  1. Good feelings, vibes, and prayers coming your way...
  2. I remember traveling down some winding roads near Powder Springs in the mid-90's and finding a bar that raised mongooses on the side. Don't know if it was Paulding, Bartow or beyond. I just kept on traveling on that one laner and found myself in Tallapoosa.
  3. Wow this whole thing is WAY overdone. First off... The price for real estate is based on three simple criteria. 1) The salary of those in the market 2) The mortgage rate. 3) Supply The reason why the real estate market crashed and has remained in the gutter is because... #1 was ignored #2 was artificially low due to overseas support of the dollar. #3 was based on a false perception marketplace. But that's not the quicker here. The real eye opener comes from one salient fact. The real rate of return for house prices between 1890 and 1990 is... zero. This is ba
  4. I think too many of my neighbors had beans for dinner.
  5. Cliff notes version. A car that is.... 1) Conservatively driven 2) Well maintained 3) Given the highest quality parts and fluids 4) Garage kept (owner will keep it longer) 5) Unstressed (rpm's below 2500, light foot especially during warm-up.) 6) Little problems are repaired before they become big. 7) Over-engineered (In the early 90's Toyota, Honda, Mercedes and Volvo could all lay claim to this as far as sedans go. Now this is no longer the case.) Waxed at least twice a year (see number four) 9) Obeys local traffic laws (whenever practicable) and
  6. Whole Foods would be a revelation in Paulding. But I highly doubt that we would be getting one of those. Cobb only has 1 Harry's (owned by Whole Foods) and a few small independents. Nevertheless, it's hard for me to think of another chain store that would get Paulding 'noticed' than having a Whole Foods in that area.
  7. I know the family of the ex in this case. Cliff notes version... 1) She is a megalomaniac. Her ex-husband's nickname was 'Joe Average' and allegedly she cheated on him with both sexes. 2) The transition between teen pop diva and a more mainstream persona has completely backfired. 3) She hasn't had a hit album in 8 years. Her voice is absolutely superb. But the career and everything along with it is in an absolute tailspin. Very sad.
  8. Went there this afternoon as well. One of the folks who was working the meat department mentioned that they are moving him to a store on South Cobb Drive. I hope their other employees don't have to trek half way through Cobb for their work. Not a lot was one sale at the Kroger. To be frank, we usually get far better deals on the weekly closeouts and near expired foods. I do plan on revisiting the store when their vitamins and supplements hit the deep discounts. We'll see what happens. Kmart has nice people. The design of the store is straight out of the 1980's. I checked the prices of
  9. As a longtime PC/Mac enthusiast, I'll provide the cliff notes solution to this debate. There was a brief time when Apple did allow outside hardware firms to produce Mac clones. None of them were any good. This was primarily during the mid to late 1990's. When Steve Jobs came back to Apple one of the first things he did was get rid of the clones. The Apple OS / Windows / Linux debate is a worthless one for most consumers. 90+% of the programs most folks use are web based. Google Docs already accomplishes most of what consumers want out of a word processing and spreadsheet program. Blogg
  10. There is a fishing spot not too far away from my lot on Macland Road. Folks are out there all the time... right between Poplar Springs Rd. and Corner Rd. Hope this helps...
  11. Thank you both. I appreciate the kind remarks.
  12. I remember growing up in the 80's and 90's. Two hours of network news. Twenty-four hour a day news stations. Thousands of newspapers and magazines that were financially solvent. Then... The struggle. News is now so much quicker than 'the daily'. Most of today's events are scooped, blogged, and ranted far before they ever see a printed page or the network news. It's a challenge and an opportunity for today's network news programs. But then there's this. Every time I hear that theme, it brings me back to my freshman year of college. I would start the day early and have som
  13. Drove to about four places this afternoon. Came home. Played with the kids. Son went to Cub Scouts with wife. I played board games with my daughter. Wife comes back. They watch Narnia. I play on the computer. Help get the kids ready for bed... and here I am.
  14. I'm usually not one for the unsubstantiated claim. But my wife subscribes to a 'red alert' group that informs folks about deals that are available in the Cobb and Paulding area. A few of the folks there mentioned that the Kmart store on 278/92 is slated to close as well. I can't make that confirmation just yet. But who knows? If you hear of anything feel free to discuss it.
  15. I've always thought about studying organs. Just for the history and the authenticity of the sound through the ages. Here's a familiar tune for y'all!
  16. Awesome! I wish the little one a century's worth of success!
  17. Then asdf gave her sister a bodyslam, a leg drop, a sleeper hold, and the mandable claw!
  18. Extrovert, extrovert, extrovert... Your folks seem rather tame compared to the people I work with at the auctions. Former soldiers (of foreign wars), money launderers... actually come to think of it those two kind of go together. We pretty much have every type of success and/or reject you can think of. I know several guys who have literally saved their own skins in some brutal conflicts, and yet are the nicest people you would ever meet. A lot of former educators, corporate America drop-out's, former sports players... even a fellow who was a zoologist in the far east. But back
  19. Ok, I'm going to throw in a few points in here. Oil is an exceptionally complex commodity. Inflation is usually a minor ingredient in the recipe that is 'the cost of oil'. You also have to weigh in... 1) Cost of refining Shale oil in Canada today only becomes viable when the price of oil is approximately $80 or above. This may or may not change. The technology and energy needed to refine this oil will likely trend lower as times goes on. Perhaps. The same is true for offshore drilling. Brazil may now have reserves of over 100 billion barrels off their coast thanks to a recent dis
  20. I believe that having an extra layer of regulations and government in downtown Powder Springs is a huge hindrance towards development. If there would be any area that could be a good fit for restaurants and walkable entertainment, it would be that area. Instead my family goes to the Avenue... although my wife makes it a point to visit The Bookworm since she loves independent book stores.
  21. "If you or your spouse lost their income for 2+ years how long could you survive?" My wife and I happen to be frugal zealots. From the clothes we wear. To the appliances and the design of our home. We waste nothing and simply don't buy very much. If worse came to worse, we could probably put our kids through college without earning another plug nickel. Our gas/electric bill for each of the prior two months was less than $100 if that gives you any idea. "Do you think that the only way to insure having a job that pays a decent wage is to have a college degree? Did you go to college? Did
  22. Bored and mildly inspired... very mildly inspired. Powder Springs is such a unique case. I remember helping build the Habitat for Humanity houses in the southern part near Tapp Middle School back in the late 1990's. It seemed like a wonderful opportunity to make a lot of renters, owners. Now that part along with the homes south of Macland Road reminds me of a mini-Stone Mountain. A lot of well built homes; especially the older ones. But an unbelievably high level of renters and transients... and you have to go outside the area to find something to do. The suburbs there aren't real
