LPPT, thanks to you and Pubby for putting the info out here on all candidates who are running. I would recommend your site to any who wish to let folks know where they stand on the issues. I found out all I needed to know about the candidates in the special election we just had right here on P.com. It would be nice if everyone who can vote would research the candidates and know who they are before they go to the polls. I like the lively political discussions and have found them very informative. I look forward to the Primaries in July and the General in November. I will be right here try

Will pray for a speedy recovery!

I second that. I just want the true facts (nobody's agenda) put into these history books.

P.com went down then my net went down.

The articles I read said it was not clear which grades would be affected by the changes. Who knows?

Have to agree about the 4 runner. They don't have the problems that are being attributed to some other models. -
I think one of the things they did have was a grasp of fiscal responsibility. We should not be spending money we don't have and we should be cutting costs in preparation for the budget gap we will most likely see next year. I don't spend money I don't have and the BOE shouldn't either. If they do then they are not very good stewards of the county's money. If we can't afford extras don't put them in the budget period! This has been in the news for a few weeks. This is a local link to one news report. There are quite a few out there. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/texas-textbook-changes-stir-controversy-030607

We have always done that too but I still think there are some things that are crucial to the teaching of history in our schools. If it were up to some parents their kids would not know any history at all. Our early American History can inspire young kids and it should be taught. I have to agree with you about the lack of education concerning the internment of the Japanese during WWII. It was an ugly story and it is also one that should be remembered. When FDR is praised so highly it seems to be forgotten.

When they start leaving out the Founding Fathers, and how this nation came to be, then they have cut too deep. Kids need to know how hard it was to fight for freedom and about how the Constitution was written. They also need to know about Hitler and his attempt to exterminate the Jews and what horrible methods he used. There are events in our history and people in it that should never be forgotten. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If we don't make sure the kids learn these things how can we expect them to keep some of it from happening again?

Well this shortfall belongs to Georgia and these figures were just released. They are worse than projected. I really don't have any insight into what Ms. Cobb might say. I have not asked her that question. That is why I suggested that you ask it and just provided the information that she might have more insight into it than most. This was in the AJC today: Seth Harp said “ I just came from a budget meeting with the lieutenant governor. Two-point-four now. $2.4 billion shortfall….This is for fiscal 2011. http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2010/03/09/seth-harp-on-t

Kim Cobb might have an opinion on that because she used to drive a bus. Send her an email and let us know what she says. Folks who don't already know this might want to read this article. It has a bearing on how much the state sends to Paulding County and therefore how much we have to spend. http://www.gpb.org/n...arly-10-percent State Revenue Dips Nearly 10 Percent That's bad news for the state budget which is now $180 million short for the rest of the fiscal year. Lawmakers were hoping to see the state's economy improve this month. Georgia has now had negative revenue figure

I don't think the systems that are doing this are doing it because they want to. They have to cut costs! Where they cut them is the question. Every program they now have and every day they open the schools affects folks in some way. Every Parent in the system and every child in the system has their own concerns about where those cuts are made. If this thread has proven anything it has proven that. That is also true for the tax payers who have no children in the system. It says to me that you can't please everyone involved. I just hope they are able to keep as much as possible because t

Sorry if you are offended by my comments. I am not at all offended by yours because I know you believe the schools can't do without this program. I also know that we are in tough times and any politician who can not make tough choices should pack their bags and go home. None of the choices are good ones and the fact remains that the schools exist (or they are supposed to) to teach the kids not treat them medically. I hope that everyone employed by the system is able to keep their jobs but I am pretty sure that won't happen. Which folks go is going to be the question. Just don't ask folk

Maybe they could send all the kids who need nurses to one school. Are you in favor of paying more taxes to keep them? Hey, I wish this county was well off and had no money issues. I wish there were not so many unemployed folks too and that the system could keep every employee who does a good job. I bet somebody has to go and I would not want to choose which folks that will be.
-
I have no objection to you paying for all of that. Why don't you get some friends together and take your donations to the BOE? Just don't ask the folks who can't make ends meet at home to do it! The fact remains that there is a tremendous shortage in the budget and things have to be cut from it. Let's see what they come up with.

I just want to know when the public SCHOOLS were required to become medical facilities. I did not know the courts had made that ruling. When teachers are looking at shorter hours, kids don't have books, bus drivers may lose hours, lunch workers may lose hours, and we can't buy gas for the buses why would we try to keep medical personnel? I will say again don't ask taxpayers who are out of work or who are making one third of the income they used to make to pay for things the schools CAN cut. Voters tend to remember that when it is election time. The other positions you mentioned may need to

You mean students have more medical requirements than they had for all those years when schools did not have nurses? Just don't ask me to pay more taxes to keep them!
-
Me too! That is why all other options need to be exhausted first!
-
You know how I feel about NCLB. The unintended consequences far out weigh ANY benefits, It needs to go away.
-
They are in the schools because a tobacco settlement paid their salaries. That went away a year or two ago. The funds have to come from our Paulding budget now. I wonder how much that program costs? Maybe it isn't as much as we think. In a budget crunch like we have right now everything that can be cut should be cut. JMO

Do you feel that way about the nurses who are in the schools? I think the sports programs may actually make money. I do agree that no more stadiums, ball fields, or tennis courts should be built. Schools may need to share them.

I would think losing pay for a day per week would not be as bad as losing the job. I know that will probably happen with some administration jobs. Larger numbers per class and I am even wondering if the cap that we have on class size won't be raised. Make no mistake, the situation is going to get worse because people don't have jobs and the money is not going in to the Federal and State coffers. It is sad. Every job has families attached to it. At least the schools will stay open.

I think it is a better option than to increase taxes. Some folks are having trouble making ends meet already.
