I applaud you for doing this successfully on your own without the interference of the government and taxpayer assistance that ZC seems to be endorsing. The government does not owe any of us an ideal, high paying job. We have to work for it. The government does not owe any of us housing. We have to work and save for it.

Anyone who wants anything in life should scrimp and save for it. That's part of what makes it a great accomplishment when you buy it.

Be prepared to document comparable properties for the year prior. If you are appealing 2012, you'll have to develop all your data based on 2011 comparable properties. When I appealed my Cobb 2011 assessment, all my data was based on 2010 comps. It takes a lot more work than simply saying your assessment is too high. You have to prove it; usually with 5-6 comps. While I was not able to get my assessment reduced to where my data said it should be, the Cobb Assessor (with the board of equalization) did reduce it by 4% for 2011. I'm in Cobb. I fought my 2011 Assessment and won - they reduced my assessment 10K. When I received my 2012 assessment, the value of my house was reduced a further 8K.
