  1. Well, you need to keep in mind that a man's inner need to "take care of it all" is actually pretty old, and outdated when you come to it. It goes back to a time when a man had to provide what for his family? A one or two room cabin or home he most likely built himself? A few horses? Planting crops to feed their kids? Move forward a few years to the 50s, maybe... a man only had to provide what we would now consider a very modest home, one car per family, etc. Today, folks live in homes 2-3X the size of their fathers and grandfathers. They have 2-3 or more cars per family. Satellite...
  2. Well, that's not really true. Since there is not a way to "time" a natural death, the only way some guys try to provide for their families in this sort of tragic way is through suicide - and they forget that in the fine print, life insurance policies exclude suicides (among a few other things) as a reason to pay out. In other words, you do yourself in, and your family doesn't get anything but a big funeral bill and lots of sorrow. It's best to bring the family together and talk about any hardships that are going on. Be very upfront about it. Try to think of ways to save money, and make
  3. Um.. that would be, "on a country's history etc etc....", and in the subject line, "choose" and not "chose"(past tense). I mean, if you're going to turn a paper in, spell checker is your best friend. I would pick Denmark, due to Copenhagen being there. It was voted as one of the most livable cities in the entire World.
  4. I remember going to that IKEA store in Atlanta one day, and inside they actually have apartments set up inside the store that are fully furnished, to show you how you can live in smaller spaces. They had one that was as small I think as 450 square feet, going up to around 750 or so square feet. I mean sure, they were all filled with IKEA stuff that perfectly matched the spaces, so if you dumped most of your belongings and could start over, you could probably make it work in one of the larger ones. I could survive in a 750-850 square foot place provided there was at least some storage space
  5. First, read this article: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/cozy_crazy_couple_makes_tight_studio_R15ToNFTaJE3c17zkw4efP/0 Ok, we all know deep down that many Americans have more than we really need, and we live in homes that are larger than we really need them to be, too - especially compared to homes in parts of Asia and Europe, etc. Could you actually survive however, like the NYC couple above? Think first.... My answer: If I had two rooms the size of the one they have with a proper closet and bathroom, etc (and lower monthly fee), I could do it - alone, and no pets
  6. This is a "Verbatim" brand USB drive. It's something I haven't seen before - made of solid plastic with only the gold USB contacts on the end, and total about the size of a tiny stick of that Trident gum. Supposed to be super tough and super small and can be put on a key chain, but does not have any software with it for passwording. So I would doubt that U2 software would work with it due to the branding, but I'll try the other suggestion unless anyone else has more. UPDATED: Ok, duh, never mind. I looked on the mfg website and found where it does have it. For some reason it didn't
  7. A question for the computer experts: I know that some USB drives have built-in software that allows you to store your data in a folder on them that uses password protection to access it in case you lose the drive. However, I have a couple of super-mini USB drives I want to use on my keychain that do not come with that software. Googling, I find some stuff that's available, but the last thing I wanna do is use crappy spyware or put a virus on my USB drive, so I thought I'd ask here. Is anyone aware of a software (free or very cheap) you can put on a USB drive where you can store yo
  8. Funny that Uganda would come up with a law like this when it was determined decades ago that AIDS pretty much started it's mutation and spread among the heterosexual population in Africa. A geeky history: A long-held theory about further spread to the U.S. was via a bisexual Canadian airline employee who had numerous sexual encounters in the late 1970s with women and men in the U.S. He supposedly traveled to San Francisco a lot and had sex with whoever/whatever he wanted to, starting the epidemic here with the gays, which got it labeled the "gay disease" here (while it was still a he
  9. This is why we have so many mentally well adjusted kids these days. LOL
  10. I'm still kinda surprised by reading posts from last night how many folks participate in that 5am stuff. Camping in front of stores, etc. You folks are nuts. But if you're on a tight budget and reallllly need that cheap laptop I guess it's worth it. Note though, there's sales on all kinds of junk all weekend long, though. No tents needed. I went by Best Buy after 11am and it was crowded but not "crazy crowded". They had of course sold out of the Sony laptops that were on sale, but weirdly enough, they said some of the people who got tickets to get them actually never showed up by the
  11. The iPod touch FYI, does not have a camera or a video camera on it. It is on sale for $199 and you get a $30 gift card with it, though. The iPod NANO has a video camera now built into it, but it won't take still photos. Only the iPhone does photos/videos in the lineup right now.
  12. Stand in line and start coughing a lot. Then make a call on your cell and loudly tell the person on the other end that you forgot to take your Tamiflu. Bet the crowd clears out around you and you'll be able to jump ahead.
  13. If it's like the campers at the Kennesaw store, they're probably waiting for the Sony laptop deals. $399 and $479 for a laptop that has a regular price of around $1000 on their web site normally. Of course, the fine print says, "Minimum 10 per store", which of course usually means exactly 10, if that. The Hiram store is also semi-famous for not having the same stock as the other stores or doing the, "we didn't get it in time" bit, so I'd not be surprised if they don't even have 10 there. Hopefully none of the people are in line for the Apple laptop "deal" (not much of one - $150 off), beca
  14. I do regular backups of my photos and documents on an external hard drive. But in the past I tried one of those "ghost" programs to restore a disk and it just messed everything up really bad, so I never got into doing a complete full system backup. I just figured there was too much room for mistakes in the process and have only backed up my photos/docs since that time.
  15. Yeah, I know, doing a full install is best, but geez, I'm burned out having to re-install programs. When I bought a new computer a while back, it died literally days after getting it, AFTER I spent the time installing my stuff. Then, the replacement computer's hard drive died one month later, again, after all my stuff had been re-installed again. So, third time worked and I finally got a computer that didn't die on me, and had to re-install everything again (3rd time). The prospect of having to re-install stuff yet a forth time makes me mentally vomit. My computer is an i7 core wit
  16. A customer came in today who just happened to know about this stuff, and my understanding from him at least, is that if you're doing a "side-to-side" install, there's not much work to it other than letting the upgrade program do it's thing. That is, I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit now, and so long as I put in Win7 Home Premium 64 bit upgrade, it's easy, and I don't have to re-install or reformat to do it. Now, he said upgrading from Win XP would be a complete craphole and involves complete backups, reformats, etc, and not to do it (not my situation). He wasn't aware of the mail th
  17. A question for the computer techs on here.. My understanding is that Windows 7 no longer includes "mail" which I assume means Outlook Express (?). If I buy the Win7 upgrade and upgrade my Vista 64 bit PC to Win7, will this then cause my outlook express (along with all my stored emails) to vanish and get wiped out, or during the upgrade will it keep outlook express as an installed program so I can keep using it? Again, this is an upgrade install, not reformatting my hard drive and doing it all from scratch, etc. thanks ahead of time. ADDED: I realize there probably aren't many
  18. Hmmm... I prefer it if hunting ends this way instead... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Uz80zTMO40
  19. On any given time when it's dark and raining, my guess would be that about 25% of the cars that go past me in this area don't have their lights on. Of course, they're still talking on their cell phones and speeding in the dark and rainy conditions, but they don't use their lights as well. Stupid.
  20. Several things to consider: 1) You're in Paulding. Many people who pay dinner bills are men. Men want a Hooters girl waiting on them, not a guy. Girls make more tips than guys in more rural areas. If your son worked in Buckhead or anywhere intown, his tips would be much higher. Out here, the gals have the advantage because the bill payers (again, mostly men at dinner) will tip girls higher. During lunches you tend to get many groups of women who want separate checks who (sorry ladies) ARE known to be cheap at lunch when it comes to tipping (girls or guys). 2) Yes, the South is
  21. I think it's "Broadview Security" now, but I still use my Brinks signs. I've had them for years. My monitoring is around $25 a month but that could be because I've used them so long and avoided rate increases. I've only had the alarm go off maybe 3 times in 8 years, but since I only live 1/4 mile from the police station, they got to the house each time literally in less than 2 minutes. Don't have video cameras because they require a constant DSL hookup to work, but I have retired neighbors literally surrounding me. A squirrel can't come into my yard without at least two other people kn
  22. Ohhhhhhh.... there 'aint gonna be a Christmas in this house this year. It all went to VET BILLS! ARGH. I don't know who has a good enough memory or not, but about four years ago I had found a black stray dog in my neighborhood. Went through all the hoops to find an owner and never did. Turns out she was older and in the final stages of heartworm, so I had to pay $$$ to get that treated. I wasn't set up to handle that then and through a web site I created for her treatment, some of the cost was paid for via donations. Here's a pic (all three of my dogs, the dog discussed is "Mandy
  23. That's a pretty low area down in that business zone - they didn't have flood insurance?
  24. I haven't seen a "pack" of them in Powder Springs, but individual ones are spotted often. We used to even have one that lived in my neighborhood a while back - I caught him standing at the fence one night literally kissing my two large dogs (female) through the fence. Tramps. Up by the Powder Springs post office people have seen one or two large ones. They probably hang out on the Silver Comet Trail. I haven't heard of anyone losing pets (yet) over them, though.
