George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, murder or self defense?
LPPT replied to ihaveadog's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I read a lot of the stories, a lot I dismissed, I focused on the 911 tapes, the testimony of the girl on the phone with him and the backgrounds of both men. I also took into account that the parents didn't immediately start screaming about a racial profile, they ask for help after more facts came to life. I have been scanning the articles for facts and completely dismissing the gasoline of the Black Panthers and the protest along with editorials I am seeing. The facts are going to come out because the parents ask for further investigation. I don't care if you arrest 200 people a week fo -
The thing is as long as you are white, it will never occur to you to wonder if you are stopped for the color of your skin, or if the police didn't investigate because of your color. You don't have to question and that is a fact of life, granted much is based on statistics and I understand what LE deals with on that. Bottom line we can't allow the innocent to suffer for it. This can not be a black versus white thing, it has to be about right and wrong.

That is the point, Mr. Zimmerman assumed that the kid was a thief, he was walking home from the store with skittles and tea. It is not the same as people on your property. We all have the right to walk the street, Mr. Zimmerman felt he had the right to say who walked the street and who could come and go accosted his authority came from the gun he carried and his overblown ego. I understand that we now have issues because of media involvement, the first issue was a lack of proper investigation by authorities. They simply took this man's word, and yeah I think that was a racial issue.

Had it been me and I had pepper spray, Mr. Zimmerman would have gotten a face full of it. All the kid had was his hands and he was in his rights to do whatever necessary to stop this man from detaining him, which from the 911 tapes was Mr. Zimmerman's intentions. Mr. Zimmerman thought he was some kind of cop and that he had the authority to pursue and detain this kid. Nobody told the kid that, he was defending himself from this man. Mr. Zimmerman made a mistake, got an a** kicking for it. He would not have touched this young man had he not had the gun, the gun was his back up for exactly what

Mr. Zimmerman was in the wrong from the moment he pursued this young man after being told not to. It was beyond disgusting that his claims of self defense were taken at face value. There would have been no need to defend himself had he done what he had been told. The idea that the kid defending himself was never considered was also disgusting. If the black community had not come out for this kid, it would have been swept under the rug as another black kid attacking a white man and getting what he deserved. It is just so easy to believe the worse about a black kid you don't even investigate it

As a 50 year old white women I am going to put myself in this kids place. I am walking home from a neighbors house at dark. Some man comes walking quickly towards me, I walk faster because I am getting nervous, the guy walks faster, maybe yells at me to stop. Not Hi, I was wondering, but firmly tells me to stop. At this point I am getting very nervous about why this man is demanding I stop, against my better judgement I do stop. He then ask me what I am doing there, I ask him who he is, If he claims he is neighborhood watch I am wondering if he really is and if it is true what is he up to. I

Going out to the store instead of being at home should not be a reason to be at risk anywhere in this country. So your 16 year old bi-racial grandson can not be out on the street after dark, because maybe some people think black males out on the street after dark are involved in criminal activity? What if your otherwise great kid decides to walk to a neighbors after dark and loses his life because he runs from some big white man that is confronting him, because he is black and assumed to be up to no good. My son and his friends go all sorts of places and do things after dark, it has never

There are stories all over the internet saying to look deeper in the kids past to find some justification for what Zimmerman did, maybe the kid had a fight at school, as in Zimmerman did society a favor, it makes me sick. He didn't do anyone a favor, look what he did with full support of a local police department. It is beyond disgusting all the potential snuffed out because of an over zealous police wanna be. I could just see him strutting the days after the incident over what he did until it hit the fan. This incident only creates more fear and anger in the black community, the message is

The 2am was an example I used with a hoody to demonstrate what makes people suspicious, this actually happened much earlier in the evening. What people don't get is that it is perfectly ok to scrutinize this situation as possibly racially motivated especially when it comes to the inaction of the police department. When you look at the stats they tell you that young black men are compromised by the actions of others. We have to offer protection to the young black men that are staying out of trouble, educating themselves, we can't stand by and let them fall victim to what others of thei

It actually does give me insight to both sides, and the first hand knowledge of how much it can effect every aspect of ones life. Everything from work, school, were you eat, what you wear, even recreational activities. The Black Panthers exist for only one reason, not because their skin is black and they are genetically predisposed tho behaving in that manner. They exist because of racism on both sides. I deal with my own racism daily, internal struggles against how I was raised, things that I intellectually know are not true, but yet the thoughts are still there. I know it is import

Now you have me confused, I thought that Zimmerman was following the young man according to what he told 911. the operator ask him not to pursue the young man and he did it anyway. I don't doubt for a minute he confronted the kid, ask him what he was doing and tried to detain him. In my opinion that puts Zimmerman in the wrong from the get go, I would also be willing to bet that the gun on his hip made him feel very confident when confronting a 160lb 6ft black kid. The kid had the right to walk the streets to go anywhere he wanted too, he was not breaking the law, Zimmerman claims he was hig

This link goes in to detail about Zimmerman's past. It's not pretty and explains some of the suspicions about the accusations against Zimmerman being racist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Trayvon_Martin

I still don't understand where this man had the authority to question or detain this young man. That really bothers me. Most men aren't going to take much crap from a man that walks up and does that when he doesn't have a badge. I should of occurred to Mr. Zimmerman that anybody could take an exception to that and he could possibly end up in an altercation and have to use his gun. He more or less decided on his own that the kid was up to no good and took matters into his own hands. People of course are wondering if he wasn't arrested because the police understood his motives, a black perso

I just read the transcripts from the 911 call, and the girlfriends testimony along with a few articles about the teen and Zimmerman. My opinion is still the same, that there were some racial components but not especially the motivation. Zimmerman had appointed himself as neighborhood watch, took a few classes with the Sheriffs office and proceeded to play policeman. This kid had every right to be nervous about a civilian questioning and detaining him. He probably got somewhat belligerent questioning the guys authority and decided to keep walking, Mr Zimmerman probably decided to detai

For one thing, I work very little in the office, that consist of Pubby and I. I work with businesses in the community, I have black, Asian, Indian and Hispanic clients. I have lived in many diverse communities,it is a non issue for me. But if you want to get personal, I grew up in Memphis Tn. where I got a belly full full of racism which is still alive and doing well there. I earned my stripes in the trenches and I won't back down, I call a spade a spade. Trashy, lazy and ignorant comes in all sizes and colors. I have heard cracker too, it doesn't justify anything.

Just really, you ever been the only white person in the room, the neighborhood? All you see on tv is black shows with black people, every magazine it's all black folks. Every time you need a professional they are black, you might get tired of seeing black every where you look and your world is all white. How about the only doll you can by your child is black? You say the real world is not that way, well it one time it was. White folks had a white world and it was all good, who could be offended by that? Who would dare be offended by that? So now a black world is offensive? to whom?

I remember well, the people in my life that gave me unconditional love, and weren't afraid to bust my chops when the energy and hormones tried to take over. I love my boys, that is why I sit on the porch until 2 am every once in awhile and listen to them. They can turn to me when they need someone to make the hard decisions, after all they are just babies. It takes awhile before they can take the reins fully. I have always had a soft spot for teens, it is easy to love a baby and take care of it. Teens are harder, but they are still children.
-
I wasn't gonna say that out loud, thank you
-
No sense in asking teens why they do anything, it's all hormones and energy. It is up to the adults to know this and keep them alive and safe until they don't have quite as much of both, And of course to love them, really love them, they understand love, because nobody outgrows love. Dang I just heard the 4 wheeler again, gonna be some granny pj love now.

We had a little teen excitement over here tonight, called my son home and told him the facts, steer clear. All of them know if Ms.P hits the culdesac in her PJ's nuttin good is gonna come of it. He went back out there and it got real quiet real fast. They are quietly sitting around their little fire, Trouble left in a hurry over here. My kids better not get hurt by some fool actin up, they are all my kids when they hit the sac over here. I will grab um up by their necks and we will have a come to Jesus meeting

You are right Lucky it is not Mayberry anymore, drugs and alcohol are at the bottom of almost all of it. Not saying for sure in this case, but look at that weekly magazine.

Here it is and it was incredibly good for 15.99. 1/2 of it is in the fridge, I have never gotten a bad piece of meat from Rodney's! Sides can be subjective depending on what you are use to, but meat is always about quality. The steak specials and even seafood change from week to week at Rodneys. If he can't get a meat supplier that gives him the quality at the right price, he simply will not serve it to customers. Rodney and I kid around about certain dishes and how to prepare them, but bottom line when it comes to meat, he is not kidding. He will send a supplier packing with low quality me
