitating the "negativity bias" results in a viscerally negative reaction whereas MSNBC feeds progressives' feelings of empathy. Empathy can result in anger, no doubt, but surely not on the same level. I don't know....I'm no shrink or doctor, nor have I stayed at a Holiday Inn recently. I just think it's interesting stuff and seems to be somewhat related to what the author of my OP article was writing about.
  23. There has been a considerable amount of research over the last several years looking into psychological and physiological traits that can predict a person's political ideology. Really fascinating stuff if you're bored one day and feel like doing some online reading. One of the consistent findings is that conservatives have a "negativity bias". This isn't necessarily a bad thing, at all...it's just something that conservatives show more consistently than progressives. The "negativity bias" simply means that people with the bias are drawn to negative things. These things don't even have to
