We really liked that truck. It was the most comfortable riding vehicle we have ever owned until we got our current 2008 Silverado. The burgundy and silver was spectacular, too. I can see a soccer mom needing an Explorer much more than I can something like a 250. Though I know a woman who drives a Silverado and whose kids are grown. Her husband uses the truck occasionally for work, though. I had a neighbor up there who drove a truck. I never figured out why she felt she needed one. Her only kid just turned 5 so it isn't like she is a soccer mom yet, they don't have dogs or hor

It might actually be easier to find information as him as his name would not have changed due to marriage (though certainly due to adoption). That is one of the difficulties I, my aunt and my uncle have had tracing family history--females married and in many cases, the name of the husband was not known or an early marriage ended in death and a subsequent marriage had no record. Much easier, IMO, to trace through males than females. Where there's a will, there's a way. It might be difficult but it's not impossible. I noticed both maternal and paternal lines are available. COOL!

My grandmother was an official historian for Cobb County. Someone, and I don't remember who, interviewed her shortly before her death. It is on tape and I have a copy of it (somewhere in this mess). I treasure it. And that is excellent advice!!! The treasure of the voice of someone no longer with you will be worth as much as the information. They have them that do both. You have to pay more for it, of course. I totally agreed about being careful about the "ancestry.com" trees. Several have come up that I KNOW are not related in any way to me. I have my father's complete

Aunts, uncles and even cousins?

We last had a vehicle payment in 1999-2001 when we bought a Ford F250. Our payment was almost $600 a month, nearly twice as much as our house payment was. I think the truck payment was something like $579 and the house payment was a little over $300. Thank goodness we sold a bunch of property and were able to pay off both the house and the truck. Why would a "soccer mom" need a truck?

Do you have any information about your birth father? If so, at least you would have one side of the family to research. Yours is a case where the DNA testing might be the way to go. Not to find your birth father but to find out your lineage. I have a nephew who is adopted. I don't think he could find out anything about his birth parents if he tried as he is from Ecuador.

I picked up a Georgia guide at the welcome center last week. I read something interesting in there. It said that upon the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation that the focus of the War Between The States turned to the issue of slavery. I found that to be quite telling actually. That says that originally the focus of the War Between The States was NOT slavery but in fact states rights. I'm going to try to find the first three articles in the series as this article covered primarily the third year of that horrid war. But that isn't related to the topic posted. I love genealo

And definitely talk to as many older members of the family as you can. They can give you names and places at least. Might be able to narrow down some time periods for you, too.
-
That's easy. Find a genealogy group or class. Go to the main Cobb County library to the Georgia room. All kinds of reference material on genealogy there. Start with the basics--you and your immediate family, like mom, dad, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Write it all down. There are plenty of diagrams you can find online to help you keep track of who's who. While you're doing that, be sure to find out what your ancestors died of and at what age. Spend $99 for a DNA test at 23 and Me. It won't tell you WHO your ancestors are but it will tell you you

As am I. My ancestors were brave, proud people who fought for what they believed in. Some fought for the Union, some for the Confederacy and some were brothers on each side. My mom always liked to say that while my dad's family came over on the Mayflower, her people were here to greet them upon arrival. Many of my ancestors were preachers, teachers and lawyers (I'll forgive them those career paths). Most were average working people with farms or grocery stores or who built buggies or barrels. Both of my grandmothers were trailblazers. One of them bought property, in 1914! And

I agree about being misquoted by the media. I was like "I didn't say that". At any rate, I didn't think twice about her comment because well, it isn't about her. It's about a baby and Prince William and Duchess Kate (or is she Lady Kate??). FWIW, I happen to love the baby's name. My husband has one of those names and a nephew another.

I Couldn't Believe What I Saw Today at the Grocery Store

That was lunch. Pubby, you know I'm teasing. I've seen the new you and I must say, you have done a great job (unless of course you've fallen apart since I last saw you at the end of March). quote name='MillCreek' timestamp='1374693578' post='3822107'] I would tell you what he was buying, but all I can say, he's getting ready to do some serious partying - ROFL! -
I kinda see her point. It's not like she is really close to William and Kate. Or even the Queen, apparently. It doesn't have anything to do with her. I do have a great-nephew and a couple of great-great nieces and nephews. It has nothing to do with me either. I haven't seen any of them since they were born and the oldest great-great niece is in high school now. I wouldn't recognize her if she walked in front of me.

We have one here, too. Might as well close it though for all the good it is. They have Family Dollar in the next shopping center over, a Dollar General about a mile away and then even more Family Dollar and Dollar General stores within 5 miles. I wish they had a Maxway here.

That, or possibly the big bird just caught the nest unattended. Happens all the time.
-
Could have been a crow or possibly a vulture (though vultures usually eat dead things). We saw the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. It was a hawk that time.
-
It's part of nature. The big bird was gathering food to feed to its babies or for its own survival.

Sounds like all the rumor fit to spread.

No separate thermostat. One works both freezer and fridge. Airflow is fine. I've checked that. Fan works. Top freezer. Actually, it's not that old. About 3 years, maybe. Just picked it up used when we moved instead of bringing the one from the other house. It seems that most things that freeze are on the top shelf. Strangely enough, liquids usually don't freeze. It's just things like lettuce and eggs. Salsa got slushy but the soy sauce was fine and it was sitting next to the salsa. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason behind what does and what does not freeze.
-
But the freezer works fine. No problems with it.

Well, what happened to LPPT's post this morning

what was it about? -
Maybe I could put the milk in the freezer, too. Vents are clear. I'll call the guy I bought it from and ask about the thermostat. I feel quite sure he put a new one in right before I bought it (I bought it used). The frustrating thing is the milk sours but the eggs and lettuce freeze.
-
My fridge keeps freezing things. Lettuce, onions, salsa, eggs, you name it. Everything but milk which it seems to let sour. Even the salad dressing in the door froze!! But not the milk. I have adjusted the temperature to where it's not as cold and have stopped putting the more delicate things in the back. And it's STILL freezing things. A whole head of lettuce was frozen this evening as was a jar of salsa. Eggs were solid as rocks last week. Any ideas of what to do? I can't adjust it any higher because then it won't keep things cold. I'm out of ideas.

I had a friend from high school who did basically the same thing. He worked for GE, other companies, did other things such as working as an auto mechanic and for a small xray equipment firm from the time he got out of the service in 1976 until his daughter was in elementary school in the early 1990s when HE went to college. Now he has not only the experience but the degree. Some big consumer electronics company was interested in him a year or so ago. He said he wouldn't go back on the road regardless of what they paid. He's quite happy with what he's doing. I just want to go back to
