  1. Just a thought. What is the difference between this and Elvis and Priscilla in the creepy category? They DID marry. Elvis was not Priscilla's step-anything but was in fact, her legal guardian prior to their marriage.
  2. It could be $25 here if it weren't for the insurance companies and attorneys. For example, up until about five years ago I was on a hormone replacement patch. My co-pay with insurance would have been $50 (and later went up). I could get it for around $40 if I paid for it myself. My insurance company did not have the patch on their formulary so they wouldn't cover it at all. I could not use the patch they would cover because I had an allergy to the adhesive. So, what do I do? Pay $50 for a patch I can't use or pay out of pocket for one I can use that is cheaper for me? And in 2011
  3. But there are drugs available here that do the same thing. I have two premmie grandsons and two premmie grandsons who didn't survive. The ones who did, came home around their due date, which is standard policy here (or when they get to be 5 pounds). And people without coverage HERE get care all the time. Only the most uncaring, undeveloped countries are going to have a health care system that turns away a woman whose water has broken.
  4. Is there any positive way to determine that the drug she was given prior to delivery improved the babys' chances of being born OK? No, I didn't think so because that is something the doctors, no matter what country they are in, can determine. It worked for HER. And according to the article, the baby was born 2 weeks later and was still unable to come home. A 28 week gestational pregnancy has a tremendously greater chance of producing a health baby vs a 26 week pregnancy. With each additional week, the odds go up by leaps and bounds. The key is to prevent delivery, if early labor has be
  5. The person I know in Canada who waited for seven years for a routine, standard procedure HAD insurance at the time. And a doctor. That was the backlog for services. She's from the US so she, too, knows both systems. She says there are definitely some pluses to it but there are also minuses. Wait times for anything is the biggest negative. And the availability of physicians if you're not in a major city. She's in Calgary which is a large city but even at that, there is difficulty finding certain physicians. Wait time at our local ER, right now, 10 minutes.
  6. Many Canadians have good access to health care services and experience manageable wait times. But some face challenges when it comes to Emergency room wait times Wait times for priority procedures Location of services Finding appropriate health service providers I am on several FB groups and almost without exception those in Canada complain about the lack of services and the wait times. One person waited 7 years for a standard procedure to be done!
  7. Let's see: 20% of $100,000 is $20,000. Then there's the cost of the airline ticket for the companion, meals for what could be months, the stress of traveling, a passport (for me, at least). So, $20,000 for the surgery here or $20,000 for the surgery there?
  8. Yes, I had a friend who traveled to Mexico to obtain a cancer treatment that wasn't approved for use in the US. Cost him a lot of money but really didn't do anything to extend his life. My nephew's wife is in the Philippines, partially for medical treatment for lung cancer. I still think I'll have my joint replacement surgery here at home. By native English speaking physicians. Pay 20K to have surgery in Europe or pay 20K to have surgery in Pensacola, 25 miles from home and where my husband can sleep in our own bed every night. No brainer to me. Besides, if I were to have the
  9. Yes, they will. Premium members only, if I remember correctly. NOT open to the public. They already have their license. I can just see Powder Springs PD changing where they park and watch for speeders now.
  10. Not sure I'd want to go to Europe for my knee replacement surgery. Locally might be better. Travel for two could get expensive, especially for the time you're talking about. Probably not in Belgium, but definitely in some countries it is up to the patient to provide supplies--even bed linens. If insurance companies didn't rule the roost, joint replacement surgeries wouldn't be as expensive as they are. In fact, medical care in general from immunizations to organ transplants, wouldn't be as expensive as it is if it weren't for insurance companies. And attorneys. EXACTLY!!!
  11. At least here, the lists say the items are optional and are not mandatory, nor are the fees mandatory. In fact, it says that on every page. Kindergarten, first and second grade supplies are on one page with third and fourth on another page and fifth on a final page. It says "these supplies are NOT required or collection of fees mandatory per school board" on each page. Cobb County does not have that disclaimer on anything.
  12. The extra coolness needed in the summer makes it a wash.
  13. The supply lists for Cobb County do not contain the words "optional", "suggested" or "these are not mandatory". And I believe OP said she asked someone at the school and they said they were mandatory. I know Cobb County used to try to play the "mandatory supply" game even back when my kids were in school. I don't think there is anything they can do if you DON'T send in these items.
  14. Try the health department. From what I understand, they offer services on a sliding scale. I don't know if they still do it, but what is now Wellstar used to have a free clinic available. I don't remember the days or the hours they operated. I do know for a fact that the doctors I worked for had clinic duty about every other month, rotating with other orthopaedists in the area. Family practice/general practice, dermatology, pediatrics, all had a rotation as they all provided services on different days. Have you thought about going to one of the clinics in a pharmacy?
  15. Their website says they will be open by year end. When they started construction, they were supposed to be open June 2013, Obviously they have not updated that, as their FB page has comments about what a great range it is. So...............it must be open.
  16. What's the speed limit in the school zone?
  17. Got 'ya. Just wanted to make sure I got the right kind. Got my ads right here--Fred's, Family Dollar, Kmart and Dollar General. Going tomorrow to get as much as I can. Should take me 5 minutes driving time between them. Considering how many military families we have in this area, I'm sure the supplies will be put to good use.
  18. It's about 8 miles to Publix but it might be worth the drive. I agree with the sea scallops. Yum, yum!! Love those things.
  19. I printed out the supply list for the elementary school that the kids in my neighborhood attend. I'm going to be buying most of the items for kindergarten and donating them to the school. School doesn't start for another two weeks, so I have plenty of time to get them there. What the heck is a "plastic pocket folder"? Is this like a regular pocket folder but made of plastic instead of heavy paper?
  20. I looked at them today at the store, but couldn't buy them because it's Sunday. At least they do have them and I won't have to try to find a liquor store. They had some kind of IPA but I don't remember the brand. They do have the mix and match 6 pack for $9.99. Seems like a fairly good selection, too (what do I know???). I'll pick some up for my hubby as a treat. He drinks Miller High Life now that Coors is so much more expensive. He won't like the price of the craft beers but he likely will like them once in a while. Thanks Feelip!
  21. They aren't related by blood. Nor is there anything in Georgia that would disqualify them from being married (only blood grandchildren and grandparents, not step grandchildren and step grandparents). Likely not in many states anything that would disqualify them. If it were step-father and step-daughter, yes it would. I figure it's their business.
  22. Can you get these craft beers at places like the grocery store and Walmart or do you have to go to a liquor store (which could present a problem for us since we live in a semi-dry county)? Hubby likes beer and he might like some variety from time to time. I have seen where Winn Dixie has a "build your own six pack" shelf. Maybe I should check there. Can't do it today 'cause it's Sunday and we have to go to Navarre Beach or Pensacola to buy beer on Sunday.
  23. We have one. Looking to replace it. We got an extra firm, in spite of me trying to tell my husband we didn't need an extra firm. He said we did and the salesweasel agreed with him (of course). It's TOO firm. It is not one of those that has the cooling gel so needless to say we get too warm at night. Even in the dead of winter the most cover we have is a sheet and a lightweight comforter and even then I'm usually too warm. We never ran the a/c in the summer until we got it. Now not only do we run the a/c in the summer but we have a ceiling fan on and in the winter, we have to turn of
  24. Just hang in there. Take one day at a time, or even one hour at a time if that is what you have to do. ((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) to you. PM me if you like. Thinking of you and got you in my prayers.
