  1. You are correct. And to the OP's question: This last year, I had a pre-k kid. We did both: private and lottery-funded. My take? If you choose your lottery-funded pre-k carefully, you have no reason to pay $150 or so a week for a private program. Our pre-k kid went to a great school, and there was nothing in the lottery-funded program that he didn't get from the private pre-k at the same school. I visited every program in our area before I chose though, so that's why I say...do your homework. Meet the teachers, tour the schools, and find what you are comfortable with. If they have a
  2. I didn't vote, because I don't see it as an either/or thing. So I can't see the results.
  3. You must have been right in front or right behind us, because we saw the same thing...and the deputy trying to get the long gun quickly from his trunk. I'm also curious what it was...there were tons of LE there.
  4. I think my feelings about it are much less black/white than what's already been expressed here. On a philosophical level, I'm all for it. But then I think...what if I were a juror on a capital case, and I had to decide life or death? It's easy to distance yourself from any death when you don't have to take an immediate part in it. But I have thought about it a little further...placing myself mentally on a jury that has to make that decision about another's life. I think I agree with some here, in a case with CLEAR EVIDENCE of child rape/murder...SNUFF THE A-HOLE. There is no rehab
  5. DUDE....seriously? We can celebrate the birth of a "future king" without embracing kingdom. It's not glorifying kingdom to celebrate the pomp & circumstance the Brittish royals are subject to. We are not Brittish subjects by the choices of our forefathers, and for those choices we celebrate every July 4th. I don't think anyone here is confused, except maybe YOU, who seems to have a giant-sized, England-shaped cobb lodged firmly up your netherbits.
  6. I couldn't care less about the Brittish Royals, but I am charmed by their insistence of being as "real" as they are allowed to be about their courtship, their marriage, and now the birth of their first child. I'm happy for them like I would be for my next door neighbors, and no more or less. I'm happy for them that they are making all of these milestones their own in spite of all the pomp and circumstance. For that if nothing else, we can admire them. I don't doubt that there are many, many times they resent their social prominence and media focus. They seem to be a young couple in love an
  7. In your initial post, you asked why specifically. Was that rhetorical, or did you not anticipate responses to that question?
  8. Not in any way relevant to this case. I suggest you re=Google.LOL. Never imagined I would ever type that.
  9. And further, Pubby, OMG let me add that I can hardly believe what an ignorant azz you are and how little you actually know about people who don't share your point of view. OMG You are such an ignorant azz. YOU SAID: "The plain fact is there were no witnesses to the moment presented at trial. The video statements of GZ were taken during statements to the police. As stated in the previous post, he had no incentive to say anything other than what he said. He declined to go on the stand and explain it to the court and jury directly." Everything he said, from right after the
  10. Defense of the "stand your ground" law was never a factor in this case because, rightfully so, the defense attorneys deduced that invoking it was unnecessary. The jury never debated "stand your ground." Seriously, you're going to make this argument as if you're some kind of great authority on the law when you don't even know the basic facts of the case? SMDH
  11. First of all the poster was...uhmmm...mistaken. SW said he wouldn't play in FL until the "stand your ground" law was overturned there (or any state with a stand your ground law). Quite a different thing than the verdict. Meanwhile in other news...MLK III tells people gathered for the NAACP conference they should boycott orange juice. While speaking at the conference. Being held in ORLANDO. Yeah. Boycott orange juice, but rent expensive hotels, eat at expensive restaurants, pay $$$$ for the convention center, and generally give a big old boost to the local economy. But don't dri
  12. I keep wondering why the prosecution in the George Zimmerman murder trial didn't call you to the stand to testify.
  13. See? This is what I meant above. It doesn't ever need to devolve into an ugly, personal attack. It too often does here on pcom, and I have been guilty myself. But I don't carry around a grudge after a heated debate. Ain't nobody got time for dat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh7UgAprdpM
  14. We had a HUGE one in the town where I grew up (it's still there). International Paper in Nacogdoches, TX. It smelled AWFUL. One year we had a HUGE fire at the paper plant. It was unbelievable. Everything inside was highly combustible, and when it lit up, it went BIG.
  15. I know for a lot of people it makes more sense, both financially and personally, to pursue a skilled trade rather than a four-year degree. People with a four-year degree are competing in the same market with folks who have little training and experience, but if you learn a trade, you have a marketable skill. So I wanted to post this link to local resources for anyone who was looking for training or retraining: Vocational Training Resources If you find a fit that works for you, I wish you the best!!
  16. Thanks...but uhhm...pretty much the same thing?
  17. Meh. I don't hold grudges. And I enjoy debate. I can do without the insults, but folks tend to be a lot more civil face-to-face than they are behind their keyboard. Me included, though really, I am who I am all the time. But sometimes I type something and think, "Should I hit the POST key?" And sometimes I say "YES! DO IT!" And sometimes I say, "NO. That would be a bad idea." And I'm sure we all do that. Well, most of us. Some of us just post whatever crap crawls off our fingertips and onto the Internet without a thought. Whatever. There's room enough for all of us if
  18. ROFL!! I know exactly who I am. I'm a 50 year old grandmother who has a family she loves and who loves her, who goes to work every day and loves the job she worked to get, and who gets on pcom sometimes in the evening for light entertainment. Any "self-importance" i have, I derive from that and nothing else. And I know an azz when I see one. You are like a feather duster with wire bristles. You can't take any comment you don't agree with, and you scratch at anyone who doesn't agree with you. You have the grace of a gorilla. And you call ME self-important? Have a ni
  19. You started the nastiness in that thread, and yet now you're whining that it got nasty? Seriously. I hadn't read that thread until just now...and yes, there was an abundance of ugliness in it...but YOU initiated it, and you, LPPT, and TJB continued to stoke the fire YOU started. Serious double standard going on around here. If you want to have a civil discussion, you must yourself be civil. Now I'm sure this will be answered with some insulting ugliness. Have at it. I said what I had to say. But good luck getting mods to censor folks when YOU are the one who initiated the u
  20. Why yes, I'm serious...that's who I had in mind!
  21. Ignorant people masquerading as intellectuals.
  22. My oldest son was in TIP and we found it to be an excellent program. I don't know the answer to your other questions, as my son was invited based on test scores and academic performance.
