Where do you put the block of ice?

Well, here's another Veteran's Day story for you. In 2003, I was researching my Uncle James' service in the 8th AAF in WW2. This was right before my Mom died. I was trying to get some info for as they were very close as kids. I found a forum for the AAF and there was a post from a man in Belgium who had "adopted" my uncle's gravesite. From there I had contact with other people who gave me information about the B-17 crash and were very helpful. Yesterday, Veteran's Day.... I get an email (through the AAF forum) that a thrift shop owner in Maspeth NY had found an item belonging to m

I have never had an iPhone so I can't compare. My husband uses one for work. I have a Nokia 635 and I find it much easier to navigate than his phone though. As for Cortana....I love it! For someone who has a habit of forgetting things frequently (it's not because I'm getting older) , it's great. My daughter has one also and because of her MS has some cognitive issues finds it invaluable for everything from remembering things at work to reminding her to take her medication. It's location based, so you can ask her to remind you to pick up something on your way home and as soon as

Female Soldier Refuses To Go Home With Off Duty Cop; Gets Arrested
Bizmo replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Seriously. Growing up in NY with Irish immigrants for parents, I have a lot of cops and firemen in my extended family. Well, that and a lot of priests and nuns, but we won't go there. I am starting to get irritated with people who search out these videos and post them trying to make the point that there are bad cops out there. We get it. There are certainly disreputable people in all walks of life. I've run into my share. But I've also met and had dealings with some outstanding people in law enforcement and other civil service jobs. I am old enough to remember a time when cops were refe -

Advice on purchase of a new washer and dryer
Bizmo replied to marvinthemartian's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That's right. Kenmore is Sears brand name that they put on other appliance manufacturers product that is made for them. Believe it or not, I have come across Sears salesmen that do not know this. And General Electric is selling its appliance division to Electrolux, the parent company of Frigidaire. Pending trade commission approval. -
This is what I've always liked best about p.com and living here. People helping each other out just because.

Something good....no, great. My daughter had her first MRI since starting on her MS medication and it showed no new lesions or growth of any existing ones. And today our house is getting painted. Nothing like a fresh coat of paint to make everything look new and clean. And the Braves aren't in last place. Yet. Life is good. Doggone good.

If you want to change the World, make your bed.

I just watched this on the evening news and went online to watch the entire speech. Very inspiring speech from a very good man. Sometimes changing the world really does start with making your bed. -
Post 2 candidate rails against 'good old boys' in Paulding Politics
Bizmo replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
Well I don't recall saying anything about her attire. Nothing at all. (Although now that YOU mention it; I did have a serious flashback to Corey Feldman in that Lost Boys movie.) I believe my point was that the "speech" or "talk" or whatever you want to call it greatly resembled a faltering comedy audition. IMHO of course. I rarely look at any of the political topics, especially the local ones. But this video on the front page caught my eye this morning. And I stand by my thoughts as far as wanting professionalism in an elected official. I'm sure that I am not the only citizen who woul -
I am in agreement on all points but I can't help wondering about parental responsibility in this case also. I believe that the company policy (from the website) is that minors are to be accompanied by a parent. Surely some sort of permission or consent from had to be signed by a parent or guardian as to what type of weapon the child was to be allowed to fire. Not to let the instructor off the hook here, but he was, after all, an employee. I believe that if it had been me, I would have quit that job before going along with a company policy of letting someone of that age fire such a weap

Post 2 candidate rails against 'good old boys' in Paulding Politics

Yikes.. That was just painful to watch. It looked a bit like an bad audition for a failing comedy club. Somehow I don't think that this is the answer to getting the "Good 'Ole Boys" system out of Paulding if that is the intended goal. No offense meant to Ms. Smith: but that was seriously awful. (as was the candidate introduction). Think professionalism, people. Paulding can't stay "backwoods" forever. I need to go back to my normal practice of never reading the local political news topics. Yikes. -
That's what the vet thinks. Anatolian shepherd - Great Pyrenees mix. I saw a few of his litter mates and they definitely had Pyrenees in them. He's a good dog. And yes, he's going to be a big one.

This is Freddie. Quite a change from the sick little 15 lb pup I adopted at the end of June. He's now 47 lbs at just under 5 months old. He's taking his afternoon siesta and does not want to be disturbed.

Yes, that's the site. I have never paid any membership fee and I can still see profile pictures and the yearbooks. Don't know what's up with that. And TP, there's just so many things wrong with that picture, I don't know where to begin.

Like many of you, when that class reunion site first came out I signed up for it. Then it tried to charge you for everything so most people don't bother with it. But every once in a while you still get an email from them. This morning just for the heck of it, I clicked on the email link and checked out one of the yearbooks and some of the profile pictures. Aside from the outdated hair and skinnier legs. I pretty much look the same now as I did in my sophomore pic. But the curly brown haired boy I once lusted after looks astonishingly like Wilfred Brimley...only older. Scary,

I have used Atlanta Stone Works before and was happy with them. They used to be in Acworth, but I believe they are now in Kennesaw. http://www.asw-granite.com/

Someone once told me that it is infinitely easier and more satisfying to "play" at being someone else when you don't like yourself much. I believe it to be true that the finest performers are often tortured souls in their personal lives. RIP Robin Williams. You gave the world all you had to give and for that we thank you.

How do you feel about the recent incident on the trail
Bizmo replied to 1novella's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Seriously? Asking how people feel about a recent local incident (albeit a horrific one) is ridiculous? The MOST ridiculous thing you've ever read on p.com? So, if you feel that it is such a ridiculous question....why did you answer it? -
How do you feel about the recent incident on the trail
Bizmo replied to 1novella's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Armed or unarmed, awareness is the first line of defense. I have never walked the Trail; there are places closer to home where I walk. From everything I have seen and heard the Silver Comet trail is way too isolated in places for someone to be alone on. That's not something that I would do. Maybe because I grew up in a more populated area of the country, but I tend to always be aware of my surroundings and other people. It always amazes me the number of people I see every day who are walking around chatting on their cellphones with or without ear buds, completely oblivious of what's g -
