  1. Do any of you know anything about any of the gift shops that are inside the area hospitals? Are they run by volunteers? Do they accept donations; for example fresh flower arrangements, new books, etc.?
  2. Here's a link to the list of the free clinics in Georgia: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php?/topic/262470-georgia-free-clinic-network-website/page__pid__3365538#entry3365538
  3. Someone was asking about free and/or low cost health care. I came across this website while looking for volunteer opportunities. Putting in a zipcode brings up those located in the area. I noticed listings for Temple, and Mableton, etc.: http://www.gfcn.org/search.php?search=30141&search-button.x=30&search-button.y=11 Clinics who serve the uninsured •There are over 100 clinics in Georgia who serve the uninsured. •Free clinics provide $200 to $400 million dollars' worth of care annually in Georgia6 •The State Auditor estimates that 10-20% of all uninsured care (over 90,000
  4. I thought that Florida might be one option, but I wanted to hear about other choices, too. I don't want to live where it's too primitive though. I do like having internet access.
  5. Here is a website with some natural face peels. I haven't tried any of them though: http://www.greentv.com/
  6. I realize that most people wouldn't consider the winters here too cold. At one time I wouldn't have either. But a short time after moving to Paulding County a young man driving a Mustang came around a curve going way too fast and crossed into my lane. The head on collision left my car totaled and me with some lasting pain and injuries; including a lump on my right hand where it was broken. Add to that that my kidneys are too damaged to take prescription arthritis medications or even any over the counter Advil or Aleve or even Tylenol. So I do better with warmer temperatures---warmer than what
  7. What is your nomination for a place to live---where it doesn't get too cold or too hot? Can someone tell me about some places in Florida where there are still some rural areas?
  8. I liked it when I was about 10 or 11 years old. We got a big snow and my mother and sister and I built a snowman (in our case we added accessories and made it a snow-woman). My Dad was watching some "special" football games on TV---back then there wasn't the constant coverage of football like there is now. But now I wonder what it would be like to live where winter is in name only---and there is never any snow or ice. Have any of you ever lived anywhere like that?
  9. Yes, all of that is true. I just spent part of my time with my neighbor, Mrs. Cox. She was a widow who lived alone. She needed a walker to get around and spent a lot of her time in a rocker on her front porch. I remember some things about her really well. She always wore a dress; 365 days a year and thick cotton stockings with garters.
  10. When I was 8 years old I had a friend that was probably at least 60 years older. No, she wasn't a relative. She was a neighbor. It's seems that children---and just about everyone else spend the majority of their time now days with someone that could often be classified as a peer. It's natural to want to share common interests and experiences, etc. BUT spending time with someone that is a different age can enrich the lives of everyone involved. What do you think?
  11. I've learned some things from this experience that I hope will help any time snow (and especially this crunchy snow) is predicted. Next time I think if I put down a few pieces of scrap cardboard on the ground in the backyard then I can remove it after the snow stops and have some grass showing. Even a large overturned flower pot or bucket with a brick or rock on top would probably work.
  12. I've made some with mens tube socks, too. I've bought them in packages at Walmart before. (I bought the gray ones.) I just tied the end of the sock in a knot though.
  13. Their people are suppose to be out there shoving; clearing them a path (in the yard; thank you). (I hope I didn't come across too harsh sounding. My Pekingese really did appreciate me clearing off a couple of small areas in the backyard for her though.)
  14. My Pekingese walked and walked. I could tell she didn't want to do anything on the ice crusted snow so I shoved off some spots in the yard down to the grass, and I was relieved when she tinkled right away.
  15. "KROGER VALUE SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE CHIPS, 12 OZ" They make a lot of different types of chocolate chips now---including MILK chocolate so maybe some of the ingredients got mixed up.
  16. I was just outside with one of my dogs refilling one of my bird feeders. I didn't see or hear another person (children included) anywhere. I "know" almost no one in my subdivision. I moved here from a house in Douglasville about 15 miles south of where I live now. For some unknown reason I found the people in that area a lot friendlier. I moved there from a small town in another southern state which had been even friendlier. The small town was so much like the older part of Douglasville. It had grown up around a railroad during an era when many goods and people traveled by train. We lived in o
  17. We have 3 dogs now; Dahlia is a 9lb. Pekingese, and George and Lea are 50+lb. mixed breeds. They (and pretty much all the dogs we've ever had) like the snow when it first falls if it's light and fluffy. Last night Dahlia was running around and sorta hopping in the snow. This morning when I took her out it was sleeting and the snow had gotten crunchy and she didn't like it. Lea was walking around, but you could tell that she wasn't pleased with it and George really didn't like getting on it at all.
  18. With the talk about possible weather power outages I was thinking about ways to generate power. I have some flashlights that can be hand cranked to provide a light source and also a radio. I was wondering about other types of human powered generators and found this website: Curious about Human Power? Need some exercise? Trying to lose weight? Need inspiration? Researching technical information? Expensive electricity and gasoline making you nuts? You have come to the right place. Every morning, I pedal to generate electricity. The Pedal Generator I built and ride charges batteries, tha
  19. I just came inside from filling my bird feeders.
  20. What about lunch and dinner? Do they have veggie plates and/or any salads?
  21. Someone posted somewhere else that some dollar stores have the single papers for $1.00. Do you know anything about that?
  22. Are double papers ever available on Saturdays now? I know one store manager told someone a few months ago that the double papers were only available on Sunday because they were the early edition packaged together with a copy of the regular Sunday edition.
  23. What about Douglasville? Down from the Kroger store on Ridge Road is where I have been buying mine. I haven't been by there today. They're usually next to Family Dollar.
  24. Did they get it? What do they think about it? Can you use a netbook to connect to a TV so you can use the TV like a monitor?
