  1. Funny how everyone keeps blaming the commissioners and the Chamber and the mayors in Paulding but few, if any, have mentioned any of the other Airport Authority members by name (they're right here FYI - http://www.pauldingairport.com/?q=board-members) Did the other guys vote against the plans? Do opponents of the plan know for sure they weren't involved? Or does calling them out not fit into the narrative of the "back-door deals" involving the commission and others? I'd venture to guess that the other folks are Paulding residents. They at least seem to have several connections to Pauld
  2. I think several people joined PCOM as this airport issue was taking off (pun intended) and have mostly just commented on said issue. Are you going to get onto them too?
  3. They're not businesses, but I'm guessing that most, if not all, of the county high schools' proms—counting their students and their dates, chaperones, etc.—would easily surpass 300 people at each event. Put the center close to Paulding's restaurants, and you have a good bit of revenue that stays in the county for those events instead of going out of the county. Five proms a year wouldn't justify the building of a center, but it's a start. And maybe other counties would be interested in it for their proms.
  4. A conference center would bring income to the county. For one, the center would have to be booked, which means revenue. Attendees would also need a place to stay (hotels/motels) and food to eat (catering/restaurants), which is more money. They may also want to shop or see a movie, so that's more revenue there. Do we need more to do in Paulding? Sure. But it's not the county's job to establish private entertainment venues or tourist attractions. They can offer incentives to entice companies to bring them, but they can't outright put them in the county. And I believe the Booth Museum that you m
  5. That's my point. There's no recent plan. And one state senator's wishes is far from a plan. Besides, he's only entering his second year in office, if I'm not mistaken. He has little to no power to push a project like that through. Now have a longtime legislator promise it's going to happen, then maybe you have something.
  6. Wrong. You elect the commissioners, who in turn appoint people to the AA and IBA (those not on it due to their positions in government). It's representative government. You elect certain folks to do the business of the government, and they in turn make some decisions that impact the people. It's not like no one knows who are on the AA or IBA. Every appointment is voted on in public at the BOC meeting. You don't like who they're appointing? Say something at a meeting. Since I don't know for sure, I'll ask—do appointed members of the boards have to be Paulding residents, or residents of
  7. Unless you can show us a current plan or current evidence that there is talk of bringing MARTA to Paulding, you need to stop mentioning it. You're being intellectually dishonest by continuing to bring up a nonexistent scenario. The same can be said for you and the anti-airport people.
  8. I don't want any citizens who aren't paying their fair share to have a say in government. Why should tax dodgers have a say in how my government spends MY tax dollars? Other folks on here are saying that those who don't live in Paulding shouldn't be making decisions for Paulding. If they don't have any "skin in the game" as some people are saying, and therefore shouldn't get a vote, then why should those late on their taxes get a say?
  9. You got it. And I wasn't trying to say you were wrong—just wanted to clarify for folks who may misinterpret what you said, or those unable to grasp the concept at all.
  10. A refund doesn't always mean you don't have to pay - it usually means you already paid, and, in fact, overpaid.
  11. Who's Doug? And I don't take the pulse of Pcom as gospel, but when only a few folks on here are spouting the same arguments against the airport expansion, I don't read that as "everyone's against the airport expansion," like some of you are claiming. Thanks for your grade-school insult. You really made my day! Appreciate the invite, and here's a little bit of advice in return: You can catch more flies with honey. Do all you guys insult your opponents like this?
  12. Prove it. Show them to us. Because to many of us on here, the opposition appears to be the same half dozen or so posting the same tired arguments (some more than others).
  13. If you express an opinion on here, you should be prepared to defend it. If you can't defend it, don't change the subject. If you change the subject and someone calls you out on it, don't whine that you were called out on it.
  14. Why wasn't this attributed to Organizing for Action, Barack Obama's policy advocacy group? They wrote it, so it should be presented as such.
  15. How is creating jobs not a good thing to do? It's great that many jobs have been created overseas or in Mexico. Those people need to make a living and eat too. Yes, I want more jobs to be created here, but I do believe companies have the right to choose where to create their jobs, whether it be in Paulding County, Cobb County, across one of the state borders or out of the country. Perhaps if our tax system underwent some changes, folks would be less likely to create jobs overseas and more apt to keeping their funds here. It's great that you cook your own meals, but do you grow every ve
  16. Education is more than that, but those three things are more or less the basis of education. Spelling and language are the basis of communication, which is key in U-N-D-E-R-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G, which you're always keen about stressing. And the charts you consistently post would be blank without math.
  17. Dictionaries are pretty cheap, despite what you believe about the cost of education. Now if you'd pick one up every once in a while... And really? It's my opinion that you whine? Maybe you should look up "whine" in the dictionary, perhaps the one originally published by Noah Webster, not Daniel.
  18. Try telling that to all the bosses you've ever had. The people you speak of CREATE JOBS. Why is that a bad thing? Do you cook every meal for your family? Why not? Why would you go to a restaurant and make someone cook your food for you when you could be doing that yourself? Doesn't that make you lazy? Your logic is pretty funny when it's applied to the real world. Maybe you'll join us there sometime.
  19. There are 155 other counties in Georgia, and some of them are bound to have airports. Do you know for sure that NONE of those counties would take an airport expansion project?
  20. And you dodge my question, as usual. If you're so concerned about those who aren't the 1%, what's your plan of action to help them? Do you do anything besides whine about the 1% on here? It's the Christmas season—you could spend your energy on here sharing with folks how to help those in need. Or you could stay off of Pcom and help those in need yourself. What do you hope to accomplish with all your discussion threads and all your pie charts?
  21. Honestly, I think you did that on your own. So in this thread alone, you've gone from: Obamacare ->conservatives -> the 1% -> the richest 10% -> “arrogantly entitled people” -> average household income You either started this Obamacare thread to once again kick off your diatribe against the rich, or you keep changing the subject because you have nothing to back up your arguments on every topic you bring up. So which is it?
  22. Honestly, I don't think politicians should promise much of anything. Yes, I'd like them to promise they'll be honest, but they shouldn't promise things like "this will always be a small airport." Circumstances change, and in this case, someone saw the opportunity to develop an industry and the ripple effects it could cause. For me, I think that's worthy of breaking a promise. Also, I think most politicians would find it hard to keep promises. Could a Republican president keep every promise when he has a Congress controlled by Democrats, or vice versa? Locally, could Thompson keep a p
  23. So a 37-year-old document proves that the county will get MARTA and a toll road? Unless you have something more recent that involved someone from the current administration, such talk is pretty much hearsay.
  24. Setting up an election just for this would cost money. Poll workers and machines aren't free. And are you really going to start a precedent where we vote on everything coming to town? Or would you wait and put this on the next actual election day? And that's when...May? Are you going to tell prospective businesses to "wait until the next election" to find out if county residents want them there? What proof do you have that a majority of the residents of this county don't want the expanded airport?
  25. Again, not all the citizens agree with you. And the court system isn't designed to support your cause or any cause—it's designed to support the laws of our land. I hope the opponents of the airport that are taking this issue to court actually have some legal arguments behind them. If not, then they're throwing these legal roadblocks up to the detriment of this county, and they're the ones costing county residents more tax money.
