The swabbing your sinuses, test positive kind of real flu......
Mama Carol replied to dawneykids's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I have a friend who got a flu shot back in early October. He also has been fighting something the past week but he has been able to work, almost no fever. He was really bad sick for one day and one day only. If he had the flu, it was a mild case. He has had the flu before and he swears that what he had was the flu. He slept through most of Saturday but then Sunday he was fine other than being a little tired. The shots help most of the time, much like Tamiflu. I was still miserable when I took it but was at least able to get out and go after 3 days. When I had it back in the late 198 -

I had that while my mom was in the hospital and had not gotten over it when she went to hospice the following week. I feel so bad for you. I know the misery. I hope you feel better soon. Sounds like the Tamiflu hasn't made it much better either. That isn't a good sign that it's working well. Did you get a flu shot? Yeah, three weeks sounds about right. I had it the first week in March and was just beginning to feel almost normal at the end of March. And I took Tamiflu, too. Get well SOON!!! -
The funny thing about the one who called us, they left a message but neither of us could understand the name of the person they were calling for. Their closest location to here is Valdosta or right outside of Valdosta. No way anyone here was seen by an ER in Valdosta. And the company is not the billing group for the hospitals here or the hospitals up there.

Was it by any chance a place called Sheridan Emergency Physicians was it?

I prefer to think of myself as the female Guy Sharpe.

Our schools opened 2 hours late today, as did those in Escambia (FL) and Mobile (AL). I haven't heard of any in the panhandle or in LA closing. Doesn't mean they didn't. Just that I haven't heard of any. And it's COLD. A few years ago, there was snow here while back in Cobb County all we got was rain. Our weather here is not that much different than in metro Atlanta. Snow occurs very, very rarely but when it does, apparently it happens more often in March. Folks been bundled up here since the temperatures dropped into the 50s.

Weather history for Atlanta: Lows by year, month of January 2013 26 2012 19 2011 18 2010 13 2009 12 2008 15 2007 17 2006 26 2005 16 2004 19 2003 8 2002 19 2001 17 2000 19 And let's not forget 1985 when it was -8.

Why bother telling people where they can buy coats? Look around Hiram. There's Target, Walmart, Academy Sports, Goodwill and I'm sure a few other thrift stores. It's not like there is a coat shortage. It's a preparation problem and that is NOT mine to solve. Neither is it yours to solve. People can figure out where to get a coat if they have the means to do so. Why should I be concerned if their kid is cold. They aren't concerned enough to get them a coat. And when their car breaks down because they weren't concerned enough to check the antifreeze, that's not my problem to solve eithe

You're absolutely correct. Why should I care if a child is cold because they don't have a jacket.

I don't give a rat's furry behind whether or not schools are closed. What pisses me off is people saying they aren't prepared for cold weather. Why not? It comes along every year. It's not like it could sneak up on you. It's January. It's Georgia. It's cold. Prepare for it. And here's a hint. It will be cold off and on until April. It's WINTER.
-
I find it difficult to believe that the average low here in Milton, FL in January is 38 and we're better prepared for cold weather than people in Paulding County are where the average low in January is 29.

Actually, I walked about 25 feet from the front porch to the bus and then about another 25 feet from the bus to the school building. If it was winter, I had a heavy jacket, scarf, hat and gloves on, too. In metro Atlanta because believe it or not, we have winter in metro Atlanta. I also spent more time outside than I did inside and our schools did not have the best heat in the world. It's cold outside? Really? Those faucet covers, the heat tape we put on our well and the tarp over the tank and all the pipes kinda made me think it MIGHT be cold. The thermometer telling me it was 17

I think you hit the nail on the head. People don't want to prepare because it's too hard. And too expensive, too. After all, a good quality jacket can cost as much as the latest video game. And gloves. OMG! Gloves can cost as much as a movie ticket or a #1 at McDonald's. Who has that kind of cash lying around? After you pay for getting your nails, your cable TV, the video system, the designer clothes and all that other stuff who has money for a coat or gloves? I went to school in Georgia at a time before girls could wear pants to school. I can't remember ever being uncomfortably c

The first thing I learned upon moving to the Florida panhandle was PREPAREDNESS. We are prepared for a tropical storm, a hurricane, tornadoes, a wildfire, a chemical emergency, extreme heat and extreme cold. This area went 60 years without a direct hit from a hurricane. People were prepared when it happened. Wildfires don't generally hit here in town but they do in areas outside of town. People in those areas are prepared for them. People who live near the chemical plant are prepared for chemical spills. These things happen a lot less often than does WINTER in Georgia. Last winter

A high five isn't enough. High Six!!! Way to go Subby!! I am so happy for you. YAY!!!!!!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out why the kids need to be bundled up for that walk from the car to the school building.

Not worth it.

Did I not say that ANYONE who participated in the incident should be treated the same way? In fact, I'll refresh your memory as to what I said: If the entire story is that she assaulted someone unprovoked, yes, she should be charged. Make her pay her fine, which is all that will happen, and create a criminal out of her. But anyone who participated in the incident needs to be treated the exact same way. I've been misquoted in the press, so I have little faith in what is in a video.

I'm quite sure my oldest thought that school should be cancelled because she didn't have leather Nikes to wear for her second day of middle school. She damn well was prepared for cold weather, though. But maybe our priorities were mixed up.

I live in the Florida panhandle. People here own hats, scarves, gloves, parkas, boots, thermal underwear, sweaters, vests, all kinds of cold weather gear. They were bundled up today like it was cold. It was only in the 30s with about a 25 mph wind. You simply cannot tell me that people in metro Atlanta don't own that stuff. Not buying it.

Nobody can drive on ice. Snow can be tricky, even for someone used to it. Hubby said the funniest sight he ever saw was being in Maine one day when they got the first snow of the winter. Guys in their pick up trucks crashing into the ditch, sliding all over the road and in general driving just like they do in Atlanta on the first snowy day of the winter. We have several cold months. They are called December, January and February. Happens almost every year. It's more rare that we don't have snow at some point than do. And some of the worst weather has come in March, even late March

One of my friends said it was snowing in Rockmart. Just flurries, I think.

I knew last night when I checked radar it looked like the snow was going to the north and to the west of metro Atlanta. It was like it got to Birmingham and caught a tailwind and headed north. I guess that's a good thing. I hope the weather forecasters are wrong about our temperatures.
-
I haven't turned on the TV yet to see the news so tell me, how much snow fell last night in and around Paulding County? And what are the temperatures? We had a thin coating of ice on the boat cover this morning but the low only went to 33. Not sure how the ice formed but there it was. Supposed to be cold here today with our high being something like 36. And it's supposed to be 14 at 6 a.m. in the morning with a wind chill of 4.

That is the call of the local law enforcement authorities and not someone sitting a couple of hundred miles away looking at video that may or may not tell the entire story. If the entire story is that she assaulted someone unprovoked, yes, she should be charged. Make her pay her fine, which is all that will happen, and create a criminal out of her. But anyone who participated in the incident needs to be treated the exact same way. Let's make this like a high school where even if you're defending yourself, you get charged. End of story.
