I Told You Guys This Anti Obesity Add With Kids
NewsJunky replied to NewsJunky's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I thought about using only one d but decided I wanted to make it add. Yep, you can add to an existing problem and make it worse. You have a great sense of humor. Glad you caught that. -
The teacher went above and beyond what was required and she loved the kids. What a difference she made in so very many lives. Thanks MrsB I am glad you thought it was worth sharing.

A young man who was embarrassed to be seen checking a book out of the library stole it instead. He came back for more books by the same author. He returned the stolen book each time he came for another one. A teacher was watching and did a very wise thing. It cost her time and effort but she did it. He is now a Judge. I Told You Guys This Anti Obesity Add With Kids
NewsJunky replied to NewsJunky's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I guess my problem with the add was using the kids in it and with the idea that the perception may now be that even the adults who used to speak up for those kids have stopped. I agree that this is important. I just think it is being handled badly. -
It appears that some public health experts think the add encourages self-loathing in children who may have problems they’re powerless to stop. I think some of our p,com Moms had the same opinion when the add was discussed in a topic started by Dallas Red. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/jan/22/georgia-hospital-under-attack-anti-obesity-ads-fea/?local

And of course you just had to let the cats out of the bag!!!! -
No. Maybe that is WHY some make a big deal out of it.

Congratulations!

I discussed all of those things with my kids. I felt that if they were old enough to ask a question about it then I owed them an honest answer. I tried to answer them in an age appropriate way. I did not want them to get bad info from bad sources. I would not want to leave it to the schools either. I am not sure I approve of the way some systems teach it. In California there was quite a fight over this issue. I had no surprise grand children so I guess the info must have been good. Just gave myself a + accidently trying to see who agreed with me. LOL

5th graders need to know about contraception and STD's? What does that say about our society? I also noticed that the subject of bullying will be covered. I guess that translates to the gay/homosexual issue will be addressed. I am not sure which word is PC for that today? Sorry if I used the wrong one.

I am not sure teaching about some of the things proposed in this new guideline is a good thing for such young children. Any thoughts on this? Link: http://onlineathens.com/health/2012-01-16/sex-education-guidelines-generate-discussion

I heard today that this Bill is getting a rewite. It is still on track in the Senate though.

I don't have time to get into it right now. But I will say that I think it is a bad move and that I am against it. This guy has a pretty thorough break down of it from the perspective of an IT person. If I am not supposed to use a link to his site just take it down. I thought it was worth the read. http://www.upholdlib...stop-sopa-pipa/

'IF FRED GOT TWO BEATINGS PER DAY…' Homework Asks
NewsJunky replied to lowrider's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Sorry but among some religions here in the US it is legal. Sad but true. Anyway I won't beat this dead horse as my friend feelip would say. Back to the topic and I am done with this off topic discussion. Oh, and you are insulting as you are very often. I should know better than to reply to anything you say. -
Teachers have a right to challenge any accusation. They usually do not choose to act on it because of the cost and maybe the publicity for the school. Who knows, but they do have recourse.

I hear that some kids have gotten in trouble for doing it at school. What a shame!
