  1. It's a federal law but not all states abide by it. Florida does.
  2. The law certainly seems to discriminate against women, doesn't it? I've been married for 35 years and had to get a certified copy of my marriage certificate in order to get my drivers license. And yet, they took a utility bill in MY name for proof of residence for my husband. I have a sister in law who has been married four times, the last time she's been married for about 20 years. I can't imagine the headache she has to renew a license.
  3. Vote absentee. ANYONE who is a registered voter can do that. IMO, there is NO excuse for not voting if you're registered.
  4. I just started with a new chiropractor here and even they require a photo ID. All the doctors I went to up there required them, generally on every visit (yes, even the ones I know personally). I moved in April. I got a jury duty summons. For Cobb County. Guess what piece of information they require for getting OUT of jury duty? Yep, a driver's license is top of the list. [quote name='PUBBY' timestamp='1375204237' post='3824678'] So doctors and hospitals require an ID for treatment ... yeah, sometimes. I suspect that if they hold you at the door while you're in the midst of
  5. We contacted three of the companies recommended by our insurance company. Only ONE actually came out to take a look at the problem. The other two went off the insurance claim with a price. We called another business, a (former??) Pcommer and they never showed up. They did, however, call about a week after the job was done to say they could come out to look. We ended up going with another company who did the work fast, on time and for less than the insurance company paid us for. Our insurance adjuster told us that had it been fairly certain that the damage was caused by wat
  6. I have to show ID to donate blood. I have to show ID to use my credit card. I have to show ID to file legal papers with the state or county. What's the big freaking deal about showing ID to vote?
  7. Skip the carpenters and the handymen and go straight to Benchmark Restoration in Douglasville. You have almost an identical problem to one we had. They do the job in one day and were VERY reasonable in price. Seriously, forget the handymen and the ones who "do it all". Get a pro at restoration. You won't be sorry. Since Benchmark is not a commerce member I can't post their contact information. You can Google them. I can even give you a contact name and number if you PM me. Tell you what, I'll PM you the information.
  8. Does he have a chip? Might call a few of the local vets to see if anyone has brought him in. If he has a chip, they can find that.
  9. The lists, at least the one I saw, did not say anywhere that those items were optional or that they were merely "suggested" items. The one I saw, for Hendricks Elementary in Austell, said "bring items to Sneak-a-Peak". It read as though they were required and you darn well better have them before the first day of school. At least here, the supply list states that none of the items are mandatory and that everything is asked for. That being the case, I think I'll go pick up enough for one kid's list and donate it to the school. After all, they are ASKING for these items. I'm a whole hec
  10. My youngest went to private pre-k. There was nothing else to buy unless you wanted to. I was co-room mother and spent two days a week in the classroom helping (I worked the other days school was in). I chaperoned field trips. I cut out hearts, Pilgrims, whatever the teachers needed help with. We were only expected to supply the basic necessities for our child--paper, folders (if needed), etc. We were never asked to bring cleaning supplies.
  11. EXACTLY!! I never have minded getting extra and sharing with anyone in need. It's being told that I HAVE to get extra and share that rubs me the wrong way. I'd give someone the shirt off my back if they ask for it. If they tell me I'm giving them the shirt off my back, they better come with back up. I don't even mind the school supplies. It's the fact that parents are having to provide them as well as classroom supplies which regardless of how you feel about getting these items and giving to the teacher, the SCHOOL SYSTEM should provide supplies for the teachers to use in class. Th
  12. I had one in marching band. If you couldn't pay for band camp, you couldn't march. But that's an extracurricular activity and not required. I, too, was wondering what happened if a student couldn't pay that $300 or so to attend school. It could be a logistical nightmare for the teacher. Seems like it would be a much better solution to ask for half of the items at the beginning of the school year and the other half after Christmas break. I hate walking around boxes and dealing with clutter. I can't imagine it would be conducive to a good learning environment to have to dea
  13. Yeah, probably so. He does that sometimes.
  14. I'm funny. I HATE stainless steel because like you said it is so hard to keep clean. But I don't like black either for the same reason. When I picked out all new appliances for my house, I went with bisque. Easy to keep clean but not "industrial" looking like either white or stainless. The fridge has a textured finish and is easily to clean. When I get ready to get new appliances here, I will either go with white or bisque. Right now it's a collection of white (fridge and microwave), avocado (dishwasher and range hood) and black/stainless (range).
  15. Oh HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLL no!!
  16. And I at no time said that personal supplies should be provided by the school. It's just that schools are asking students and their parents to supply "classroom supplies" which SHOULD be provided by the school and not the student. I have NO, ZERO problem with the binders, the folders, the paper, the pencils or anything the student needs for THEIR OWN PERSONAL USE being purchased by the parent. Never said I had a problem with it. It's the communal items and the classroom supplies that I DO have a problem with. As I asked someone else earlier, were kids in our day expected to bring chalk
  17. You're right. I was thinking regular kindergarten.
  18. They have to be five to be in pre-K.
  19. Goodnight John Boy. Uhhhh, Caped.
  20. That is true. Has nothing to do with sales tax however. When a credit card company does a "forgiveness" such as that, the amount they forgive is then taxable income to you. Fair market value is what a willing buyer will buy it for and what a willing seller will sell it for. It would be difficult, but not impossible, for the government (state or federal) to say you must pay sales tax on the "regular" price of an item. If someone sues Wally World over the collection of 21 cents in tax, imagine the lawsuits that would fly if the government mandated it.
  21. Yeah, but not my favorite show.
