  1. Ha! No, just that you've never read "1984". To your credit, I don't recall blackwhite or black-white being a part of the book. I do recall "black is white" being mentioned which isn't nearly as ambiguous to someone who hasn't read the book. ETA: It's been a long time since I've read that (high school) so I Googled it. I was incorrect...."blackwhite" was a term in the newspeak. Here's an article about it: http://www.peterlewis.com/2013/10/03/blackwhite-and-doublethink/ mrnn
  2. It doesn't disallow it, either. The bill basically just removes any and all paths of recourse to individuals who are discriminated against. The business can simply say that they object to some characteristic of an individual and providing them a service would be in direct conflict of the company's religious beliefs. So no, it doesn't explicitly condone discrimination, but it sure as hell doesn't doesn't discourage it, either. As I posted in another thread, I'm actually in favor of the bill....not because I'm a bigot, but because I believe in free speech and trust the American people to
  3. This never happened, but it's a fitting analogy. I once had my son's friend call me sick. I was really offended, thinking he thought I looked cancerous or something. I called him out on it. He told me he meant sick like in the snowboarder way. So now he's saying I look like I have hypothermia? Then he accused me of making fun of people with hypothermia, which his mother died of. The kid used a term that I knew nothing about other than the literal meaning. He clarified but I was unfamiliar with the source with which he was clarifying. The whole thing devolved and I wouldn't let
  4. I had this happen one time. It was crazy. I was laying in bed just dozing off and out of nowhere was like this boom.....I literally thought I'd been shot in the head, quickly kind of rolled over/sat up up in bed, and grabbed my wife. I still think of it from time to time....tough to describe how weird it is to imagine, very realistically, getting shot in the head. It was so "loud" that I could feel it, too. I was under a lot of stress at the time so that's what I chalk it up to....I hope it never happens again. I did find it funny that I learned that this is actually a "thing" and tha
  5. I know there's a PC repair/sales place in the Kroger shopping center at 278/61....may be worth dropping by there because, from what I can tell from a bit of reading online now that you mentioned the formatting error, your issue may be with Win 7 and not the disk itself. If you drop by a repair place they'll likely either have an old Vista/XP machine laying around that should be able to pull the files off the floppy (bring your drive and cable with you just in case) and onto a thumb drive or, if worse comes to worst, they may be able to recommend a business that can help you out. mrnn
  6. So when you click on the a: drive, it shows no contents in windows explorer? Sorry to belabor the point, but it's important in trying to figure out what's wrong. The error has to do with the files on the disk, not the disk itself...which leaves me puzzled why you're (apparently) getting the error when just looking (not opening) the contents of the drive. mrnn
  7. So you can't even see the file names in Windows Explorer? Do you see even see the floppy drive? mrnn
  8. I'd definitely keep an eye out for used fleet sales. My employer just had one a couple months ago and I remember seeing a couple of these on the list. Granted, you're bound to end up with high mileage vehicles going this route but probably pretty cheap, too. mrnn
  9. I thought DNA tests were required for paternity when it comes to child support? Unless he signed the birth certificate? Surely they didn't just take her at her word 13 years ago. I've heard of essentially "common law" paternity where the man has essentially served the role of father for years, parents divorce, and he's on the hook for child support. I've never heard of it in a case like this where the father has been absent. mrnn
  10. What is the file extension of the pictures? picture.xxx mrnn
  11. Sounds like we're playing for half-dollars next round of small ball. mrnn
  12. Aren't Jonquils white flowers. Coincidence? Hmmmmmmmmm. I kid, I kid. mrnn
  13. This thread should be closed, imo. Waaayyy too many tempers flaring from folks who I know to be good people. Last few days have been ugly...maybe time to step away from the keyboards for a couple days and chill the TRUCK out. mrnn
  14. I'll never look at my daughter's Valentine's Day class roster the same again....thanks for that. But seriously, when Patti mentioned her situation with the GPS coordinates and such, the first thing that crossed my mind was that having her name and address on a list made perfect sense considering her proximity to the airport the county is trying to build. As far as the names that were given background checks, has that list been made public? If not, it's rather speculative to assume who had background checks and why those checks were initiated, not to mention tying them to David Austin wh
  15. It was a good show. TJB has some pipes and the song was funny. While I did think the whole "list" section of the show was pretty funny, I'm not sure how Pubby sat idly by while you busted out all those books in a conversation about David Austin. If serious, that was a little over the top, imo. Perhaps that was the satire and it was just lost on me. You guys do a great job and I enjoy watching! mrnn
  16. Thank you....and my thoughts are with you and your cousin. Some folks are lucky enough to not end up with an aggressive "strain" of MS...let's hope your cousin in one of them. I hope you can eventually get the treatment you need for your fibromyalgia. mrnn
  17. MsGaStorm's cousin is a perfect example of what you're talking about, Jenilyn. TJB or Postman may have more input on this, but MS is more painful as the disease really starts to take hold. Once you're a paraplegic, or quadriplegic (which is what I assume the state means by "end stages") your brain is so riddled with lesions that the pain is actually lessened.....your nerves are essentially dead and you're left with paralysis. The spasms and spasticity, some of the most painful symptoms of MS, become permanent but you can no longer feel it. Point being, if marijuana is beneficial
  18. This whole thing truly depends on whether or not he was coming at the officers. The shots in the side windows, nor the young lady in the story, show that the vehicle was headed toward the officers. On the other hand, there may be other witnesses who corroborate what the cops are saying. I think the thing that often gets overlooked in these cases is that there are very few crimes and actions that are worthy of instant justice being passed down by police in the form of a bullet in the head. The guy was stealing a car. Not punishable by death. The guy was avoiding an officer. Not punis
  19. In DC, there are now bipartisan bills submitted in both the House and Senate that aims to reclassify marijuana as a Class II drug and open up the floodgates on research (class I, current classification, has no medical use...class II signifies that the drug can serve medical purposes). The bills are both meant to make peace with those states who have completely legalized, remove obstacles for doctors and suppliers in states who have legalized for medicinal use, and will, presumably, make it much easier for states, like GA, to move full-speed ahead toward full medicinal legalization as the stat
  20. And it wasn't just the apostrophes....this whole thing reads like a 7th grader wrote it...spelling, punctuation, sentence structure. I hate to be "that guy" but, jeez, this is a state representative corresponding with the public. As far as her opinion, she hasn't had a unique thought since she started campaigning. She's a parrot of leadership and throws in some buzzwords for good measure. Nonetheless, she's a republican with party backing (aka money) which means we'll get to enjoy her making a fool of us for years to come. mrnn
  21. If you have any 38R blazers, I'll take them. I don't need any suits but will always take a free blazer or sport coat. mrnn
  22. I'm sure that that was mentioned by a few dems who were interviewed....and they would have a point...thus my use of "also" in my statement. When you guys think that dems are for every tax increase under the sun, you aren't really paying attention. Progressive thought, first and foremost, is based on the premises of fairness and benefit to society as a whole, not just 1% of the population. They also realize and are comfortable with who they are...they don't have to bust out diatribes about trickle down economics, protecting the wealthy and "job creators", etc. to make themselves feel more im
  23. The ignore feature is pretty awesome. mrnn BTW, democrats also voted against this because it's one more form of regressive taxation aimed at the lower and middle classes. Lap it up, conservatives...this is what you ask for in every election. Someday you guys will realize that you aren't bringing home $750k+/yr and therefore these "conservatives" give not one damn about you. mrnn
  24. This show got a lot of press today due to his arrest and that little snippet of the hot mic. I couldn't believe all the positive things folks were saying about it and I'd never even heard of it. Definitely going to check it out one way or another (don't have HBO). mrnn
  25. Thanks y'all. I spoke with Jenilyn's husband and he's going to drop by and take a look....which means my wife will be happy, which means I'll be happy, which means I owe Jenilyn and her husband big time! Thanks! mrnn
