But I had NO CLUE that I was a joint account holder with him. I didn't authorize anyone to open a card in my name. So it was a surprise to me when they came knocking on my door. And we aren't talking a small amount either. No I wasn't paying and found a way to fight it.
-
Actually there are many reasons people fight it. I pay my bills but unfortunately had an EX who opened a credit card in both our names without me knowing. They couldn't find him and he had no job but they found me and I was the one stuck with it. So yeah stuff happens and since I couldn't prove I didn't know about it, I researched what to do when I was served with papers and I happened to win.

Most agencies won't show up. They are banking on you not coming and them winning by default. Most people don't know what to do and just don't do anything.
-
I am almost sure it is from the last payment made. Should you admit to the debt and/or make a payment (even $.01) then the SOL starts all over again. I have been through it many many years ago and went to an attorney for advice and that is what I was told. The collection agencies will hound you in the months right before the SOL is to run out to see if they can get you "commit" to something. ETA- I believe it also depends on how the contract was written. It can go off of when the last payment was made or the date the original creditor sent a demand letter for payment in full. But I do
-
Not if the statue of limitations has run out. If you can prove it has it will be dismissed. And on credit cards I believe it is 6 years. So if the last payment you made was 6 1/2 years ago and they take you to court, you can still win..plain and simple. Now if the SOL has run out and they take you to court and you don't show, they will win no matter what..plain and simple. ETA- I believe it is 4 years on a credit card. Credit cards are open ended accounts but some creditors will say they are a written contract where that SOL is 6 years.
-
So why say if you go to court you WILL lose? Most creditors or collection agencies win simply by default because the person didn't bother answering the suit against them. But you can win especially if the debt is old and has been sold off.
-
Yep same here. If the account was "sold" to a collection agency and they are the ones who bring suit against you, 99.9% of the time they don't have the correct paperwork, such as the contract you signed with the original creditor. They only need it if you ask for it. If they can produce it then you are out of luck. It is 100% worth going to court and asking for it. If you don't show up they win automatically.
-
I personally have gone to court and it was dropped...so yeah I will bet.

Who watched the Casey Anothony thing on Phil?

My opinion of them changed (for the better) after I watched the show. I had not planned to watch but kind of glad I did. -
That is not true at all.
-
Also- if you are served, GO to the court hearing! If it is just a collection agency ask them to show the original signed contract between you and whoever the original creditor was. Only ask that once you get to court. If they can't produce it (contract/agreement with your signature on it) they can't collect and it will be dismissed. Believe me, it works.

I have a red shouldered hawk that hangs outside my window at work.

The levels are not acceptable for drinking water and should not be acceptable for apple juice or any other drink for that matter. -

Gerber tested the highest!!! Drinking some here and there is NOT going to harm you. It is if you drink it excessively over a period of time. -

The lab I work for did the testing for this show. I couldn't wait to watch as I was shocked by the results. -
There are 4 now. One is in China and is called Ling Hang Zhe/Navigator)

I believe there are only 3 Goodyear blimps. One is stored in OH, one in CA and one in Pompano Beach, FL (which is where I grew up). I have no clue where they are made. My dad knows the guy who used to fly the one in Pompano Beach which is how we got to go several times. ETA- There are four now. There is one in China now.

I have ridden in the Goodyear blimp a few times. I hate flying but am glad my dad made me go! It was pretty awesome. I saw it today and it actually made me alittle homesick:(
-
It sounded pretty bad too. I always triple check when I go to make sure no one is flying down the road. I hope everyone is ok.
-
I thought I heard a crash but I have yet to hear sirens. Hope everyone is ok.

I have been doing mine. I am a 4th cousin (5x's removed) to General Custer. My great (times eight) grandfathers great, great, great, great, great grandson is General Custer.

I figured that was the reason as it was happening. I did see the accident scene and could not identify the kind of car involved but did see a dump truck was involved. I will keep the family in my prayers.

I had just gotten onto Dallas Highway from Barrett Pkwy when the police shut down the road. I took the same route as you and when I saw it I was shocked. It was the worst wreck I had ever seen before. There was an ambulance coming behind me on Dallas Highway with his lights going but then he just turned them off and waited with the rest of us for a good 10 minutes before finally going on the shoulder. He didn't have his lights on though. I am praying for all involved. That was the 5th accident on Dallas Highway today that I saw.

I am a nervous wreck. My son just left to go back to college in Kentucky. Looks like he will be driving in heavy rain the entire way

Almost certain he would have to be there since his name is on it.
