  1. Person shot at home at 465 Watt's Road, just yards from US278 in Hiram Gun shot leaves 46 year old Hiram mandead; brother arrested On June 29, 2015 at approximately 7:36 p.m., the City of Hiram Police Department responded to a person shot call at 465 Watts Road. Upon arrival, officers found one person deceased from an apparent gun shot wound to the chest. Preliminary findings suggest that this was a domestic related incident between siblings. The suspect was apprehended as he attempted to flee the scene and is currently in custody. The victim has been identified as Joseph Norman Duguay, W/M,
  2. It is politicians who are responsible. They act out to impress constituencies that contribute cash to campaigns in support of narrow ideologies. They basically abdicate their leadership - they stand for nothing - and instead tell lobbyists to write what they want because they believe it is their job to deliver the goods for the folks who 'put them in office.' The point I think we both would agree upon is these kinds of politicians are the wrong kind to have in office. pubby
  3. I found this bit interesting. The St. Louis police chief and prosecutor are actively looking for federal law involvement in cases surrounding guns because of the increased gun rights granted by the Missouri state legislature is ending up with criminals - like those shooting at officers - going free. The fallout from Amendment 5, which inserted 'inalienable right" in the state constitution to have and bear arms was used to overturn a conviction by a felon of gun possession charges. From the St. Louis Post Dispatch pubby
  4. This joke may not be funny but the other side of the nullity game is that electing judges is not going to be the answer ... at least in my opinion. I say that because given the judicial approach to political campaigns - you would never see a judicial candidate campaigning on the issues you raise here. It is just not going to happen because judges, by definition, seek the maximum degree of discretion in the way they operate and that means they say little of substance in political campaigns. They've even lobbied to give themselves the appearance of incumbency even when a new candidate is
  5. While full legalization and regulation of pot may be on the horizon, the approach for harder more debilitating drugs is decriminalization. Two things ... First is that there will always be people becoming dependent on opiates of one sort or another and just as there is a market for non-prescribed but other wise 'legal drugs' ... there will be a market for smuggled or illicit drugs if there is a way to profit from them. Minimizing the profit from the trade is probably the best strategy for minimizing the trade altogether. Second, because there will always be people who suffer from add
  6. I think we are quite aware that some groups and individuals seek to game the system. I first became aware of this when the sugar industry conducted a study that caused cyclimates removal from diet drinks. How? Well there is a rule if a product can be shown to cause cancer - even a little cancer under the most absurd circumstances, the product will be banned (unless of course it is cigarettes.) The trick was they fed rats the equivalent of 2000 diet drinks a day for two years and two percent developed some form of cancer. But in the context of the environment do know that in 1972, peo

  8. It is not a bad mistake. I just would remind you there is a "news forum" now ... used to be county-wide news ... and then there is the cafe. What may not be suitable for the cafe but is news is for the ones that may go vapidly partisan ... but we hope won't (actually I would like to see the vapidly partisan parts simply split and sent to the political forum leaving the more newsy bits behind.) I know it is tightrope walking but hey, thats why you guys get the big bucks. pubby

The work session was long and included the Public Hearing onthe Budget on which a host of persons commented. Of note to some was the uncontested appointment of formerDemocratic Party Chairman Mike Scott

  11. The closest thing I could find was this 'huntsman' spider. Apparently the males have six legs and the females, eight. That the front two legs (of the eight) were adapted for another use (holding down the female and squeezing her??? ) apparently is not too uncommon among spiders. The huntsman, btw, doesn't spin webs but instead hunts other insects and is apparently particularly fond of cockroaches. pubby
  12. Amazing in Motion - Slide from ToyotaGB on Vimeo. From BLOOMBERG BUSINESS: Watch out, world. Toyota is heading back to the future. The automaker has hinted it’s looking into flying cars. Now its Lexus luxury brand has actually built a working model of a hoverboard. That’s right, an actual working hoverboard. It’s real, but not for sale. Yet. The board uses liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and magnets, according to the Lexus website. The technology is already zooming around Toyota's home country. A Japanese railway company last year set a new world speed record u
  13. I'm not sure what you're asking. My impression is that the scanner forum archive here, which has fallen into disuse, is open for review. If you are asking if citizens can obtain, for instance, 911 calls from the SO, they are available under open records laws. You'd need to contact the SO with your request including the date and time and subject of the call. If you are asking about a third party web site that has been archiving radio transmissions; you'll have to ask them. pubby

I'd check with the Sheriff's office. I think they may have inmates referubish bikes to give to needy kids at Christmas. pubby
  15. If you have the idea that this is only based on the Pope's acknowledgement that global climate change is a problem caused by mankind, you need to read more. This document is an eye opener and an inspiring read ... and I'm only about a quarter of the way through it.
  16. I don't know, I let some folks to pretend to be knowledgeable when they are not... The point of providing the anonymity afforded by handles - I don't see you using your real name - is that people can present themselves in the way they are comfortable. If we required names and full identities for everyone, particularly as the time we started this venture, few - especially in Paulding - would have had the gut or gumption to stand up in the public square and speak. Heck, considering the number of boycotts on the various things, I'd say that plausible anonymity is a down right God Send. Heck
  17. Considering your other opinions, it is good to know that you think it round. It suggests that your conservatism is rooted at least in the period after 1,600. I would ask, btw, whether your intention once you get your degree, is to go into HR in the government or private sector? pubby
  18. One of the most conservative institutions on the face of the earth, the Roman Catholic Church, issued this past week an encyclical saying what Peaches said and even what TP said. The oil industry hired the same propagandists that the tobacco industry hired to muddle the public perception that cigarettes were an extreme health hazard. The bottom line, as corporate entities, both the tobacco industry and the oil industry have shown by their actions that they care only about this quarters' profits and have NO concern about human life. Hell, throw in the arms industry and a few more and

  21. Let me decline, TP ... Here's why. When I look and see five different topics all without a response and a link to a youtube video off-site and little comment ... I recall that I've asked you to be less prolific. Since the topics appeared to be different, I figured it was appropriate to call it rambling. I would encourage you to learn how to post your videos so that they show up here. BTW: That means going to the address line in the youtube and copying the full URL ... not the one that says, www.youtu.be (it will say youtube.com ... in the address line.) pubby
  22. I think it just as important a question to ask would be if this was the 1950s, would they both be thrown in jail for miscegenation ... or maybe whether the lawyer for the black husband might be able to argue 'entrapment.' When I was trying to figure out how to spell miscegenation, I ran across this etymology of the term. It is hilarious. Oh those dirty politicians ... remarked Richard Grant upon hearing the dirty trick that the Democrats of that era pulled on the Republicans. Who knew that Republicans of that era were in favor of blending of the races. pubby
  23. I'm not sure but I think that Colbert seems to be coming out for Donald Trump for President. Certainly he spoofed Trumps' announcement down to the promise that he wouldn't ride a bicycle but when you consider that Colbert, who starts as host of the Late Show in September, will want the Donald to visit, the presentation was not a bridge burner. Indeed, IMO, it wasn't as over the top as Trump's actual announcement. pubby
