  1. I'm right with ya' MRNN. Why was the BS over the flag a two year ordeal that absolutely dominated two sessions? It's GOB politics and a bunch of holier than thou busybodies threatening to tell their congregation back in Baxley not to vote for anyone who dare let others be. It is embarrassing and as backward as cousin marrying. The headlines should make it real easy to attract large multinational businesses to Georgia don't you think? <sarcasm>
  2. Sweety, there is nothing "encouraging" about a young man ending his life. Absolutely nothing. Get some help.
  3. You mean less government more personal responsibility unless it costs me potential votes, correct? I'm disappointed but not surprised. However can you imagine the brouhaha if this went to the floor? It would make the flag look like an argument over which barbecue to order for lunch. maybe we are better off that it was tabled until we get out of this fiscal mess. Could be a blessing in disguise.
  4. Here's a pretty graph. It is from accurate data. It shows a near perfect relationship between debt and suposed warming, far better than CO2 does. It proves no causal relationship however. I want to point out for those of you who are humor impaired that I am joking here. I know that debt doesn't cause warming. I am however making the point that a causal relationship does not a graph make. As for CO2. When they explain how CO2 went back in time and caused the MWP, and how CO2 might be so much more effective as a greenhouse gas than water vapor in spite of thermodynamic laws to the
  5. They will have to carve the seats out where the population growth is, and I think that Paulding is front and center with a good chance. I see no reason why they can't carve out another position in west metro without either man loosing his job, but it's up to the Senate to do . I am really sad, but not too surprised, to hear that Paulette might not be on top of this situation as she should be lobbying strongly for our representation even though she may not be directly responsible. Neither of our Senators are on the 14 person reapportionment committee.
  6. I was totally unaware that it was in any way related to the Alabama rivalry. I thought it was some mentally disturbed whack job (which I still think he might turn out to be). It is totally senseless.
  7. well that's a missed opportunity. At least it won't take up the whole session while the important economic problems languish unattended.
  8. The US won't see $7.00 per gallon an time soon unless the government mandates it through aggressive taxing and environmental policy, or the Middle East explodes in a warfare that destroys wells, transportation/storage facilities, and/or ports. That kind of destruction is unlikely since whomever is in power would need the revenue from the oil industry to rule.
  9. Interesting. They are "fairly confident" that heavy rain is "far more likely to appear" in a warm climate than in a cold one. No Duh. Pass out the Nobel prizes. Now prove that the rains in 2000 were caused by anthropogenic global warming. Oh you can't, so you pass on assumptions as fact. Nevermind. And by the way, there is something called the North Atlantic Oscillation that most greatly influences the storm tracks and seasonal weather patterns over Northern Europe. The scientists believe the sea temperatures can be linked with a seemingly random climate phenomenon known as North
  10. There is just something about holding and reading a paper book that is a different experience from the LCD version. I know it will soon be a thing of the past, but I will miss it too.
  11. "The name you entered is not included in this database". Personally, I want my Dr. up to speed on the latest studies and drugs on the market, even if most of mine are generic. I also like the fact that he can hand out freebies when he sees fit. Personally, I responded far better to a certain name brand blood pressure medication than any generic we tried. Fortunately that drug has now itself gone generic. As for the list itself, I would expect drug companies to pay Dr.s for their time involved in testing. I wouldn't expect them to participate in trials for free, and that participati
  12. Congrats! We share your love of frugality. Living below one's means in order to adequately plan for the future is a foreign concept in this day and time of zero personal responsibility. Now you can load up the investments and retire as "the millionaire next door".
  13. Republicans in the GA Senate MAY OR they may not, would be a far more accurate statement. "When we have issues where there appears to be some contention, we would like to have a full caucus discussion and debate among all of our members before we proceed forward to the floor." - Senate Majority leader Chip Rogers. It looks like it has the votes although it is very close, and if it does, it will go to the floor. There are some Republican Senators from South Georgia, where voters oppose Sunday Sales 63% to 31%, who fear having to run against a Christian Coalition opponent in the next pr
  14. The Commerce Department reported a 0.3% rise in retail sales for last month, the weakest increase since last summer. The government also revised December’s sales data to a 0.5% gain from the previously estimated 0.6% increase, morbid for a Christmas season that was supposed to mark the return of the consumer. The Commerce department also reported an 8% increase in Business inventories, pointing to a potential slowdown in Manufacturing on the horizon. US import prices rose 1.5% in January, bolstering the potential for increased wholesale and retail inflationary pressure. The Builder Co
  15. ....and his new proposed budget would raise the debt by $7 Trillion over the next 10 years. In fact he proposes to spend more than we take in for each and every one of those ten years. To say he doesn't get it is an understatement. Oh, and Zoo. Thanks for the update. I don't know what we would do without you.
  16. Forced blue laws are stupid laws, and the state wants to give the local municipalities the option to sell or not to sell. That seems like a reasonable course of action to me. I can see where perhaps the majority in say Toombs County don't want Sunday sales, and that's up to them. But they should not be able to tell folks in Fulton County that they can't do it. The CC probably wouldn't even have to take out an ad in Toombs to defeat a local referendum, but they will be laughed out of Fulton. To each their own. It's good to see some bottom-up legislation that places more power at the local
  17. What a shame. I loved his folksy humor. I miss him, Lewis Grizzard, and Leroy Powell. RIP
  18. I remember her in Grace Under Fire also. She was a very good character actress.
  19. Yes it is better for anyone who can afford the risk of their deductible regardless of age. You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately, as it stands right now, it appears that no such offering will be available in the marketplace under the new healthcare law provisions that take effect in 2013 thru 2015. This, of course, is subject to change between now and then as the marketplaces themselves have not been set up by Sebelius. These types of plans along with others such as "mini-meds", are called consumer driven plans because they are quite popular and allow the consumer flexibility in cho
  20. I had an Industrial Archeology class at Georgia Tech and was hooked. I helped the professor excavate and catalog a couple of old industrial sites that had buildings partially standing in similar states of decay. I found them to be amazing places that told a story of the people who worked there and of the times in which they toiled. I sometimes wish I had chosen that as a profession.
  21. These plans make a lot of sense for young people who don't have any chronic illnesses. The reason that they will supposedly go away, is that the insurance companies need the young as a forced source of relatively safe income to help pay for the mandates of the new health care bill. In fact, many of these plans are specifically forbidden in the bill, but the Department of Health and Human Services is actively issuing discretionary waivers to favored companies and unions to offer them. Just hope that your company is big enough and is in the good graces of the administration.
  22. I would be quite surprised if this turns tragically violent. Mubarak has no leg to stand on and little support from any corner of the country save his few cronies his corruption has supported. His "police force" is no match for the military, which is clearly on the side of the protesters. The military will decide the immediate outcome whether they want to or not, and barring complete lunacy from Mubarak, all signs point to a negotiated transfer of power from Mubarak, through the military council, and to free elections. I really hope that is the outcome. "The limitation of tyrants is the
  23. It will be a military coup in name only. This should be a non-violent transfer of power until elections can be carried out.
  24. The baseball coach at Wake Forest donated a kidney to one of his freshman players this week. The surgery was carried out at Emory and was a success. The coach said that to see this kid hooked up to a dialysis machine 18 hours a day was heart breaking and he is certain that a "higher power" led the highly recruited young man to Wake over bigger programs and even the New York Yankees, where he was drafted in the 19th round. The NCAA ruled that this "gift" would not be a violation of the rules, and the WF AD said that it didn't matter to him or the university if it was a violation, they are
