  1. I had not been following this incident that closely. What I didn't know is that the particular tactic - the choke hold - was prohibited by the NYPD. While not a state law - it was an administrative policy - the violation of that stated policy should have made the death that occurred as a result of its violation an incident that you gotta tell to the judge - i.e. indict. Actual guilt or innocence then should be up to the court. I will also amend my pointing out that white people sometimes riot for rather crazy things like winning the superbowl or a college football coach being fired
  2. So, when RR, GHWB, Clinton and GWB all turned a blind eye (along with RN and GF) going back to the 1970s and didn't even spend money to properly patrol the border as well as not enforcing the hiring laws, they were aiding and abetting drug dealers? That you're still living in the past (2006) when there were literally hoards coming across and appear to be totally unaware that infiltration is down to the pre-1970 level just establishes your concerns as a form of ethnocentric demagoguery. I think we've pretty much done that, would be my response. The why is because the trends show gro
  3. Sorry, you're going to have to wait until either the Braves win the World Series or the Falcons' the superbowl. To see how I can say that, read this: 11 Stupid Reasons white peole have rioted pubby PS: My favorite is when Joe Paterno was fired because he tried to coverup for Sandusky ... and his supporters were so outraged they rioted when the board of reagents in Pennsylvania fired him for his complicity in child molestation. (Aren't you proud of what white people riot over???)
  4. I understand your disdain at the idea that people demonstrate but I saw a piece the other day about the crazy stuff that white people riot over these days. Here's one from the archives: Here are few more: I'm really proud of my race for rioting over the firing of Joe Paterno who was outed because he protected the child molester. Talking about moral superiority. The article on Raw Story notes there is a long history of behaviors being depicted through the prism of people’s skin color. For instance, during Hurricane Katrina people of all races desperately searched f
  5. Obviously you don't. I never suggested that business owners paid off the grand jury ... rather that it was pretty predictable given the circumstances that there would be raucous demonstrations in Ferguson and that select business owners in the likely path could have paid, not the grand jury, but arsonists with near certainty on the part of both that the fires set would be blamed on the rioters. Obviously if you didn't grasp the not to subtle difference, you don't know me. (It was a foregone conclusion that the DA would do what he could to assure that there would be no indictment in Ferguson
  6. I think the issue is not nearly as clear, dire or even trending they way you conservatives imagine. Your view of what is going on is just distorted. So while it is true that there were about 100,000 youths, mostly from central America, seeking relief at our borders, the plain truth is that the largest changes going on - much of the world's economic growth is occurring outside the US meaning that more people are staying there. Indeed, that growth is happening there and is rapid is Wolfensohn's primary point. People go to where the growth and opportunity are. Millions from below the b
  7. So by that, I assume you are seeking to draw a distinction between conservatives based on whether they want to build a big fence. pubby

"These are not trivialchanges — they are tectonic changes in the way the planetworks. In my generation we didn't have to think about it. Weknew we were a rich country." But today's students will have
  9. Lies, damn lies and statistics: The key to understanding the material your present on journalism.org is to know when it was and the nature of the coverage. Most of the stories reported were 'horse-race' reports and if Obama was leading in the polls, that was counted as a positive story for Obama and a negative story for Romney. The report was for the period basically from mid August 2012 through Oct. 21, 2012. There were some notable statistics - there was a 40 point differential between Fox negative stories on Obama and positive stories (12% positive that were probably poll re

  12. Just saw a piece on CNN that was based on this article on Politico.com about a father whose 21 year old son was DUI, unarmed, disruptive and dead. The 21 year old, of course was shot and killed by the Kinosha Wisconsin police and the shooting was, well, fully justified ... the police and the DA said so. That is exactly the case here. Of course it was a white cop and a white kid and there wasn't much to the outcry as it was ten years ago. Part of what drives the attitude the media and, especially the black community have, is that this trend is escalating. What exactly are
  13. I'm not closing or hiding posts of news or events. It is a matter of people ... people who are not 'friends' but who share with each other here because on other sites, well you've got to be friends ... who just aren't posting. I think some felt intimidated by snarky posters who were overly critical of things said (as per the nature of this post saying forget it.) Heck, people just have to see how frigging much crap I take to say it makes them uncomfortable 'cause if those folks can do that to me, why what could they do to 'me'. pubby
  14. I've checked the site with several browsers and reviewed my latest report on the 'service' I have and there are no corroborating reports. If there are other reports of similar behaviors I'll have the folks do another security scan. pubby
  15. The gun was fired and it hit the kid in the truck ... in the thumb. He took off running. I don't know why he stopped after running 50 yards, turned and charged Wilson Wilson did say that he fired a shot ... although the way he structured it in his statement, it was a 30 seconds after Brown had started booking. There were six shots of 12 expended that didn't hit the kid. To hear Wilson state it, all remaining ten shots were taken after he turned and charged. If that were the case, I think the statement would be more clear about the shots although he does note, in the 'secon
  16. Justice is not served if the grand jury was manipulated. It was broadcast by Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC that the assistant DA instructing the grand jurors on the law surrounding the case lied as to the legal limits of the officer's authority. There used to be, throughout the south and in many other states, state laws that allowed officers to use deadly force to prevent the escape of a person suspected of committing a felony. I think we all agree that the kid after the conflict at Wilson's SUV, took off running and had run 50 yards - half the length of a football field - before tur
  17. I'm not crazy and I'm not all over the map. the point was simple. Formal education is failing. We learn our personalities from our parents but our acculturation comes from our peers (hence the insignificance of parents). Since that is also the role of our formal public education, the SCOTUS decision requiring people who are arrested be read their Miranda rights is an indictment of our educational system. It is obvious I should limit the length of sentences for your benefit. More complex structures obviously confuse you. pubby
  18. Yeah, sure ... Read this. Out of 162,000 federal cases brought before a federal grand jury, only 11 did not result in an indictment. Typically the only attorney present is the district attorney. If the DA softballs the interviews in front of the grand jury (like he did in this case) he telegraphs that he 'believes the witness.' The grand jury is also an informal gathering. for all we know (and I'm sure some in Ferguson suspect) the DA, before introducing a video or transcript of a witness who was critical of Officer Wilson's role - maybe even saying the kid had his hands up - could sa
  19. The statistics on illicit drug use among whites and blacks shows that there is very little difference in terms of the percentage of abusers. What the statistic also show is that blacks, unlike whites, tend to end up behind bars as a result. The reality is that there are folks who, because of their skin color, the make and model of vehicle and, yes their geographic coordinates, are considered more suspicious than other people. Some call it profiling, some racial profiling and others just driving while black. The point being, if you are a cop and look more closely at a certain demog
  20. That's the idea, yathink? It is to think ... out of the box. Not being constrained by the mainstream conservative narrative ... because if you can begin to think out of the box, maybe things will - as in the movie Pleasantville - become colorful and real. But I do have to ask you as a white southerner, does it make you feel any safer that the police can shoot and kill unarmed people even if they aren't black? I mean, what if the victim in this was a 5-foot 4-inch 108lb pansy who just had a temper and smart mouth. Would Wilson, at 6-4 and 210, still be justified in shooting the pers
  21. I suppose you could go with my other 'conspiracy theory' and suggest the preacher did the burn because he'd get the insurance which would rebuild the structure and so avoid having to go the congregation for replacement of that old leaky roof ... And, I suppose that kind of assertion would let you backhandedly suggest that the KKK group there in St. Louis is all bluff ... which they may well be. But still, as protectors of the traditions of the real 'south' they did make the threats. Still, racism is over isn't it? We all live in this post racist society where ... was it you talking about

  23. It will be fixed here with the hour. It really didn't do much damage. The lower ball joint popped, the tire skewed out and the lower control arm landed on the pavement. I backed up about five feet, which probably put some scratched on the lower arm and chewed off a little rubber on the tire, but not enough to throw the tire out of balance or compromise the parts. I have roadside assistance (a tow) on my car insurance so I had it taken to a shop I though could get it out yesterday (they didn't) but it will have new upper and lower ball joints (both sides) and an oil change by early th
  24. Arsonists - fire bugs - are emotionally and psychologically disturbed persons. I think this fire some three miles from the rest of the fires and the history of threats toward the pastor and his stand regard Michael Brown establish those doing the torching are probably not 'protesters.' So, if there was a fire bug in the crowd, what makes you think that on a night like Monday night, they'd stop at the Church in their sickness? It would be too good an opportunity for 'night to remember.' If the authorities in ST. Louis are competent at all, they will be investigating the fires lookin
