  1. To each their own, Dr. Sears. I prefer to exhaust reason and attempts at positive reinforcement before resorting to heavy handed tactics. Of course, this is also one of your "poster not the post" opinions. Merry Christmas!
  2. There are times to be a dictator and times to be a diplomat -
  3. My son has had the highest GPA in his school for the last 3 years. I'm not worried about that. He really doesn't watch much TV, and I do have rules. He gets an hour a night (8-9) and then bedtime. He only gets to play wii on the weekends - and I'll probably keep the wii downstairs (since we do play it as a family). Looks as if the vast majority of folks do allow their kids TV.
  4. My SS has them...can't wait to waste money on fixing those in a couple years.
  5. NONE?! Oh come on now...get creative! Surely you have an ultrasound picture that you can turn into a nice keepsake? Or a scrapbook? Go to CVS and get an album and put one together with notes on how those moments made you feel. Coupons are always a good gift. Head to Blockbuster and buy some used movies, popcorn and get a gift card to a Longhorn or something and give him a post baby "date night" basket. Take one of the ties he never wears and you and little A go at it with your craft supplies.
  6. You know AJ, I used to feel just like you. I get lavish gifts for Christmas even thought we have a $100 rule. So, he gives them to me as New Years or Thanksgiving presents. It used to make me so uncomfortable, because I can't get him these kinds of thing, plus, he doesn't need them! But I had to remind myself that I MUCH prefer to give then receive, and that's probably the case with my honey too. Sometimes, "thank you" is all you need to worry about.
  7. He gets an hour of TV in MY bed, so I figured 'what's the difference'? Hopefully this will just encourage him to stay in his bed. I'm trying to "big boy" his room, but I don't want to be making him grow up too fast either. Funny - we have 3 TVs in the house, only HIS is a flat panel! lol! Shows you how much time we spend watching TV!
  8. We stay at the Marriott Times Square, but I've also stayed at the Ritz Central Park. Since we live there, we only stay overnight if we plan to drink. I prefer the Marriott because of location, but we only go to shop and go to shows - so this location is prime. Both are very nice. I fly into Newark, it's easier and it's just over the bridge. McSorely's is a must see! Of course, Times Square. The park is beautiful. Tavern is a good place to have a drink - just keep in mind that it's over priced and the staff sucks, but it's a "I've been there" thing. If you like shopping, make sure you hit
  9. Do your kids have a TV in their room? What age do you think that it's okay to put a TV in your child's room? I have developed the terrible habit of letting my 7.5 year old sleep with me...as such, I need to get him into his own room. So, for Christmas I thought that I'd make his room into more of a "big boy" room. So, I got him a TV for it. Now, I'm having second thoughts. Anyone have some ways that they got their kids out of their bed?
  10. Well, I'd be leaving a career, which has me concerned. How hard is it to re-enter the work force? We don't have to worry financially about a single income, but how did you handle spending habits? I'm a bit of a spendster and I like my privacy - not very concerned about this piece, but I would love to hear how you've set "boundaries". Are any of you "room moms" or very active in the school? How busy does that keep you? Were any of your kids in private vs. public? Did you find yourselves feeling like "dinner had to be on the stove by the time hubby got home"?
  11. who has made the transition from career to sahm? what challenges did you have? How do you keep busy? How do you manage finances? Do you work part time? Edited to correct typos from posting from my phone!
  12. The headliners aren't the best part of JF...alligator pie and fais do do is!! Next year, there's always next year...
  13. ACK! After every.person.I.know. posting this on Facebook...I looked it up. LAWD! WIDESPREAD PANIC! Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin, MMJ, MULE, Derek Trucks AND Kenny Wayne... RBB and Buckwheat Zydeco (one of my favs!), and all the regular players of the NOLA scene. Second weekend is definitely the weekend to be there!! Did I mention Van Morrison, one of the greatest artists of all time! Ever! On the planet! I'm praying that 2011 brings back Paul Simon! I love NOLA! Yet...no wannee or roo announcements yet?!?!
  14. My fellowship group and I had a social and we played this game that is like charades...only it's electronic and is also a little like hot potato. There is a timer and you get a word and your team has to guess it and you can't have it in your hands when the time goes off. WHAT IS IT CALLED?! I can't find it on TRU!
  15. Jazzfest 2008 But, alas, I will be in Spain for 2010, which is fine since PJ jumped the shark a looooooong time ago. Have fun!
  16. Great points. I believe that you are able to terminate your own pregnancy by any means that you'd like...but your last question is a great one.
  17. Is she girly? google "pink tools" soooo much cuteness!
  18. This is plain disturbing. http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/fetus-found-in-gift-241417.html SAN JUAN, Texas — A south Texas couple put an aborted 7-month-old fetus in a gift box under a Christmas tree after they were unable to flush the remains down a toilet, authorities alleged Monday. Ruby Lee Medina, 31, and Javier Gonzalez, 37, of Mission, have been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Bond was set Monday at $20,000 each.
  19. WOW WOW WOW!! The season was so slow...but then, WOW!
  20. Best gift of all is the Lord giving us new life. Congrats!
  21. Hey there. That was me. Here it is. I ordered it and it's VERY cute. http://www.uncommongoods.com/item/item.jsp?source=family&itemId=16729
  22. Did anyone get in? I have a question for that forum on a procedure that I have to have done this week. TIA.
  23. This is BS. Fig leaves were added by the Catholic church. You can also read about how the catholic church DEFILED some of the most beautiful reniassance sculpture that we have with their stupid fig leaves. There was nothing more sad than walking through the louvre and seeing this vandalism. The hebrew texts speaks of God giving animals for clothes...for warmth and protection most likely. The bible frowns on lust, not nudity.
