  1. How much time do you have? I'll say this--It's gotten a lot better now that they've acquired some extra people on the ACC, which is the group that goes around to find problem areas (while ignoring the fact that they themselves as the HOA put 2 different colors of lights at the entrances, but whatever...) There have been some serious issues with the ACC in the past, however, with people WAY overstepping their bounds. All of that said, I appreciate living in a neighborhood with an HOA, since I lived in BH Estates many moons ago and I'm not 100% sure that the guy next to us wasn't

  3. You are absolutely right there. However, Team Chiro said that SCHOOLS get more money for a child with ADD, which is unequivocably untrue. Your comment was much more than just explaining how you could help these children. You instead threw out the inference that schools want their kids to be labeled ADD ( inferring that teachers/schools push parents to get the child that label), so that they could receive money, which I would have assumed you would know is entirely untrue.
  4. So, parents should come to you and spend money, then? What a novel (and not even remotely self-serving) idea. Since you seem to be deluded in how funding is created for schools, a label of ADD has no monetary advantage. None. Zip. Some parents choose to ask the school to do a full special-ed screening, but most schools are VERY reluctant to do so. There is a process that takes almost a year to complete--it is not remotely automatic because of any kind of diagnosis. If a child with ADD/ADHD truly has special needs in the classroom, they may be 'labeled' with an ESEP qualifcation of 'o
  5. I guess my reply vanished! Anyway, Reunion was an awesome show and I hated that they pulled it like they did. However, this plot ending was posted on Wikipedia (verified by a star on the show): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reunion_(TV_series) When the 13th episode aired on the SBT channel in Brazil, additional information had been added. A narrator explained that an adult Amy, angry over being abandoned as an infant and being abused by her adopted father, accidentally shoots and kills Samantha. Will and Craig call Craig’s high-powered dad, Russell (Gregory Harrison), for help. The big tw
  6. Paulding has a letter ready to send home to parents. And, I have to commend the state as well. I was 99% sure they would refuse to do this when it was requested, and I am so happy I was wrong on that.
  7. And while that makes sense to wait, that is the absolute worst time for them to add the time. We need the time now, as we gear up to finish our standards before the CRCT. And before people get started, it's not teaching to the test. Rather, my job is to teach the GPS for my grade-level. And, since the state requires that the kids know those standards for the CRCT, I'd better be through them by then. They can actually waive as many as they choose on an individual basis. The county, however, chose not to apply for a waiver on all the days last year. Instead, they chose to call scho
  8. She was crazy during her "16 and Pregnant" episode. She treated her mother terribly.
  9. The problem with that is that they will pay out the nose for substitutes (if they can even find them) for all the teachers that won't be there. Additionally, attendance is part of AYP. Since the county is on its last year to make AYP before the state steps in, I doubt they're going to try and make the days up during either of the breaks, knowing that student attendance will be WAY down.
  10. The were talking to cut the budget again, and the state laid out that there could be up to 10 furlough days. I'm not sure how they were planning to go about taking them, though I had heard that teachers would just be told to take those days individually. I would implore the BOE to really look into their options, since the state no longer has the stringent guidelines on # of school days/hours, meaning the making up of the days isn't automatic as it used to be--rather than just throw something out there without really thinking about all the repercussions. Making up the school days during ei
  11. Kim-- Is it possible to use these days as furlough, since we've basically been told that there would be more furloughs between now and June? I know many teachers have plans already during the 2 breaks, so I'm a little concerned the board will try and call school during those times. I would certainly implore the board to attempt to waive as many of these days as possible. If the days can be excused, it'd be much better to do that, rather than the kids be sitting in rooms with subs the entire week. Not to mention all the kids that would be absent, thus affecting AYP--esp. since the coun
  12. Yep Though it was kind of hard not to respond 'duh!' to the phone call
  13. I'm seriously not trying to be snotty, but if you go to Georgiastandards.org, you can search for the grade level and subject for your child and then come up with some ideas on your own. I just say that because I'm not sure what I'd give a parent who emailed me today for extra work. Or, there's always hoodamath.com; funbrain.com; and brainpop.com (this one is subscription only, but some schools gave out information for it).
  14. Yeah, I'm sure people will keep that in mind when the scores come back
  15. My husband thought the same thing! I had just told him a few minutes before that we were likely to see thundersnow, so we'd both went outside to watch We also have 6" of snow, but the ice is starting to show on the streetlights.
  16. I can't imagine that Paulding wouldn't close tonight. The DOT, the SO, and the weather people are all saying the same thing--stay off the roads tonight and tomorrow. I'd also go out on a limb and say that, since the precip is supposed to linger through Monday night, Tuesday is likely a wash as well.
  17. I think most teachers, esp. those I know on here, would whole-heartedly agree with you.
  18. What an absolute clusterfrick. On paper it makes sense for student achievement to factor in to teacher evaluations. However, this article glosses over several of the very serious issues that desperately need to be addressed before this program is implemented. There is a reason that these programs have failed over and over again. 1) Standardized testing is not the be-all/end-all that it is made out to be. Issues in the past, such as test questions not aligned to the standards (remember when they threw out test scores 3 years ago?) highlight that fact. In addition, if you take a studen
  19. I would google the two together and see what comes up, but if it's on there, there is probably a reason. I know my pharmacist has pointed that out to me before when I had to take Metronidazole/Flagyl. His quote was "It won't kill you, but it will make you so sick that you'll wish it would".
  20. Woot! I bought a sled on Amazon.com this morning, and it should arrive tomorrow--just in time for Santa to put it under the tree
  21. Depending on where you are on Dabbs Bridge or Harmony Grove/Cedarcrest, you may not have that option to turn around because there is just no room and the ice could have slid you right off the other side of the road. In a normal situation, clear roads, absolutely you're right. But, with what they dealt with tonight--not so much. This is one of those fluke situations that no one is really ever prepared for (esp. since the weather people did such a piss-poor job of calling it). I think they did the best they could under the circumstances, even though there were plenty of mistakes made I'm su
  22. So much to comment on, but it's not even worth it. On a side note, when you get on a public forum and show your ass, you may want to be sure you're not doing it under your 'business ID'. I'm just saying.
  23. I'm pretty sure they're closed until Monday.
  24. Maybe. I think that HD and Wal-Mart, though, have always been stick-outs as far as releasing their ads early, even though the price matches and early opens have been going on for years. It just doesn't make good business sense to me, esp. if they are competing with Lowes, whose ad has been out (and I'm sure pored over by many) for a week now.
