  1. Generally, this person doesn't take them from the road; he comes onto the property--even up on the porch. Secondly, the number of times this has occurred has gone far past reasonable and is now bordering on harrassment, which I would assume you'd be able to comprehend from reading the thread. This isn't a once a month or even week kind of thing, and some people were feeling threatened by the constant presence, especially when some pictures were being taken late at night.
  2. Your attorney sounds very much like the one I talked to. I know that the cul-de-sac that was being hit so often installed cameras and have often gone back to look overnight to see if that car came down the cul-de-sac after what one would consider 'reasonable' hours. To my knowledge, it hasn't been an issue since a complaint was filed and he was chased off. But, I know they still watch and wait in case it becomes a harrassing situation again.
  3. ACC check is done by the architectural committee (not sure what the other c is for). It's mostly the one guy that does it, however. That's crazy about the edged yard. I'm getting more aggravated hearing these stories. I wonder if the actual board is aware of how extreme the situation is becoming, and how precarious their own situation will be if the ACC/HOA ends up getting sued (or worse). As an aside, it was hard to say anything 'politely' when the ACC guy went peeling away from the cul-de-sac, only to be chased by a friend of ours because he was taking pictures of her house and c
  4. Oh, it's good times. Granted, I wouldn't live in a neighborhood without an HOA, having lived in a particular BH neighborhood several years back. However, for an HOA to be beneficial, it should be run by people who actually care about the neighborhood, and not the power trip they are on. Our HOA board has always been run by a group of morons, though some have been criminal morons as well. We've had fraud and embezzellment, an HOA president who attempted to charge everyone double by calling for dues a year in advance, and now this group, who are skimming the very edge of legality wit
  5. Sadly, yes. That's okay, as I truly believe that what these people have done (some barely on the scope of legal) will come back to bite them big time. I tell you one thing--since reminding them that we have installed motion cameras that took pictures of them on our property (and offering to show them those pictures), we haven't seen them around our neck of the woods anymore. The neighbor across the street apparently also informed him that if someone comes walking onto the property at night (which he had done before), a reasonable home owner is going to assume that harm is meant to
  6. He has been informed that the next time we see him in the yard or on our street taking pictures, we will be calling the police. He has trespassed on numerous properties under the guise of 'ACC checks', and the HOA board seems to have no problem with him completely overstepping his boundaries time and time again.
  7. Homemade fried-rice with veggies and chicken. It was the 1st time I've made it, and it was quite tasty!
  8. Ha! My daughter loves sweet peppers. She went shopping with me tonight and grabbed a few habeneros to put in the bag of peppers I was buying. I quickly informed her that though they look like the tiny sweet peppers we love, they are surely not ;-)
  9. I had a hard time staying into it 2 seasons ago, and then last season never could get caught back up. With all the new shows, I'm just going to stick to Amazing Race
  10. Capitalism is a great thing, but like everything it can be taken to extremes. Do I think the government should mandate mundane matters such as where you buy your groceries or which doctor you see? Absolutely not. But, should something be done about the insurance companies that charge $10,000 in premiums and then deny coverage? Or do something for the millions of people who can not afford to pay the $10,000 premiums? What happened to human decency? I despise the way that the government runs some programs, such as the length of time it takes to get a pot-hole fixed, or the NCLB act. But, n
  11. Human nature has a really bad habit of having very strong beliefs until their own life situation changes. I am thankful that we have government programs in place to help people in need, such as those who lost everything in a flood. In comparison, I also think the government should have a program in place to help those with no health insurance (or health insurance run by those jerks who do cost-comparisons of being sued when the patient dies because they didn't approve a treatment vs. having to pay for the treatment) to be able to afford life-saving medical treatments. People didn't expec

Bah. I would rather be vocal, and try to make someone think, rather than sit on the sidelines and just nod my head along. Besides, I have enough mayberries for bringing good old fashioned common sense to some threads that I feel like it balances out Just a hint, though: if you get involved on a different political party than the one popular here, your stars go down even quicker
  13. Since teachers will work 2 of the 5 days, there is no way to have the students make up the entire week, as then you have teachers working 2 days past their contracts. As I've said all along, I have a feeling these days will be forgiven. The following GA code addresses this: Student Inclement Weather Days – Georgia Code 20-2-168 c (3) which in part reads: "(3) In the event that at the end of the last complete week of the school year four or fewer days remain for completion of the regular 180 day school year, a local board of education may, without the necessity of authorization
  14. Does it make a difference, however, if teachers are bashing pointing out some very valid points? I'm sure I'll be incredibly irritable when/if we have to make these days up. Personally, with the budget being like it is, I don't think the school system will want to go through the expense. Plus, we were told to expect more furlough days. I think these fit the bill just fine--tack these 'make-up days' on at the end of post-planning and call it a furlough. At the same time, though, I stand by the assertion that teaching, just like any job, is what you personally make of it. If someone
  15. Now that? Was freaking hilarious. And, I am right there with you on the 2nd point. I gripe and complain about ridiculous policies, discipline issues, politicians who don't get it, and having to spend way too much of my own money to provide basics for my kids. But, at the end of the day, I absolutely love getting to go in everyday and work with these kids. It is HARD to make grammar and writing fun for some kids, but can you imagine how miserable you would be if you didn't come up with fun and creative activities to put in? I work my butt off to make it fun for them, and in turn, it
  16. Modern Family looks great! Have you seen Glee? It started last week, but it was hilarious
  17. Short, sweet, and to the point. You know I *heart* you, WFAL
  18. What is that last picture? It looks like a baby lobster!
  19. We had pizza from Papa Johns and it was quite tasty.
  20. Not to be snarky, but any teacher that truly believes that, and implements it in their classroom, needs to sit down and have some pedogogical training or get the heck out of the profession. I know that moral has been up and down this year, but seriously? I've been teaching for 10 years now and I've been back and forth on this pendulum they call 'education'. But the comments I'm seeing here--about your actual teaching, and not griping about administrative issues, furloughs, etc. are worrisome. Yes the students need the information from the standards for a state test, and most teachers th
  21. That was a typo. It did say they were closed on Thursday, Sept. 24 to students. I'm wondering if teachers will be called in.
