Incoming chamber chairman not on board with the airport
Nice Green replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
What's ridiculous is demanding that these officials stop what they're doing to hold town hall meetings to explain their efforts. Are you going to ask for that over every issue they tackle? Opponents of these plans are filing requests to get information they want from the county—have they been denied anything? Who is ridiculing and laughing at you? County leaders? I don't see them posting on here. And if they were, how would that be worse than the anti-airport folks that are calling commissioners liars and insinuating that they or someone they're friends with are profiting off this proj -
Incoming chamber chairman not on board with the airport

Everything a government does costs taxpayers money. Do you want the people to vote on every decision that goes before the commissioners? Do you want to vote on every entry-level position in the government? Do you want a town hall meeting when the government is trying to decide what paper vendor to go with? Government employees who don't live in Paulding are still impacted by decisions they make. Their decisions could impact where they shop when they're off the clock, where they go for lunch, where they may go on the weekend, etc. You can't say for sure that their actions/decisions have no -

Why should a government limit itself to only hiring within its own county? Would you rule out a qualified person for any job if they didn't live in the same county? And as explained earlier, those Chamber board members likely have business interests in Paulding. They have as much right to speak out on things happening in the county as you do. Geography doesn't limit anyone's First Amendment rights. -

Let me just summarize opponents' two arguments as such: "This airport is going to fail and the taxpayers are going to be on the hook for it!" "This airport will be really successful and will turn Dallas into a city that dwarfs Atlanta!" So which is it, folks? None of you think there might be a happy medium out there, and this could be a good thing for Paulding County? -

Again, how is expanding the airport going to create crime and this "ghetto" you speak of? If there are already neighborhoods fairly close to the airport (which you're obviously so worried about), where would the county build this ghetto? -

How do you come up with this one? Are the crackheads and drug dealers going to fly into the airport? -
Yes, I'm sure the Chamber is comprised of all big businesses and no small companies or single-employee entities. You know who stands to get a cut? All the residents of Paulding—if this venture is successful—as will the business owners. I'm glad you think you know that no one wants this, but just by reading some of the posts on the site, I'd dare say you're wrong.

Do you stand on your roof each day to make sure none of the planes headed to Hartsfield are encroaching on your airspace? If the sight or sound of airplane going over your head during daytime hours bothers you, then you have problems. The FAA wouldn't clear 737s flying over your "houses and schools" if they couldn't take off or land safely. Some of you think these planes are going to be low enough to graze your houses. Do you find it disturbing that folks from Cobb and other neighboring counties have the audacity to plant their businesses, and therefore jobs, in Paulding? And

It wasn't voted on "at night" unless you think 7 a.m. is the "dead of night" like some folks seem to think. Yeah, let's have a chamber of commerce that's not interested in promoting commerce in their county. Let's have a chamber that doesn't support the potential for new business and industry to come to this county, because we think everything is fine and dandy in this county. And let's have a chamber that doesn't want to move us out of the 20th century and into the 21st.

I gave you a + to counteract the - someone gave you. How many of the naysayers are going to continue to spout the same arguments, some of them based on mistruths and misconstrued facts, over and over again in this thread?

County's cozy relationship with Silver Comet Partners exposed
Nice Green replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
"Several years ago" is not "today." The teens of yesterday can now vote, folks have moved into the county, and others have moved out or died. So unless you have some recent numbers to back you up, your argument is invalid. -

Why don't we have town hall meetings and referendums on everything the government does! That way, our city councils/county commissions/state reps can never put anything over on us! You elected the city councils and county commissioners to make the best decisions for the cities county, and they appointed members of the Airport Authority, and they made a decision. That's representative government, which some folks don't seem to grasp. If we had to hold town hall meetings and referendums on everything, our governments would be too slow to act. And do you think people will actually get off -

Just wanted to highlight the irony here. Maybe the opponents would have more credibility on their statements that the "citizens don't want this" if they actually had some facts to back them up. -
Since when did an apartment become "your home"? You don't own the property. Having lived in apartments, I wouldn't mind a ban on smoking, as I hated smelling my neighbors' smoke. That said, i do think the law overreaches as it takes away the right of the property owner to allow smoking in their units. Had I been on the council, I would've proposed an ordinance that would've allowed property owners to determine whether or not to allow smokers, but require those owners to certify whether or not buildings allow smokers or ban the practice, and be upfront about which units are which.

You all miss my point. It doesn't matter that it's dark outside. Seven in the morning is not the "dead of the night." If it was the "dead of the night," a lot of people wouldn't be awake and going to work (or already at work) at that hour. If the Airport Authority met at midnight, 2 a.m., some time like that, then you could call that the "dead of the night." But I don't know of any laws that make such a meeting time illegal as long if proper notice was given ahead of time. If proper, advance notice was given, there's nothing wrong with a 7 a.m. meeting time. The authority members have to s

Seven in the morning is not the "dark of night." Would you say the school buses are picking up kids in the "dark of night"? No. Just because it's early doesn't make it an illegal meeting. If proper notice was given, then it's a legal meeting whether it was at 7 a.m., 7 p.m., or midnight. Meanwhile, one of your buddies says having a meeting at 10 a.m. isn't right either. When is the right time for government officials to meet? These folks have obligations to meet just like you. If they're not full-time government employees, like David Austin, then they probably have full time jo

Women Work More Hours Than Men In The U.S.
Nice Green replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I'm not G D. Open your eyes! The generalization is that women make less than men, but I've never seen conclusive evidence that women make less for the same job, same amount of experience, and all other variables the same. -

It's hard to argue with you when you can see examples of this in the thread, but I would warn against making such blanket statements. Contrary to popular belief, there are some good folks on both sides of the aisle—they're just very few and far between. -

Can't believe a Pcommer posted a chart in a thread...and it's actually relevant to the thread's topic. Anyone got today's temperature readings in Hell?
