  1. Why do I keep thinking that that same logic can be applied to conditions like heart disease, don't eat red meat and we won't have to pay for your heart disease, you have a choice to eat artery clogging foods, yet you do it any way and think that an insurance company has to pay for your meds and bypasses. One of the biggest issues was that socialized medicine would lead to rationing of health care. So right out of the box someone conceives a way to ration healthcare based on lifestyle. Eating red meat and other fatty foods is not a guaranteed right under the constitution. I am not ha

The rumors are flying about the fact that valedictorian and other high profile high achieving students are having influence on how this is being treated. I don't see it that way, I see our officials being backed into a corner with parents and students that don't respect the administration, no matter what they do they are too harsh or too lenient. This is a perfect example if you don't come down hard enough it will happen again and again, if you come down hard enough to put a stop to it you could ruin young lives over a prank. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, for the most part the aut
  3. I was still in high school when girls started having the procedure done, you would hear whispers that so and so had one, and it would be followed by of course because what kind of women would be able to carry a child next to her heart for 9 months then give it away to a stranger. Even as a teen I recognized a new type of morality forming in the minds of people. You know you never see a women or girl pregnant then the baby disappears anymore. They use to homes for girls and women so they could do the right thing and not have to face questions from their peers and community. So in some wa
  4. I had the issue a few times last week, I checked a few times if my ringer was turned on because I showed missed calls and the phone showed the ringer was on. Yesterday and today I made a few calls, it showed connected but it was dead never really connected. I probably need to do updates on it.
  5. On what planet I have heard of it, and I suppose it might be what a good parent would do based on past stats about losing ones innocence on prom night. It never occurred to me to go because I kinda hoped my kids wouldn't be so common as to contrive there loss of innocence on prom night
  6. I am going to get a do over very soon and the stakes will be higher, I need to embrace this lesson and take it to heart. I appreciate everyone just talking with me while I process it.
  7. Thanks for every one's support I was caught off guard at a very crucial moment and I know that I made a mistake that will come back to haunt me because it is a situation that require more of these types of situations. I learned the hard way that trying to stop things from hitting the fan only piles stuff up deeper behind the fan. I am mostly disappointed because I failed myself by not doing what I know was moral and right. As I said my son saw me do it, he was right there, I think he lost faith in my ability to stand strong against weakness, the kind of weakness that ultimately creates more

Not sure what you have heard, there are a lot of so&so said, some were caught on video tape painting on the school and some where not. This makes a huge difference in who you can prosecute for what. It may come down to that when charges are pressed and punishment being handed out.

Kids are so full of it, they think they can control their world with their childish prattle, please I have had 4 of them I love it because believe it or not people are listening and watching everything being said and every time they hear that kids think it is a joke, and the you ain't gonna do nuthin to us, the closer they get to finding just what it will do to stop some of the parents and kids laughing and scoffing at a prank. Yes some parents supposedly thought it was funny, some kids think they were stupid for getting caught and they can pull a better prank, some kids kept their scho

So you are ok with charging them with a felony? I don't think it is definitely the right or wrong thing to do, like I said the objective is to stop it from ever happening again, so that may be the answer. We will live with those consequences when it come to the kids future so is it worth what it will accomplish?
  11. I want to discuss making the hard decisions. We have had a couple of threads the last few days about making the hard decisions. A man made a difficult decision to kill a dog that he felt was dangerous. We assume that he believed that. We have discussed death and how people handle that and make decisions. We now have a group of kids were others have to make a hard decision. I am personally in a family situation were I needed to make a difficult decision. I have been the family matriarch of my family going on 5 years now. I accepted the mantle knowing that I would be looked to when the

There is a process that has to be gone through before punishment is decided. You can't and should not make knee jerk decisions, especially as serious as this is. It's not just punishment for these kids, but making sure you discourage this behavior in the future. More than likely charging them with a felony would achieve that, but ruining their futures over spray paint needs serious consideration. If I were a parent I would be pressuring my kid to turn in everyone that was there for the simple reason the restitution will be less on the individual parents that have to pay. I think kids sh

You don't want the option on the table of parents paying the kids out, they comply with the punishment for level one or they fight it in court as a felony. Orange jump suits don't allow them to forget what they did day in and day out, your freedom of what you wear and what you do on the weekends is gone, just as though you were in prison. No pretty dresses or tuxes to be worn to prom. They must wear them every time they are on campus or participating in school activities off campus, this means football games, cheerleaders cheering in them if they are convicted.

I think you also make it clear that should it happen next year extra curricular activities will go away. We will have a lot of little tattletales running around next year

I am not for cancelling events, even for the culprits, they can attend in their orange jump suits. I think vending machines is enough to create some unforgettable peer pressure while not punishing the innocent severely. The parents can make up for the lost revenue as part of the restitution. But yes having all the students holding the the culprits responsible for some discomfort counter acts a lot of what we are hearing about they should not have gotten caught, we won't get caught next year blah blah blah. This sends the message don't do it period because we all have to suffer with you. Kids r
  17. My family can do whatever they need to do with me to deal with their grief. I have requested if they are going to lay me out for a viewing that they have the mortician sew my mouth into a smile, first because that is who I am and secondly I have spent a fortune on my teeth and I want them to enjoy them as much as they would should I had bought them a new car with that money I do know that when my maternal great grandfather passed pics were taken of him in the casket with the flowers all around. When family visited that had not been able to attend the pictures were brought out. My grand
  18. I just wrote in the other thread that they should be given a choice of taking a misdemeanor knowing exactly what the punishment will be or fighting a felony charge.

The most disturbing thing about this when you talk about punishment is the number of kids involved. The punishment should be the same for all. Pubby is right in his concern that a few might be singled based on the testimony of others to satisfy those screaming for blood. I am very concerned about that also, there is no doubt that they should all be punished and when it comes to such a large group of kids there are real life issues involved. We don't want to cut these kids at the knees before they even start their lives. I still say we should get creative with the punishment, don't giv

It would be cool to turn the tables on them since they love pranks so much, let them graduate and walk in the orange suits, Take their pictures for the yearbook and publish it with them in orange jump suits. I am snickering just thinking about it. Let the punishment fit the crime.

I still hope they make them wear prison jumpsuits bright orange everyday and any student or parent that complains the probation is revoked and the kid is suspended. You will find out right quick which parents don't want their kids to suffer consequences.
  22. I am amazed at the people that want to throw the book at kids, let the punishment fit the crime, it was paint, it can be removed and paid for by parents. The kids that did something dumb will learn their lesson and move on to better things, the bad seeds no matter what reason, bad parenting or whatever will end up in the system anyway. If this was my kid that was generally a good kid and caught up in this, you bet I would get them out and get them a good lawyer, even if the parent can't afford a good lawyer this is way too young to hang this on a kids neck, especially if they don't have grea
  23. I keep thinking that this is a felony with the intent of dealing with gang bangers not high school kids that do something stupid. I think I would have issues with the charges not being reduced to a misdemeanor for these kids. That means all of them, getting the same charges and punishment since it was a group thing. They knew what they were doing and they knew it was wrong, but I still think that in their minds it was a prank. Pranks are intended to be shocking or even funny, not usually really harming anyone or costing what this one did. If they would have stuck to just painting the pa

I know I know, but after raising 4 kids I realize just how immature they really are at that age, they make different types of mistakes, the kind that can have serious consequences like this. You have a handful that are already lost causes by 18, that handful will make more serious mistakes and severe consequences will be in order. I see babies with their whole lives ahead of them, they can learn from this and move on. Quite a few look like they need a hug not that they should get it,I am just saying I see babies.

I am getting and soft in my old age, I see a bunch of scared babies in the pics. They need community service, probation and their parents to pay restitution. They need to have to go before the board of education and apologize and the same to the entire school in front of an assembly. I would certainly let them go back to school with the stipulation that they have to wear a jail jumpsuit every day until school is out. This was a very stupid prank, I don't think that they were thinking about the cost to taxpayers they were thinking about the shock factor. It wasn't even an act of hatred tow
