  1. Everyone has an opinion and guess what? So do I. lol. He is only 6 years old. 6 short years to learn how to deal with what life deals him. He has had changes recently which can add to his stress level and insecurities. New home/room. Farther away from Mom at bedtime, sister is away, new school coming up. These things may seem small to us as adults, or even to some kids. Some kids adapt easier to change, but some don't. Sounds like your son is one who doesn't. At 6 my son (who is 24 now) started to have really bad dreams. About something happeneing to me and leaving him alone and having to tak
  2. Can you tell me how? I have Tmobile and would love to know how to block a couple of calls. I have one wrong number that calls all the time.
  3. I feel for you. It is a horrible pain. And nothing you can do but take it easy and let them heal. I cracked (broke/fractured) 2 ribs in a car accident and had a collapsed lung. That was the pain I remember most and felt worst, even though my leg was broken thru-both bones and dangling and I had a head injury where I hit the window. But on the plus side, it was the first to heal and quit hurting. So, take it easy and try not to do anything to cause pain.
  4. Have you tried the Ford Center in Powder Springs? (770) 943-1666 It is really pretty and nicely decorated.
  5. If you want a more "down home" type of event, Folks in Hiram has a room upstairs. I went to a baby shower there. It was great. Trays of chicken tenders, veggoes, tea and of course, fried green tomatoes! It was very affordable, and they were great about meeting the needs of the group.
  6. I saw the movie today...and it does not end AT ALL the same way as the book. I don't understand why they base a movie on a book, then stray so far off the book. It is a serious tear jerker. If you are a cryer, like me, don't go to the theatre, wait on the rental.
  7. I bartered at the Powder Springs Farmer's Market last week. I bake homemade old fashion cakes and cupcakes. At the end of the day I gave several things to a farm vendor and they gave me some of the best produce. The farmer's sons were scarfing down the red velvet and chocolate cupcakes. lol. It was definately a win/win situation. I am willing to trade my baking if anyone needs a delicious cake, cupcakes or cookies.
  8. I see your point there. I was thinking more of all the specialist that came into my hospital room for a minute and charged a fortune after my wreck. And the specialist that charged a couple of hundred dollars for an office visit. Also, the general dr. charges more on the bill, and accepts what the ins pays. That way they have a write-off on their taxes. Personally, I think getting $60 for 10 minutes, well, they aren't on food stamps. hahaha. My ins doesnt require a referral. I know some still do though.
  9. I personally think the "experts" in this field are the reason healthcare is so expensive today. Drs. charge a fortune, because they can, and also because they are writing off huge amounts that don't get paid. Insurance companies withhold payments when they shouldn't and have agreements with drs and hospitals for reduced amounts-so they drs and hospitals can write off the huge amounts that don't get paid. Hospitals take a big hit from having to provide care for illegals and others that don't pay and they try to make up for it by charging $11 for an aspirin or thyroid pill that is a few cents wh
  10. I graduated in 78 and I took Driver's Ed at school. Good old Coach Pence! I don't remember having to pay anything. I personally think it should be offered at school. We have football stadiums, tennis courts, auditoriums, cheerleading!!! They all cost taxpayer money. IMO, teaching safe, defensive driving would serve kids much better than some of these or even advanced math, like trig or calculus that most won't use anyway. I think we all agree, education is important, and it is also the parents job to raise their own kids, but we trust teachers to teach our kids how to read and write, do math,
  11. I took my daughter a couple of years ago to auditions. Last time they were in Atlanta. And what a bunch of fake crap goes on! They tell you to get there at 6 am or so. Then you SIT for hours. FINALLY, hours later Ryan Seacrest comes out. They start telling you to yell and get excited. The video shows the place looking packed out with people so exicted they could burst, but it isn't. They just pan the areas that are full back and forth telling people to keep doing the yelling and screaming thing until they get what they want. But no one was really into it, they were tired of sitting there forev
  12. I don't mind being middle aged...or older. lol. I just hate the issues that seem to come with it. Age has never bothered me at all. I have two older sisters, so in my family I am always the "baby." But I went from being very healthy and never having any health issues to now dreading going to the dr. because everything is high but my height! Blood sugar, cholesterol, weight. I have given up soft drinks or sweet tea. I eat healthier now than I ever have. Where is my medical magic wand?
  13. At 7 he should be able to dress himself in the mornings without an argument. If he were mine I would "choose my battles" by telling him he can wear whatever he likes if he: 1. picks out everything the night before and lays it all together. And no fighting or pouting about it when he puts it on. 2. understands that sometimes there will be special occasion where he will be expected to dress more appropriately in what you or his mother tell him to wear. No arguments allowed. Then I would pretty much do as you did. I would sit with him and ask if each item in his drawer or closet was s
  14. I understand how you feel. You are right, you and your brother will have to deal with any fallout that comes of her relationship with this man. I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does, you know it will fall in your lap. I think you handled it admirably. Calling, asking, then letting it drop when she got defensive. I think if you want more information-and I think you need more information so you can know whether to let it drop or try to protect her, you are going to have to approach her with love-and convince your brother to do the same. Call her, talk about something else for a bit, then
  15. I was there last week and will be again this week. I love the Powder Springs Farmer's Market.
  16. What is the name of this place? Is it different than Love's? (Which we love, lol) The whole family is crazy about seafood. We are always looking for new places to try.
  17. I think EVERY new driver should have to take driver's ed. And high schools should offer it and the state should fund it. Just think how much money could be saved by reducing accidents! Unfortunately, not every parent is going to teach their child to drive safely and correctly. We all have bad habits that we pass along to our kids. Some parents go out and buy their 16 y.o. muscle cars and think becuase they have been riding a dirt bike or playing video games for years that they are ok to drive on the roads. I also think if you aren't fortunate enough to take driver's ed in school, then you shou
  18. My hubby, son and I will be there. We love a good ribeye, and can't pass it up at this price. )
  19. I am teary eyed after reading. What a blessing he was in your family's lives...and I am sure you all were a blessing to him. I am so sorry for your loss.
