  1. Prayers and Condolences to you and your family. He was way too young.
  2. AHHHH a indoor event, just when it's getting uncomfortably warm. I will probably stop by after I visit a few yard sales this morning.
  3. Paleeze, no matter who is in office this happens at the same time every year to lull stupid Americans in to booking a vacation a month or 2 from now and paying for it before the gas goes up again. It will be 4.00 a gallon by mid June. PPPFFTT
  4. I don't understand why he appealed it. I saw it as a plea bargain, take this or face a jury, the jury being the school board and they knew exactly what they would decide if he faced them. They could have done the process with every kid and decided the exact same thing. It was their job to hand down a punishment that fit the crime and they did that. Maybe next time they will stay out of it and let the criminal justice system handle it. As was their right.
  5. I am wondering what I missed along the way during all this. By all rights everyone of these kids could have faced felony charges. The community did not want that. The community did however want them to receive reasonable punishment. I had said that if reasonable punishment had been handed down then parents would really have no reason to fight back to save their child's future. Did I miss were any of the punishment for any of them was unreasonable and there was a need to fight that to save your child's future? I don't see this as what is strictly the law, because strictly they
  6. Thanks, I don't usually listen to his show but this interest me.
  7. Howard is always one of the more entertaining politicians to have the pleasure of listening to during a luncheon, right up there with Gary Gulledge. I ask him his opinion on the regional Tsplost during the question and answer session towards the end of the meeting. He went on the record as being in favor of it.
  8. Hiram is doing something similar to rolling thunder with safety checks and roadblocks tonight. Buckle up and have your documents in order if you are headed that way tonight.
  9. The budget is available for viewing through the county website. How you look at the budget and what you think is waste or is going to be subjective according to what you believe is governments function. I have been viewing our labor stats available on line, even with many cuts the Gov is still the largest single employer in the county, this has been historically true as long as I have lived here. If you think of governments primary role is to service the county residents then you are not going to like payments on bonds that are an effort to increase infrastructure towards private sect
  10. Good morning !!! It is a beautiful day!
  11. We don't move discussions about local politics and political races to the political forums. The run down Pubby gave you is public knowledge, he just gave you the long version. You can go to the county website and look up past budgets, you can link the pages on here for discussion, it's all public record anyone can access and ask questions about. Print it, make an appointment and ask away.
  12. I am glad the majority of you us it. I forget sometimes that people come and go on the site. We changed to the new board and changed some buttons, so some may not know that that is actually the refresh button. All sites are different and we wanted it to be hard to miss, people also don't like clicking if they are not sure what will happen, so this is a reminder to guest and a FYI for some newer members. Those of us that have been here for a long time take for granted how everything works.
  13. The recent topics button Refreshes all the recent topics in all the visible forums. If you are clicking in and out of single forums you are missing all the fun. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
  14. How would you know if it did or didn't? I know I am not familiar with all the industries that are used to make movies. We have had a handful of movies made here and I am sure a lot of stuff has been brought in. With one production after another being made at the studio I am sure that it will be profitable to locate some of the support businesses close to the studio. I see hotels, the airport, equipment rental places seeing some immediate business. Our young people might get part time jobs in the summer as xtras. Any infusion of cash in the area is definitely a plus for our economy here.
  15. I understand that industries dependent on fuel like airlines, buses, trains, and trucking such as UPS prepay millions of gallons at a certain rate, I am not sure if their tax rate is frozen at the time they sign the contract, but I will look into it. As a family we use about double what you use, we both make a lot of our money from driving lots of miles a week, the state and feds are already hitting us pretty hard. another .10 a gallon is going to hit us hard and it will never come back off as the amount is insufficient to get the road needs of the state met within in 10 years. I see the
  16. Woot! woot! our first of many productions to be filmed at the Paulding studio!!
  17. I want to see our projects here done in the short time frame that is projected by this plan and see the tax go away. I am pretty sure we would see a pretty big tax increase on the fuel, especially due to lower consumption to get these road projects done. I also like the idea of the taxes collected in the region staying in the region, not dipped into and sent back. I buy gas to go to work so I can pay taxes on that money to be doled out to folks that don't or can't work, how bout a little sharing of that load for once.
  18. Actualy these are the number of people in the county that may enjoy their commute being shorter, or to even have a job within the county. Paulding County has one of Georgia’s highest percentages of residents that commute outside the county for work. Approximately 76% of employed residents leave the county for jobs throughout the Atlanta region. These individuals, many of them employed in manufacturing and production, represent a potential supply of labor to new and expanding businesses in Paulding County. This splost is certainly not for the benefit of a few in our region.
  19. This splost expires if the dollar goal amount for the projects is reached before the 10 year expiration.
  20. I know good deal when I see one. Revenue from fuel tax is down, we are facing a tax increase on fuel. Locally we have no control over how much we get back and how we can spend it. Raising the fuel tax as someone has suggested is just more money for the feds and less for us, we shouldn't have to give it up to the feds and this way we don't have to give them a penny more than we already are. I see it as a vote for independence on top of everything else it will do. I get confused about all the folks that want to give states more control, then rejecting it when it happens. People don't want t
  21. I understand Johnny she had some painful health problems lately. Let me know if you need anything.
  22. We are region one and this is the projected revenue foe each region over 10 years. 75% percent of this has to be spent on the listed projects. The 25% left is supposed to be for maintenance of existing roads. This is why I said you vote for it based on your region and your approval or disapproval of the projects listed for you. REGION 1: $1.487 Billion revenue projection REGION 2: $1.259 Billion revenue projection REGION 3: $8.468 Billion revenue projection REGION 4: $947 Million revenue projection REGION 5: $987 Million re
  23. We are not lumped in with Cobb, based on the failure of those things it is pretty much understood that the people beyond the metro area would vote no on anything that gave more tax money to them. We get the tax money to improve the roads in our region, if it doesn't pass there they don't see a penny of the money it is ours period. As far as I know our very conservative, republican leaders came up with this idea and it is truly in line with what I hear conservatives wanting. First it is a fair tax, secondly we have local control over the money, we know exactly how it will be spent and l
