I think most men think - and most women too - that if anyone ought to be able to get a blow job, it would be the president of the United States. I mean, the King of Saudia Arabia has a frigging harem ... There is also an element in our culture of a the double standard in that there are many marriages that are marked by infidelities of one degree or another - and by more than just the man. Now the difference regarding Cosby. No one - male or female - respects or has any love for a rapist. Rape, btw, I've heard is not a sexual act, it is an act of violence and dominance. And

You surely can't build a house on it. If it blows a gasket, you can't take back the pollution ... you may be able to mitigate it and clean it up somewhat, but, to offer an example, if you had a pet buffalo (or dog) that was caught up in it and died as a result, it won't come back to life. Heck, if one of the workers building the thing run over your dog or let you cattle loose or even smash into the tree your great grandmother planted because he was drunk and killed the tree ... it is not coming back. It is change and that is the essence of eminent domain - enforced change dictated by the

I agree ... although it may be moot; at least as long as the oil price remains under about $70/bbl as tar-sand sourced oil is not feasible at that rate. However, when it comes to talking talk and actually walking, I have to assume that you are foursquare in favor of the exercise of imminent domain in furtherance of private economic development. Yep, this project actually fails without the exercise of eminent domain as not every landowner whose property will be used wants to participate. So, when I look back, I see folks like mrshoward being against the use of eminent domain for privat

Mike Rowe, still taking on the dirty jobs.

The NYTimes had an editorial about this issue just today. The title was "Solid South to rise again?" In the article Charles Blow related this story about race and party. I bring it up because I was discussing this with Post 2 Commissioner Todd Pownall yesterday when he stopped by. In that, I mentioned that back when folks were making the party switch ... and I was targeted by them ... I said that among their arguments was the notion that the Democratic Party was really the N-word party now and that is why I should change. Todd, of course, denied that he had any such feelings abo -
Are you contending that then VP Dick Cheney intentionally shot that man in the face? That hunting accident is one that comes to mind that most folks are aware. Personally, my best friend as a kid (12 years old) died as a result of playing with a gun. These stories are relatively common and tragic in every case. I'm sorry for your friend but if he was targeted for a kidnapping by an armed person, there is no certainty that he would be able to retrieve his weapon from its location before the criminal could respond. The sad part is that in a few of the cases of murder, the criminal may

Racial tolerance is, was and always will be a liberal pursuit and part of the liberal agenda. When liberalism was represented in the Republican party - and once the GOP was the leading party of progressives - it was a key theme. That it was professed by a governor in the south elected as a Democrat in the 1960s was a true mark of progress. The story goes that Jimmy Carter was able to defeat Governor Sanders because he invoked Racial intolerance as practiced by conservatives - actually worn in this analogy - is a lot like a Halloween costume. In the 50s and 60s conservatives in the south w

I don't recall having to call the police for protection from anything ever. Beyond that, do know that physics is your friend and a gun is not necessarily the best tool for self-defense. They think we should call the cops to clean up the bloody mess left after they draw down on each other and see who shoots first and most accurately because they know the one that does will be left to tell their 'version' of what happened including how they were the victims 'standing their ground.' I'm a great believer in the second amendment. I'll simply point out that the second amendment d

Be afraid - REALLY AFRAID ... we're running out of chocolate
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I'm surprised the Republicans haven't proposed banning chocolate because consumption of it tends to make people feel good - i.e. its mood altering properties and the fact that chocolate tends to provide a lift ... You know how they're usually a buzz kill and got us off on all that Law and Order stuff with that Law(breaker) and Order guy Spiro T. Agnew who said: Of course we now know that Agnew was the liar and a criminal that put us on the road to jailing more persons than any other country on the face of the earth. pubby -
Sounds like an admission to unproven speculation based on prejudice and bluff to cover the assertion by a bet. As far as the race, i did call the newsroom in Milwaukee directly and there is no speculation as to the race of the shooters in this case. Indeed, given the utter senselessness of the shooting, it would not only be hard but irresponsible to seek to identify the race of the suspects much less try and assign a racial motive to the shooting. It would be just as irresponsible to say that the grandpa in the case was a union guy (probably) who was the target of union violence becau

Yes, and with west Africa the main are where cocoa leaves and plantations exist, the role of ebola may be at least in part responsible. (West Africa is responsible for 70 percent of the world's cocoa bean supply.) However, industry leaders say the shortfall - 70,000 metric tons this year on top of a long string of earlier shortfalls - and with projections that with increasing demand, by 2030 the shortfall could multiply to 2 million metric tons. At the very least, the ebola outbreak in west Africa will complicate imports from the region. So, with this information at hand, are you fo -

I think you're absolutely right. Fear, I fear, is not much of an inspiration for rational thought. It is however a great motivation for spending a couple of hundred dollars with the gun manufacturers on something that you'll most probably will never use for its intended purpose (self-defense) and is highly likely to come back to bite you either in a time of depression or in a tragedy caused by the misuse of the weapon by another. Hence, if you believe in statistics and numbers, you would shun the unnecessary cost as quickly as an Artic Eskimo would a freezer salesman. pubby

I actually don't object to a person having a concealed weapon provided they treat its presence with the same sense of shame they have of their privates. (It really is none of my business and I really don't want to see it.) Open carry is, or ought to be, a fashion statement associated with a uniform and is at its best when accented by a shiny medallion. Overall, guns are dangerous tools like chainsaws, cars and turkey friers. While it is okay to have a chainsaw, guns everywhere remind me of that recent commercial where the kids in the horror movie go hide-behind a wall of the device

The only reason that solar is considered more expensive is because, unlike the trash you pay $15/ton to dispose of at the dump, the power companies are subsidized as they pump millions of tons of carbon dioxide into the air effectively externalizing the costs of the operation. Given that solar doesn't create that waste-stream, it only appears to be more expensive. Actually, solar would be a positive investment for homeowners if Georgia, unlike many states, would reimburse the installer for the power they contribute to the grid at the same rate per KWH as the homeowner pays for power he co

The issue of being offended is the point here. First, I am offended. If it were just stupidity - a cable show of teenagers in a basement making stupid - that would just be stupid and I would easily pass it by as I do this show now. Why make the point? First, it really isn't just this particular program, although it may be something like the straw that broke the camel's back ... it is the list of programs - all pseudoscience called infotainment that only pretend to provide information but instead use what little information they provide like the tune from the pipe of the pied piper t

I'm totally offended by this 'discovery channel special' ... and Disney as a media producer. It is more than 'just the money' that drives this, IMO - although that seems to be the take of Slate in this article. If you wonder why folks 'distrust' science and basically distrust institutions, it is because they're gamed and lied to by people whose primary purpose in life is to pick your pocket. Ultimately, these corporations are playing the role of the Pied Piper and their purpose is lead the confused millions to run right off the cliff into the ocean. pubby
