Groups lobby against English-only driver's license test
NewsJunky replied to MillCreek's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I will repeat it once more with one additional word: They don't have to drive here if they can't understand the signs or be able to read the drivers manuals and tests in English. It is not required that they get in a car and take to the roads. If they have an accident ignorance of the law will be no excuse. It should not be required of the taxpayer to provide those materials in any language other than English. -
Wow! Amazing what trouble a little "habit" can get us into! I completely understand this guy's predicament. I had that habit for a long time. What he needs to understand is that some habits can be dangerous and so can the wrong words in that environment.

I was responding to Pubby's assertion that we should treat everyone who comes to our shores as guests. I don't think there is a law that states what you are asking about. I do believe that we should have a law stating that English is the official language of the USA. They don't have to drive here if they can't understand the signs or be able to read the drivers manuals and tests. It is not required that they get in a car and take to the roads. -

My guests are those I have invited into my home. I don't consider those who might break in to be my guests. They would be considered criminals. Guests in my home also respect the rules of my house or they are quickly shown the way out. -

Bet he can read the drivers test in English and good for him. I think we are becoming a divided nation. The fact that we have so many immigrants who REFUSE to learn English is a major factor in my opinion. We can't afford to keep catering to them in this economy. It costs a lot of money to print things in so many languages. They need to assimilate or leave. That is part of what has kept us united and given immigrants the tools to succeed in America. Our ancestors knew this and demanded it of themselves and their children. -

I'm OK with this one. They need to help make our streets safer. -

All immigrants legal and illegal should learn to speak and read English. I am finding more and more that jobs that used to go to English speaking citizens are now going to folks who speak Spanish also. Why should folks in Paulding County Georgia need to speak Spanish to work in a bank or for the government or anywhere else for that matter. I will give you one guess. I voted NO. -
I want to know if there is one too. Course he may not invite me!

If it is Motorcity Madman, that is a picture of the Doctor from the series Fringe. I like that character and the series.

Well tell her we miss her.

I have missed her too! Her sense of humor is wonderful. I have missed some others lately too.

Just found that I can't make it this week.

Where the old City Cafe was near the old Courthouse I think. Friday would work for me.

Shawna said something about having lunch at the new Cajun place sometime soon. She said it was good.

I just heard that a Mom lost her Son and two Grandsons in this tragedy. This is a bad one and I feel so sad for these families. There are 25 confirmed dead.
-
Latest report says there were 20 injured, 7 killed, and 19 missing.
-
We need to pray for these men and their families. May they be found and rescued soon. http://abcnews.go.co...ory?id=10292925

Thanks! It played perfectly. After watching Mayor Rollins all I can say is she lived up to my expectations of her. I wish I could vote for her in the next election but since I don't live in Hiram that won't be possible. What a strong honorable lady!
-
I thought I caught part of her statement on the P.com fastread page. I could not get it to play all the way through though. I was sorry to hear about this whole thing. I think she has done a good job for Hiram. Course I don't live there.

I knew what you meant. It is a shame that something like this happens. We seem to care for prisoners very well. In this economy it makes you wonder why they would want to get out. I can guarantee that they would not want to stay in Joe's jail.
-
You mean they might have a problem with inmates (the bad guys) having to work to get privileges? I love Joe. He is one fine Lawman!!! I think I read that bad guys avoid his county because they don't want to be put in jail there. The Obama Administration tries to cause him trouble in any way they can. There should be more lawmen with his guts and initiative.

Noble thoughts, Solo.

NAACP Files Suit Against the State of Georgia
NewsJunky replied to NewsJunky's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Is that enough reason for them to keep the name or to sue because they want more money? Are the schools good enough to be supported by the State and do they meet the requirements to be supported with public funds. Just because they started as minority schools does not seem to be enough reason to me. Why is the NAACP filing the suit if they are no longer black colleges? -

I thought the suit was being brought by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). -

You are right but this complaint is going to cost the taxpayers to defend. Either the state gives the schools more money or they have to defend themselves in court. I just wondered how other folks viewed the action.
