Really? You know exactly what you are funding? While the ESPLOST is not a bad idea, don't give it more credit than it's due: From the BOE SPLOST Page: Capital projects are subject to change based on the needs of the school district and fluctuations in the projections – considering that debt service is the first priority of the program. The school district, in collaboration with EducationPlanners, LLC, has identified capital needs that could be funded via the program, and ranked their order of focus. "Could" be funded, not will be funded. The wording on the ballot is so loo

Stealth School SPLOST Tax Extension on the Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Sorry Kim, I've been a supporter of you, but I find it hard to believe that is the only reason for the early vote on the extension with the bond option on there. Had the BOE truly just wanted to get the SPLOST authorized so they could plan on the income, the bond would not have been on the resolution. (And I would have supported it in a heartbeat) With a bond option that will spend the tax money on interest instead of the schools for 2+ years, I just can't do it. -
I thought that Paulding.gov had a page with results that last few elections. Can't seem to find it this time.

Stealth School SPLOST Tax Extension on the Ballot?

No they will leave office with nice pensions and move to Florida and leave it for our children to have to pay when the board takes out a 30 year bond for buildings that will need major work within 5 years. (Since most of this money is going to North and it's only be open 5 years) -
Stealth School SPLOST Tax Extension on the Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Again, I'm not against the SPLOST, I voted for the last extension.... when they put it on the ballot not long before the old one expired. I'm against borrowing from the kids future to avoid having to make choices of who's construction company will get the contracts this year. If this SPLOST extension didn't have the bond rider on it, but said pay as received, I'd been all for it. They would have their 10 year income plan as Nick mentioned above. But no, they have the borrow and lose it plan instead. Sigh. It is obvious that we need educators on the Board of Education, but they -
Stealth School SPLOST Tax Extension on the Ballot?

Give me a break. That's fine if you already have the money. If you are borrowing money then you are paying interest on that money and I imagine that will be at a much higher rate than inflation. So you end up losing money in the end. -
Stealth School SPLOST Tax Extension on the Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Note I'm happy the ballot says we'll have the portion of our property taxes for the 200 million bond of 2007/2008 paid for 5 more years. However, it's hard to justify this based on 5 year and 10 year plans when the board plans on spending the extra money 6 years before it actually comes in via the new bond. Getting the bonds now means a higher percentage of the our tax money will go to the bank providing those bonds than would if they waited until the funding was available. Tax money used to pay interest does our children no good, it only helps the banks. (And those who own said bank -
Planes or Helicopters? I live near Burnt Hickory and we have low flying helicopters come over quite a bit, usually a couple or three at a time and they seem to be flying at the minimum legal height and running at close to full power. They will rock and roll the house.

Again, looking at my sample ballot for tomorrow, the race for Judge Osgorne's seat has no one in it on either the Republican or Democratic Ballot. Did his and his daughter's scam cost us the chance to vote for our judge? Who will appoint someone to that seat? Can someone who early voted tell me if there was someone on the real ballot?
-
OK, I print my sample ballot off of the SOS web site tonight and find there is an Educational SPLOST Vote on the ballot. Is this a mistake on the ballot? I thought we extended this thing for 5 years just 3 years or so ago. Have the proceeds been so good that the SPLOST is at risk of ending early? Or is this a case of "Put it to vote early and often". Interesting it has no dates on it, just that it extends the SPLOST "20 quarters" (Why not just say 5 years?) By my estimation that should take it out to 2021 or so. Also have to ask why ask for an extension now in the least attend

Ultimately, I hope Delta's lawyers can tie this up in court for about 50 years. We need to elect commissioners who will vote to de-fund anything associated with this facility. I'd cut off the water, power and even bulldoze the runway if it would keep 737 jets from landing in Paulding County. From everything I've read, you'd pretty much have to bulldoze it and start over for 737s to land on it. The runway, while well constructed, is not constructed for the wheel loading a 717, 737, or 757 would have. The whole 737 thing appears to be fear mongering to me.

COMMON CORE: WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT REALLY TRYING TO DO?

Teachers have been padding grades for long before HOPE. Even when I was in high school they were starting to pass kids just to get them out of the system. -

For real. Just 'cause it's new doesn't mean it's better and just because somethings old doesn't mean it doesn't work. -
Cool! Somebody email TBAR and let him know, he'll appreciate it! (mainly knowing he should stay out of the county on that date!!) Really does sound like it would be fun to take school kids to.

This topic reminds of this... -
We took our church youth to a game a couple of years ago. Even the cheap seats are not bad and it was a fun time.

Yea, my dad actually ran for Cobb County commission many, many years ago. We learned then that honesty with the electorate had no place in winning elections. (The GOP favorite who said lower taxes with more services won heavily) As I mentioned in the other post, we the sheeple train our politicians to lie to us and we're darn good at it.
-
Well, the flyer I got today is more reasonable. It states that "We achieved other important goals" and then lists many of the good achievements of the commission. Like I said, I'll end up voting for Barnett because I was happy to see the commission deal with recession by working on the budget rather than just raising the millage rate to keep the income the same as values fell. That is important to me and I see it as a sign of a pretty fiscally conservative board of commissioners with who we have now. On the other hand I just don't trust Tony Crowe. Too many flyers coming from other th

Ah, thank you. I found the full quote: As I suspected, an unsubstantiated statement that mystery funding will suddenly show up for the school system from commercial service. In any case, if it was going to be a massive income producer for the school system, why would a school board candidate be against it? if it isn't going to be a massive income producer for the school system, why mention it? It makes no sense and I for one am tired of people with no sense being elected to the school board and other government offices. IMO, of all the issues facing our school system, th -
In the one I have, it states "David Barnett never voted for Airport Commercialization! David Barnett never endorsed the Airport! David Barnett does not sit on either the Airport Authority or IBA that voted to commercialize our airport."

I had loved Blazing Saddles for years but was really surprised when I listened to the the Director's comments on the 20th Anniversary DVD and learned that Richard Pryor was one of the big writers of the screenplay. Explained a lot!!!

Looks like it. I just got his flyer today, looks like he's taking personal credit for not only everything good that has happened in the county, but the stuff still to come. The list from the flyer: Seven Hill Blvd connector New Hospital Burnt Hickory Park Low Taxes since 2008 Veterans Park 100 Jobs with Interroll New Baseball Tournaments New Crossroads Library New State Patrol post West Hiram parkway 53 million for Richland Creek Reservoir 'Bout the only thing he doesn't take credit for is the Airport. Wonder why? Anyway, I may end up voting for him rather than C
