I don't do the cleaning thing that much, just some along every day. What I do have happen to me is get distracted while doing something. Like I'll start to wash dishes and see that the garbage needs to go out so I'll do that. Then back in to put garbage bags in the can. I turn around and realize I should have cleaned off the table, too. I gather up the papers or whatever else are on the table and head to either the pantry or the laundry room. Once there, I see things that need to be done. Finally I get back to the kitchen only to find out that I need to make tea. Then I have to go to t -
I saw those today. They are NOT red light cameras, or at least not like the red light cameras I have seen in various places. I also believe that notice has to be given that red light cameras will be installed prior to the work.

What to do about all of these solicitation calls?
Mama Carol replied to Mrs G's topic in RECENT TOPICS
We keep getting telemarketing calls for our business, which we closed in December 2010 (yes, almost TWO years ago). It doesn't seem to matter to those people that 1) we no longer have a business or 2) that we're on the do-not-call list. They KEEP calling. In fact, I got irate with one company's reps who kept calling. I told each and every one of them that we no longer have a business, we're on the do-not-call list and to put us on THEIR do-not-call list. Finally with about the tenth one, in less than 10 weeks, I told them that I had been telling their people for the past month (or six wee -
Happy to see you're staying.

What to do about all of these solicitation calls?

I was harassed by a telemarketer a few years ago. He kept calling and kept calling and kept calling when I told him I wasn't interested. On about the 10th call I informed him that I was calling his employer and reporting him. I did, too. -

the inventor of Caller ID is my hero. I no longer HAVE to answer the phone unless I want to. Funny (sort of) story. About six weeks ago my sister in law called. We have no heard from my sister in law in several YEARS because of a family falling out. Anyway, she IS a friend of mine on Facebook. Anyway, she called and my husband saw it was her and didn't answer. He had NO desire to talk to her. She called back and left a message. Then she got on FB and posted "I wanted to talk to you on the phone but I guess you can't pick up today". Never mind I was not home at the time she calle -
What to do about all of these solicitation calls?

Except for rare occasions, I don't answer the phone if I don't know the number. We pay for our phone service, not the telemarketers. Until they pay for it, we get to decide who we talk to. Oddly enough, just as I started this reply, I got a charity I do not talk to. I push "talk" and then "off". I file complaints against them on the FTC do-not-call list website. We're on the do-not-call list and therefore, these companies SHOULD be checking that. On the rare occasions I do answer when it's a sales call of some kind, I tell them we are on the list and hang up. I had one ph -
You know, Glenn, I think you put into words one of the reasons I cancelled the interview last week. I can pay the bills I need to pay, work the hours I want to work, work WITH who I want to work with and am fulfilling a long held dream (on more than one front). Maybe that why I haven't gotten any of the jobs I've interviewed for--I'm content. In fact, in a LOT of ways I hate leaving my clients. I'll miss every one of them, and the former clients as well. And the "almost" clients, too. I didn't cancel the interview because of the money though it was amazing to me that it paid the

I love working. I make NOTHING sitting at home. Nada. However, I realized that I didn't want that job at $8 an hour. Not because it paid $8 an hour but there were a lot of other reasons. My point is the jobs doing what I did for 15 years now pay what I made 15 years ago, not what they should pay NOW.
-
Job wasn't full time. It was part-time. Pay was $8.00 an hour. I was making that much in 1996.
-
My monthly income now runs about $400. I was making roughly $250 a week in 1996. More during early April when I was working 60 hours a week.
-
I can't get hired doing what I did for 15 years even when the employer doesn't require all the skills I have! They see me, an "older lady" and think "big money". I did have an interview scheduled last week but the job paid what I was making in 1996 so I cancelled. I guess the flip side is you can have the skills but so do 400 other people so EVERYONE'S odds are terrible. Employers really do have their pick in that situation.

How true!! We had one in our neighborhood that used to be upper 100s. It sold in March for 39K. She's STILL putting money into it and no telling how much she already has put into it. The one next door to her was valued in the upper 200s before the people who owned it got into drugs and trashed the house with the help of the people living next door to them (yes, the same house). That guy has put thousands of dollars into the house he bought for $85,000. Unless the economy turns around, it will NEVER again be a 200K house. Never. Even if between what he paid for it and what he puts in it

My next door neighbor used to be a parapro at an Atlanta city school. A one way commute of about 27 miles. She was always complaining about the lack of money. I told her to find a job closer to home, say Powder Springs Elementary or even in Paulding. She kept saying she couldn't take a pay cut. I told her to do the math and factor in the IRS allowed auto deduction as a good starting point for her auto expense. Factor in the time, using the rate of pay per hour that she made. Then decide if she would have more money in pocket after taking a pay cut. She did the math, decided she could m

Accidental Shooting in Paulding last night

I agree with this. It IS exciting to see and handle something that is "exotic" or unknown. And with all the violence on TV, in movies and in video games kids don't realize that bullets hurt and bullets kill. And that dead is dead. There is no reset. And it isn't guns who kill people. People kill people. Sometimes accidentally, too. Prayers for the girls family and friends. -
Yep, bad old Republicans in the White House in 2010. Wait, that wasn't a Republican in there in April 2010! That was OBAMA! Alternative energy MIGHT be the way to go but right now this country can't afford it. We need whatever it takes to help fuel the economy (no pun intended). BTW, the "oil crisis" of 1979 and 1980 happened when Carter was president. However, there was unrest in major oil producing countries at the time. Sound familiar?

Update on Rainy, my girlfriend....it was a GREAT DAY.

I hate to hear that Glenn. Keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers. -
Probably only way to find out would be to go to the courthouse and search records. Or ride around subdivisions and look at the "for sale" or "for lease" signs. Could talk to people who have sold their houses to a company. My guess is it's individuals buying them and not companies. In all honesty, I think most companies in the Atlanta area that would be buying houses for investment would be buying in East Cobb, Alpharetta, Dacula and points east. According to the AJC, the companies that are buying a lot of homes in metro Atlanta are Sylvan Road and Waypoint Homes as well as Landsmith-Pre

I hate it!! I used to be a member of an unmoderated board that makes ALL forums on Pcom look tame but the PF scares the crap out of me. -
I expect it was the same reason a lot of people had--to move somewhere quieter, better value for your money, better way of life. What has happened is the things they were trying to get away from followed them. The same thing happened in the 60s when people began leaving the Adamsville, Boulder Park and Cascade areas. The crime as well as other undesirable facts of life of living in the "city" followed them to places like Mableton, Austell, Powder Springs, Douglasville and Paulding County. I grew up in Smyrna. I had some neighbors who moved to Paulding in the late 1960s when it was
