  2. That's interesting. I've never seen a recipe that called for peach leaves.
  3. I read the article that you posted and there was no mention that I saw of the mother giving her son any other option. I did search and see if I could find a video of the Dr. Phil show the day you started the thread but it didn't show up then. It was still troubling me today so I decided to post.
  4. The Postman, you say you don't value hamsters even though many children get a lot of enjoyment out of them as pets. What about the value of the child? How was such an experience going to affect him? I can't imagine that he felt loved and valued.
  5. Did you hear anything from the people you had made plans with originally?
  6. Well, since none of us were there we don't really know what was said between the mother and daughter. I guess I tend to be optimistic. I hope they have a better relationship than what others have posted ...
  7. You're welcome. I would like to hear how she is, too.
  8. If they both wanted a pair I would have asked a Kohl employee to find out where it was in stock in the correct size at the closest other locations. Also, if they are in stock online you could order them each a pair and surprise them: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/shoes.jsp
  9. This thread is from a couple of years ago. I wondered how she was recovering: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/250866-prayers-for-my-friend-lisa-sweat/page__hl__%2Bkidney+%2Bfailure__st__40
  10. It's sad that you are so quick to predict another person's future. Stranger things have happened than someone being helped by resources they found on a website. Also, you are misinformed if you believe that women who experience abuse that does not fit the "violent" definition of abuse do not need help, too.
  11. I know there is one or more local shelters for women in abusive relationships. What about resourses that are independent of the shelters? Are there counselors that specialize in counseling women who are been abused? Support groups? Any websites that list all the resourses in one place? I would like to see more offered concerning this important issue. Please post anything you know about that could help in these kinds of circumstances.
  12. I've experienced meanness here on p.com---from both women and men. Not long after joining I posted that I had various health problems and often felt depressed. I also talked about loving animals, liking arts and crafts, etc. I thought I would find some support and make some friends. INSTEAD some members made mean remarks. One made references to bipolar on more than one occasion which I never mentioned and do not have. But if someone does they need understanding not ridicule. One of the least offensive things she said was "Maybe CVS was out of lithium." One male member posted a "joke" about kid
  13. What's something that would really get her excited before she got depressed? It could provide a clue.
  14. I've know a couple of women who I believe had disorders but I don't believe they were depressed. One was very domineering and seemed to believe it was acceptabe to do anything to get what she wanted, no matter how it hurt others, etc. One of her daughters was sadistic and you could see her get a sick pleasure from inflecting emotional pain on someone who had done nothing to hurt her. But I believe this is very different from someone who is basically a caring person but is depressed.
  15. What help have they refused? Has anyone asked the the person what he or she believes would help? It is important to listen to the person who is depressed and value what they have to say. If the person says it would help relieve stress in his or her life if someone would help with xyz don't reject the idea because it is not something you would choose. Different people can be stressed by different circumstances and sometimes enjoy different types of things, too.
  16. Emotional support and encouragement is valuable whether the illness is depression, heart disease, cancer or other conditions.
  17. It's wonderful that you are doing that.
  18. Here's some info about antidepressants and the placebo effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zihdr36WVi4 From 60 Minutes: Do antidepressants work? Since the introduction of Prozac in the 1980s, prescriptions for antidepressants have soared 400 percent, with 17 million Americans currently taking some form of the drug. But how much good is the medication itself doing? "The difference between the effect of a placebo and the effect of an antidepressant is minimal for most people," says Harvard scientist Irving Kirsch. Will Kirsch's research, and the work of others, change the $11.3
  19. Have you asked her if there is something she would like to do, a place she would like to go, etc.? Often depression is associated with feeling blocked, defeated, helpless, etc.
  20. Have any more events been added for July? Is there a website where the events are listed along with any updates? TIA!
  21. What is known about the other cases? A print story that tells about all four might be a good idea.
  22. I've only watched a few of the shows but I remember on some it was stated that the person was different UNTIL they experienced a LOSS they couldn't control; i.e. the death of a close family member, etc.
  23. This man may have more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_9FR-9do-w
