  1. "most German soldiers were doing their duty, for better or worse, to their country." There is no honor in following the orders of a mass murder who preys on his own citizens. A soldier's duty is to defend ALL it's citizens and countryman. Not just 'the majority' or those in power. Those who followed the orders of the Third Reich were either young and ignorant, insanely evil, or were in a situation that seemed inescapable. Virtually all of them identified themselves as Aryan and believed in all the racial purity nonsense that lead to the death of tens of millions. It's 2010 no
  2. Perhaps, but race is a myth not a reality. And Germany didn't come into existence until the late 19th Century. The word Aryan hasn't even been in this thread until you brought it up. German-Americans actually also applies to the Jewish, Gypsy, French, Swiss, Polish and Italian Americans who happen to have ancestors who resided within the borders of a country that has existed for less than half the time as the United States. Those borders have also been in a constant state of flux through much of it's history. In otherwords, German-American is a loosely phrased non-racial term that has
  3. Your considering that time period as part of your 'heritage' pretty much says it all. By the way, I'm also German-American. I think the Monty Python take on our German side is hilarious. Please note folks. Don't mess with us Germans. Otherwise vee vill see if vee kan't make eet 'three out of five'! Schuullzzz!!!
  4. My employer is really tough. I have to sleep with her and... Come to think of it. Maybe I don't have it so hard. She never spends money yet takes the kids all over. Her idea of a good time is eating samples at Harry's and watching really bad TV shows (why would anyone watch Lost?) Wait a second. What was this about? Oh, jobs. I don't believe in them. To paraphrase the late Golda Meir, "No employers and no employees." Yes, I may never build me a castle in the sky. But at least I'll live to see my golden days. Jobs, money, politics, anger, stress, fear, greed, bullcheeze... left all
  5. Zen vee vill pur-ee-fy zee Amerikan raze!~ I see Nature Girl got zee leettle moose-stash now, ya? Time to sing battle hymns... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MqmG28dhBM
  6. But what if they're not quite Christian? Perhaps if they're cashews, half Catholic and half Jewish, would they qualify for the secret handshake? How about if they're Mormons, but they pay their taxes and tithe their income, and only have two kids. Surely that's one small step away from being a presbyterian. Do agnostics count if they don't know if they believe in anything or not? How about unitarians. I hear you can get free beer at their place. If this event consists of listening to some nice classic rock, a few snacks, a little wine, and not a single 'holier than thou' you can de
  7. I take it my post had too much common sense to merit a response.
  8. Why should she bend over? She's not in church... yet.
  9. It must be so disruptive to grow up with a mom like that. I feel deeply sorry for her kids.
  10. Whenever I hear of Detroit I think of this song...
  11. Why do I get the feeling that there are folks here who would be perfectly happy with a permanent underclass? Tiered votes??? Are we going back to the days of the real old south??? All I can say is WOW! And yes, your right to vote is protected under Federal and State law.
  12. Not true... and learn how to not be so insulting. I just happen to be against the idea of using the government to solve problems and intrude in our private lives.
  13. Why do certain 'conservative' folk always look to the government to solve society's problems? This idea smacks so much of 'Big Brother' that it should become it's own TV show. Really. We should test people so that we can 'separate the druggies' and have them clean our roads and dig our ditches. As for their kids and dependents... we'll make sure Big Brother helps take care of them too. All while lowering government spending and reducing our debt! do you really believe these types of policies will solve anything at all? Sorry to say, it's these exact type of zero tolerance policies
  14. I think it's a double edged sword. Pubby is right in saying that these policies can add more to a given economy. I've read up on both sides of the equation and although the numbers may be arguably puffed a bit, the core of it in higher employment levels and lower wages for small businesses is fundamentally true in the short term. I can't deny that. But then we have this nasty thing called the national debt. If we continue to go down this path of reckless spending (which Republicans and Democrats have been equally guilty of promoting) we will have our future generations at the mercy of
  15. I had a fellow who was a recovering meth addict finance a vehicle from me last year. He really was a super nice guy. Outgoing fellow with a Boston accent. He was able to pay for a few weeks and then had some minor troubles. I called a number he had called me on earlier during the year because I thought even during the beginning it would be a dicey proposition. Turns out it was his sister. I found out his license had been suspended and that he wasn't supposed to be driving at all. He brought back the truck... even better than when I sold it. The radio that had been notchy had been f
  16. That was me. I had too much Mexican food.
  17. See here... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/hammer-time-avantis-inferno/ The Ford Focus is one of the most defect prone vehicles during it's first few years of release. Unfortunately Ford decided to take a lot of shortcuts in design and quality before having it revamped midway through it's cycle. Even so they can last. I've seen one go through an auction of mine that had 393k on it. Typically everything around the powertrain will have a limited shelf life but the engine and transmission should be fine. Oh, one other thing. As it relates to the lot, you may have noticed
  18. We bought our house for 116k back in December 1996. The value 14 years later? 116k... and it may be closer to 110k... However our mortgage is only $650.... property taxes come out to $100 a month... no HOA... utilities usually come to about $200 a month except for the winter months (gas, electric, water, trash, phone, cable). I'll stay here. I like my neighbors and I'm a God fearing tightwad. In fact my fantasy is to take the few rental houses on our street, scoop them up, and sell them to folks who will be here for the long haul. Right now about 80% of the houses are owned by
  19. I'm confused. Does everyone agree with my suggestions? Or was it just supericon? Should I make my thoughts a bit more controversial? Hmmm... how about a Social Studies course that covers the flat tax, nurses and social justice? Perhaps I can scarf up some of those 'evolution warning stickers' from next door and paste them onto the back of Paulding's laptop computers. Maybe we could put a tax table that would index the fat and sugar content of school lunches.... or Paulding's parapros...
  20. Yes, but a student has to go through 'required' high school courses that may be a complete waste of time. Why not have those students who already have the skill set for a high school graduate degree take what interests them at a nearby college? In all probability they will be more motivated to learn and go far further in their academic life. A lot of kids are simply not a good fit for high school, and they shouldn't have to spend thousands of hours listening to pointless lectures about subjects that aren't meaningful and relevant to their lives.
  21. There are many ways to reduce school expenses. Let me throw a couple more into the mix... A lot of kids in this day and age are self-guided learners. Many districts already have a 'virtual learning academy' that lets these kids learn at home. If this were more widely applied in Georgia, you would have far fewer overcrowding issues and lower operating costs. Cobb already has a version of this. I don't think this is the magic wand to solve the funding issues. However it would make a positive tangible difference on many of our students not to mention the financial bottom line of the coun
  22. There is a good place on Macland Rd. right near the Cobb/Paulding border. They have a lot of cars in the $500 to $700 down range.
  23. Let me know if you need any volunteers. I would be happy to help out.
