County Woes, Candidates, & Citizens Responsibilities
NewsJunky replied to mevans_70's topic in Paulding County NEWS
It is not going to cost the BOE candidates anything except the qualifying fee. No opposition. I think what JMT is speaking of is the time off from work to go and serve. I think the Legislature is in session for at least 47 days. Even school board requires a lot of meetings. It is the time away from work that some can't afford. -
Sounds like we need a volunteer sign up sheet. I think I saw David Austin and others out cutting the road sides when the money got short.

Glad you are Okay and will keep your co-workers in our thoughts and prayers. I was amazed at how much damage a little water could do. I feel for those folks who had more than a little in their homes.

I heard the water in Sweetwater Creek is rising. I have not been out to look yet. I am almost afraid to. A tree fell at Whitlock Ave. (Cobb) yesterday and took out some power lines. They said it was like a domino effect. When the first one fell it took some others. http://mdjonline.com/view/full_story/7278828/article-Downed-tree-leaves-Marietta-in-the-dark?instance=home_news_1st_right North Marietta Parkway was closed by Marietta police from Powder Springs Street to Polk Street. Whitlock Avenue was closed from the Marietta Square to McDonald Street. The closures were due to at least

It is a real shame Mike. It just lets us know once again how fair and honest you are. It grates on your sense of fair play.

Well it looks like we are still building. Can't the funds in the Bond, and the SPLOST, that have not been used, be turned back over to reduce the amount of money the county will owe? If we have less debt to pay on wouldn't it give us more to put somewhere else. Like to keep teachers. Just asking cause I don't know how that works. I do plan to find out though.

I agree with you. Conserving in the good times makes the problems smaller in the bad times. We spent too much and I sure wish we could do it over. Hind sight is always 20/20.

I think I read that there was a shut off valve that did not work and some of the cement work did not hold. You would think that they would check and double check those things. What a tragedy.

We only voted 3 new ones in during the last election. The others were up for re-election this time and none of them had a challenger. One chose to step down and someone qualified for that seat.
-
Me too, wonder if it is the same two?

This is bad!! I guess we will see how much Mother Nature can repair herself and how quickly. I guess we need to cancel that Florida vacation.
-
I guess you didn't read the posts about no one signing up to run against them.
-
Very good point! But we certainly need to keep trying to get the right people into those positions.

Please do. Paulding has never had the budget crunch they are dealing with now. Solutions come from ideas.

Have you sent your ideas to the Administration? If not would you send this to me in a pm with your name on it, if you choose to include it, and I will send it to them. I am sure they would like to explore any ideas that might open new ways to save jobs and still provide the best education for the children of Paulding. I think all of you who have such great ideas should send them to the Administration.

That is the way I see it too. I have not heard any discussion of the proposal by Learning Bridge to take over the ASP program from the Public school system. I could see that tying into the parents needing more day care if the system went to a 4 day week. Good idea for it to be privatized or not?

I am inclined to vote that way too. I really wanted to vote for it because I thought we needed to keep the teachers and buy materials for the classrooms. As I understand it the SPLOST does nothing to help fund those things. It goes for building and things related to building.

I think I know which one that is and you should run for it. -

You are right of course. I still find it amazing that all these folks (BOE) had to do was show up, pay a qualifying fee, and they walk into the office. There is something wrong with that picture. -

I felt the same way a few years ago when I started researching the candidates and getting out to meet them. I am still shocked that more people do not step up to run for these offices. In my opinion we need the folks who feel called to do this for the good of the country or the state, or the county. We can do a lot of complaining about what they do once they are in office but if we aren't happy with their performance we need to get out and look for folks who will step up and try to do it better. We could even run ourselves as 'MEvans has suggested. I am still amazed at the lack of intere -
Paulding: The race is on for DA, State Senate and GA House

In case you missed the above post: NewsJunky Posted Today, 05:54 PM I have to admit I might have if the correct candidate had qualified. I would not for the ones who did. I hope that clears it up for you. -

One incumbent on the BOE has chosen not to run. You will have a new member in that slot.

That is pretty much what I have said too. You add a lot of those things together and the cost is not so small anymore.
