  1. I've heard of that happening often enough recently that we are actually preparing for that scenario. Our house is in tiptop shape and we expect it to sell quickly.
  2. I hope she makes medical history with a quick, full recovery. Like I said before, brain injuries (like strokes and aneurysms) are not what they used to be. They are VERY treatable now.
  3. I know it's off topic but did that happen on I-20 near Six Flags?
  4. I darn near spewed sweet tea all over my laptop. That was beautiful!
  5. Our agent or someone in her office, yes. Yes, the bids were placed after we placed ours with only one exception. That was after we submitted a verbal offer. We were told that there were two showings and two likely offers coming that weekend and if we wanted the house we needed to go ahead and make a GOOD offer. The house had only been shown once prior to us seeing it. It had been on the market for a good while, in a time that sales are brisk (late spring, early summer). No offer was accepted until we had notified our agent we were not going to submit a written offer. On one hous
  6. I found that, at least in the case of myself, my siblings and my nephews who lived with us from time to time, it was not done out of anger. It was done to punish us but at no time was it done to embarrass us or out of anger. Like I said in my other post, what my husband went through WAS abuse. It WAS done out of anger and not out of love. It was NOT done with switches. A few years ago my next door neighbor had to go to the school to explain the mark on her daughter's hand. She was using a belt to give the daughter a spanking when the girl put her hand behind her to grab the belt.
  7. That's what parents like ours did. That was, in my opinion, not child abuse. It was discipline, done with love. Child abuse was the punishment my husband received. It wasn't with switches, it wasn't done on the backs of the legs and it wasn't done with love. Today his parents would be serving time and he and his brother would be in foster care. Therein lies the difference between "abuse" and "punishment". I'd rather had my mom take a switch to me than "have a talk" with me.
  8. Why did I think you were moving to Florida?
  9. It's been a long time since we saw a cop over here. I guess since they came by asking if we knew how to get in touch with our neighbor. Now that he's gone, no reason for them to come back.
  10. Only good snake is a dead snake. If it's on my property, it's a dead snake. I have yet to see a game warden in my subdivision even though I have seen deer, armadillo, coyote, snakes, owls, hawks, vultures, rats, mice, squirrels and chipmunks. BTW, I saw a flock of about a half dozen turkeys this morning on my way to Rockmart.
  11. The first one broke our hearts. We both cried. I didn't cry during my mom's funeral but I cried when we got the letter saying that the seller had cancelled the sale. We were packing to move!! We had a closing date that was closing in. Talk about heartbroken! We were devastated. The really sad thing is that house is STILL sitting empty, after almost 2 1/2 years! Stupid quasi-governmental agency can't figure out that they need to talk to the owner of the adjoining property and work out a deal. He WANTS to get it settled. We lost most of them to financed offers. Only one was cash.
  12. In 1996 we purchased 25 acres of land in Douglas County, right around the corner from my mother in law and brother in law, with the intent of building a house. In 2001, on a lark, we listed the land for sale in the Farmer's Bulletin. We had a contract within 2 weeks. We thank the Lord every single day for getting us out of that obligation. It would not have been the place for us. We knew that in hindsight. We have talked several times about the houses we missed out on the last 2 1/2 years and actually feel good about missing at least 3 of them. Just the first one and the current one
  13. Love machine shops. Tell him you know where he can buy some machine shop equipment if he's interested. Then let me know. We have some for sale since hubby had to give it up.
  14. Isn't EVERYTHING north of 285 and east of Thornton Road considered "Vinings" now? I've seen real estate listings for houses around the East West Connector and Floyd Road that say "Vinings". These people need to learn that Vinings is down by the railroad track on West Paces Ferry!
  15. In our case, I don't believe for one minute it was an evil corporation. It was smart investors from the area. What we WERE afraid of was that our agent wasn't working for US but for her investor friends. She made no bones about the fact that she had some investor friends. We had already tried to buy this house on which we now have a contract. But now we have a verbal contract and will be getting a written one next week. Hopefully we will schedule closing at that time, so we have a better idea of when exactly we can start moving stuff. We've been "up in the air" for way too long.
  16. It was interesting to me that with one exception, all the houses we were interested in were bought by local folks. Not just the houses we made offers on but all of them we SAW. And yes, I found out that information, so it's not a supposition on my part. One house which was a tiny 1300 sq ft house in an older neighborhood was purchased by someone in the next town over who lives in a gated community of $350,000+ houses. Hmmmmmmm. Obviously, they didn't plan to live there regardless of what they told Fannie Mae. That was the house that sold for MORE than asking price. Who in their right mi
  17. That needed a spew alert. I forget you're from Vinings.
  18. My policy: unless you're in my e-mail list and were added by ME, you're spam and that is where your e-mail goes. Period. I use one particular e-mail for my utility accounts and it is not associated with anything else, not even my Internet provider. Since all the utilities are in my husband's name, with the exception of my cell phone, if I should get anything from Bellsouth, Greystone, Georgia Power or any water company, I KNOW that it's spam.
  19. As Colonel Potter said on M*A*S*H*, horse hockey. Realtors are NOT amazed at what is going on. We strongly suspected that the agent we were working with, or someone in her office, KNEW what our offers were and pointed people toward those houses and suggested the offer. Just seemed too much of a coincidence that houses we saw, some of which had been on the market for THREE YEARS without an offer would go under contract within a week of us viewing the house or making an offer! THREE YEARS and suddenly two offers? Or in the case of one house, FOUR offers in one weekend. We're not talking
  20. Quite honestly, why would anyone want to live in the metro Atlanta area? Even places like Austell, Powder Springs, Hiram and Dallas are like the inner city these days. For us at least, there is light at the end of the 2 1/2 year tunnel.
  21. You sound more and more like the way things used to be over there. Always had a checkers game going on and always had beer in the fridge. Now, if you tell me you plan on a killer New Year's party that starts on December 17 and runs through January 2, I will know that it IS the area.
  22. I'll likely see you in that case. Extra hugs if you need them.
