  1. My house was broken into a few months ago, too and I know the feeling. There were a group of boys(young men)knocking on doors, asking directions. We werent at home and didnt have a barking dog at the time, so they pretty much got it easily through a window they broke with tools from OUR outdoor shed. I have become convinced through this that Neighborhood Watch prgrams(when they are done the right way)really do work and are the best way to ward off illegal activity before it gets to your home. We started one in our neighborhood and the interest in it was surprising. The police reminded
  2. Sounds sooooo good on a cold rainy day like today. That is one of mt all-time favorite cold weather meals. We are having huge mixed green salads(heavy on the arugula )with boiled eggs, all kinds of fresh veggies, feta and leftover baked italian chicken sliced on top. Easy, healthy and yummy.
  3. IDK if it's against Pcom rules for you to post in my thread the name or your link if you're not a Commerce Member(which you really should be...it's a deal and totally worth it!), but hopefully you can PM them to me. I'm all for small biz., especially locally. Since I still have some Christmas shopping to do, I'd love to buy from you guys as opposed to any big box or big, impersonal chain. I'm especially looking for vintage items and handmade things(jewelery, art, crochet pieces, pottery, etc). I love Etsy and Ebay but would like my money to go to people in my community first. So, if you're
  4. Thank you, GT. How old are their kids now and was it a surprise for them?
  5. I'm a wine drinker and somewhat of a wine collector. Every good wine drinker agrees(well, almost ALL)that you can spend $6 or $160 on a bottle and like the cheap one best. So, I wouldnt let the "not knowing" wine intimidate you. Wine drinkers love getting a bottle to add to their collection. If you know they are a serious wine lover, I'd get a red wine like a pinot noir or a merlot. If you're not sure, get a white wine like Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. These are lighter and sweeter than a red and I find that most people spend their first few years as a wine drinker drinking white before moving
  6. When I worked for a high end salon in Atlanta, I did have some benefits and in the salon and commission based biz, that is almost totally unheard of. We received a week paid vacation after our first year and 2 weeks after 2 years(our vacation pay was based on an average of our best 8 weeks of the year before). At my 8 year mark(I was there about 14 yrs total), they gave me 3 weeks that I could take or get paid for if I didnt choose to take it. We also received a percentage of our total sales as a bonus at teh end of each year which usually averaged about as much as 2 weeks average pay. They o
  7. All of these are great ideas, IMO. I received gifts from clients for almost 20 yrs and loved it. I especially enjoyed gift certificates/gift cards that provided a service that I could enjoy with my family. Most years I received a few movie and restaurant gift cards. Even if it was only $20-$25 to a higher end restaurant, it was a great gift.
  8. Congratulations to YOU, too! You are living what I feared most back when my son was a toddler. I just didnt think I had it in me to sanely have 2 in diapers, etc. And, I'm probably living YOUR worst fear...starting all over again when yours are grown LOL. I think we all pretty much know instinctively which way we should do it, although often we shock ourselves with what we're actually capable of. Wishing you a great pregnancy, delivery and a happy, healthy baby with an excited toddler. I do understand that, Blondie. I bought pregnancy tests when mine was a toddler and little boy like t
  9. I love your encouraging words, BWB. Thank you so much. I can imagine the older teaching the younger ALL sorts of things lol. My brother even did that to me(7 yrs older than me). he would put me up to things that our parents KNEW came directly from him and not from me LOL. Never anything horrible. He never wanted me to get into trouble but he loved making people giggle at me. You sound so much like my Mom. She always firmly believed that later in life kids keep you young. Thanks again .
  10. ChickenWorld? Didn't pay a focus group/ad company for that one, I hope.
  11. Sounds much nicer to me than Black HELL Firday. I stayed in and did some of favorite things....cook, organize things I had been wanting to get to, decorating for Christmas and just generally staying in my jammies all day .
  12. I agree that iceberg is nothing but some roughage and water. I know people like the crunch though so I mix it with every other green I can get. Iceberg has almost no nutritional value at all and other lettuces and greens do last much longer. And, only wash what you're going to eat. It will last longer that way.
  13. Thank you, Lady . I had to pray and ask forgiveness after I got the #$%^&% thing up before I decorated it. I did however have an "aha!" thankful, kick myself in the hinney moment. My ex husband was so overbearing and neurotic about anything and everything from a spot on the carpet, to the porch light being left on, to how tall the Christmas tree would be and what color lights it would have that year. He really sucked all the life and the fun out of Christmas for me and just made it a dreaded ball of stress that I couldnt wait to be over. I never wanted to feel that way. So, I sort of
  14. I wish. I MISS my Garden Ridge! . I actually enjoy sewing and since I'm not working right now(b/c I've been so sick/pregnant), it'll be something fun for me(lol....that's about he extent of my "fun" these days ...a sewing machine and an outing to the tiny, little fabric store here. ). You did give me some great ideas though...I've been planning it in my head all day... .
  15. I like having the bridesmaids choose their own dresses, especially if they're paying for them. If I were her, I would encourage all of you to use the same fabric. Not from the same bolt but the same fabric or fabric blend. Color looks completely different on different fabrics depending on the sheen and texture. You can use the exact same dye but given the differences in how it penetrates the fabric and how colorfast each fabric is, can vary enough to look like much different shades. It could VERY easily end up looking like you were all close to finding the same color but missed and this i
  16. Thank you, DCRED . I can imagine it was unheard of then. I was born at the very end of 1972 and Mom always said how shocked people were when they found out she was expecting. They acted like she was 90 like Sarah and Abraham(who was 100) . I think having older parents has it benefits. Wow!!!! I'm starting to think it may stick with me til the end, too. It's not quite as dreadful as it was in the beginning but only b/c I've gotten as used to it as I guess anyone could get. Now a "good" day is to only throw up once . I shouldnt complain though b/c other than that and a few small issues
  17. What Thoughts said and when you cut iceberg with a metal knife or lettuce cutter(which I'm sure it what they do), it browns very fast. I always just tear my iceberg apart.
  18. Thanks! Yep, mine, too. I really want an old, aluminum silver tree. They are hard to find and $$$$. I feel ya. I have completely skipped and ignored Christmas for the last 3 years and I did miss having a tree and decorating but not until this year. I don't do all the outside lights and etc though. No way. I know I would have the neighbors talking when the strand on the very top, in the middle, all the way up there and in the very back, didnt' come on... .
  19. are you watching me seretly ?!?!?! lol...you are exactly right . I think that would look cute, too on the tree. I'm gonna go to the fabric store tomorrow and make one.
  20. One up and decorated and one to go. Went retro with it and love it. However... I realized 2 hours into this one that I was missing a huge piece and had to START ALL OVER. $%^%$#!!!!! I was listening to Christmas music and thought I SHOULD be listening to REM's "Losing My Religion" . Not quite finished. Needs the tree skirt and topper but turned out pretty cute and fun, I think. Will get a fresh tree with nothing to put together this week for a more traditional look.
  21. Absolutely agree. My heart actually skips a beat when I walk into a good thrift or consignment store like I was at Tiffany's . I love it and cannot stand the thought of having to buy everything at the mall. I literally go to the mall maybe once a year and that's only if I have no other choice. It's like torture and I hate it. Thanks again for your kind words. Me too! Oh. Wait....
  22. It'll definitely be on the list. But, oh crap, if he/she turns out to be ANYTHING like Ron Jr . Maybe I should rethink the name thing. Thank you, Pubby...
