  1. I'm not feeling well so I've watched all of it so far....anyone else?
  2. I've received free totes from several functions and started using them as grocery bags. As soon as I empty the bags in the kitchen, I immediately throw them back into the car. I'm not worried about germs - is that really an issue? At times, a bagger will wrap the meat in a plastic bag as normal anyway and my fruit/veggies are in plastic bags and I was my food prior to cooking/eating. Many countries use reusable bags. I do use plastic bags as trash liners, but, in my case - I had so many plastic bags around I could have lined the whole neighborhood. The plastic bags are so flimsy nowadays
  3. Uhm.....you already do pay for government ran public school with your taxes.
  4. From the ajc - story Your morning jolt: Glenn Richardson and Paulding County’s sense of irony 9:08 am February 23, 2010, by Jim Galloway Voters in Paulding County today could choose a replacement lawmaker for Glenn Richardson, the former House speaker – who resigned his district seat earlier this year after his ex-wife confirmed that he’d had an affair with a lobbyist. Tom Crawford of Capitol Impact notes that something must be in the water: Ironically, the issue of extra-marital sex has also been raised in the special election where three candidates are competing to
  5. Baldwin County Ga went to 4 day at the beginning of this year. The board chose the four-day school week, combined with three furlough days for all employees and not purchasing Benchmark Assessment, for a total estimated savings to the system of $905,537. According to Peach County, for the period of FY 09 through January versus FY 10: • Substitute costs decreased by 77.2 percent, or $130,960 • Utility costs decreased by 11 percent, or $48,718 • District-wide transportation costs decreased by 35.2 percent, or $32,215 • Student daily attendance remained the same, at 96.4
  6. Have you checked this out? http://www.goalscholarship.org/
  7. Started doing a little "googling" to see how many 4 day school weeks we have across the nation. Found that it was first introduced in New Mexico in the 1970's in response to the fuel crisis. Came up with a few who are at 4 days and MANY who are contemplating at this time. Seems as if we already have 17 states who have at least some districts with 4 day weeks. Hawaii does & also has some of the lowest test scores. Personally, I think the districts could do a better job of streamlining and if we'd remove some of the red tape bs, we wouldn't be at this point. The last number I could fin
  8. My cousin in Burke Virginia has 2 girls. Their schools go 4 1/2 days per week. Mondays are 1/2 days - somthing to do with teacher planning/development. She says that basically the girls go 4 days a week because Mondays they really do not get anything accomplished other than to go over what they will do the rest of the week.
  9. The retail development near the corner of Due West/Kennesaw Due West/Acworth Due West was built for restaurant and, at one time, Marietta Pizza Co had a sign of "coming soon". Turns out, those empty buildings, which have the perfect outdoor seating already in place, are just a few feet shy of the code distance away from Due West Elementary & Due West UMC & Kirkwood Presbyterian for them to sell beer; therefore, they didn't open there. The buildings have (and probably will) remain empty. (I travel that route every weekday)
  10. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8525675.stm General Motors (GM) has said chief executive Ed Whitacre will get an annual salary of $1.7m (£1.1m), plus $7.3m in shares at a later date. The pay package was approved by the US Treasury, which spent billions of dollars bailing out the carmaker last year and now owns a large stake in it. GM also said Mr Whitacre's predecessor, Fritz Henderson, is being paid $59,090 a month as an adviser. Wow
  11. My son was in a tournament this morning so we couldn't participate, but we saw you guys.....So proud of this community for honoring this awesome young man.
  12. There is a now hiring sign at Wade Electric at Old 41/Hwy 41 in Kennesaw.
  13. Ahimsa is here locally.....you can go to their site and read. Women in domestic violence situations sometimes will not leave their pets and womens shelters will not allow the pets to come. Ahimsa house is the answer to that problem. Just wanted the info out there. Even if you don't vote for them, you may end up knowing someone who needs their help and can pass their info along. www.ahimsahouse.org Ahimsa House, meaning "nonviolence" in Sanskrit, was founded in 2004 by Emily Christie as a result of personal tragedy. Ahimsa House was, and is, Georgia's first and only organization dedica
  14. www.ahimsahouse.org for information Please take advantage of an opportunity to help Ahimsa House deliver its mission of helping people and pet victims of domestic violence before members of the Obama administration. Change.org is running a contest soliciting creative ideas to address issues challenging our country. We submitted the Ahimsa House mission a few weeks ago, and our idea has gained enough votes to be considered for the final round. Now we need more votes. Please ask friends and family members to vote for Ahimsa House using the link below. Please pass along to all your frie
  15. the story "Exelon is looking to provide these proposals to Chinese businesses, so someone who is respectful and understands Chinese culture is preferred. An arrogant American will not work well in this role," the listing read. The ad, posted by Viva USA, an information technology consulting firm, has since been removed. Varuna Singh, the company's development manager, told FoxNews.com it received the language from its client, Exelon Nuclear Partners, and the wording somehow got past a "junior recruiter" who posted the advertisement on CareerBuilder.com.
  16. I am soooo sorry for your loss.......I can't imagine the mentality of shooting a little dog. Idiot! I'd be tempted to put up a sign with the dogs picture with a slogan something to the effect "6 pound dog shot by lowlife - Did it make you feel like a real man?" Like the idiot teenager who shot the horse with arrows in south ga. What goes thru peoples minds? Again, I'm so sorry for your loss..
  17. I'm so glad you asked....I've never heard of this either.
  18. We use "hot meats" - sunflower hearts treated with pepper. Birds love 'em, squirrels hate 'em. I've filled my feeders every day! Can't believe the number of birds right now. My bird bath attached to the railing has a heater in it. They are drinking out of it like crazy! This is a banner year at our feeders - we have two pair of blue birds (they've been here for over 2 weeks - and are fighting over ONE bluebird house), 1 pair of bluejays, I can't begin to guess the number of cardinals, finches (house and gold), oh we have a pair of rufus sided touhy's, our leaves looked like they were exp
  19. Hey, Stewart Avenue became Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta and everything was just perfect, right???
  20. We had our insurance company send a roofer out when our roof leaked during the floods - he said "hail damage", but was on top of our home for less than 5 minutes. I called 3 other companies on my own. No one else said hail damage. We've had a couple of people in our neighborhood have their roofs replaced - 1 wishes they didn't because they'd never had leaks and now they do. Our homes are all less than 9 years old. Roofs are supposed to last longer than 9 years. Our leak was due to rotten wood, not roofing issues. We did have "roof maintenance" which is where they resealed the "boots" an
  21. I was 19 when I bought my townhome. (30 years ago - LOL) EVERYONE told me about the homestead exemption - my real estate agent, my homeowners insurance agent, my mortgage company and I received paperwork from the county. Each time I've moved & purchased, I've received info re: homestead exemption from the county and from my lender. I didn't know what the paperwork meant way back then, so I called the county. that is the smart thing to do; however, most people do not "save". Sorta like all the taxes taken out of your paycheck - escrow is like something people don't really "see".
  22. DWUMC leaving today with 30 to W. VA. My hubby is chaperoning. I'm a little worried.
  23. We're just over the Cobb line and this is the first time I've every received a deficit in my escrow. (I always left the "overage" so that my payment was decreased each year.) I'm in the process of having our house reassessed. (I have to have the process completed by April 1) I do expect HO insurance to go up. A close friend of mine says all HO insurance will be rising in GA due to the amount of roofs that were replaced due to "hail damage". When lots of money is paid out in a short time - she said the amount of roofs replaced was overwhelming - then they will recoup the loss. Edited to
