  1. And what I said is true. Electric motors take a lot of joice to get going. I really didn't think the poster needed to understand the dynamics of what the capacitor actually does on a electron level. No matter... all is good.
  2. I know how a capacitor works. And nothing I said was a misconception. My description said it assists the motor in starting, which is exactly what it's job is.... I didn't say "how" it assisted the motor. I said flipping the breaker can "'shock' a bad capacitor in to working until it dies completely. I said nothing about "shocking" or "kicking the pants" of the motor.
  3. No, actually, it wouldn't have been a smarter move. When you build something, like a building, it's almost always more cost effective to build it larger during initial build time than to go back later and add too it. When you go back and add too it, you have to tear off part of what you build (and paid for). And almost always, time, labor, and materials are more expensive. The price of labor and materials rarely go down. The old courthouse and annex building were so over-crowded, you couldn't turn around inside of it. It lasted a long time. When you build a new facility that
  4. But you don't see all the offices that are not empty. That is a HUGE building and it was built to accommodate future expansion. It was built with offices being empty in mind. Would you rather it be built that way or build another multi-million dollar building a few years down the road when it is over crowded? You have to remember, there were a LOT of layoff's of county employee's for budget reasons, which left space being available.
  5. I will assume we are talking about the Commission Chairman and not the Mayor of Dallas, since you are referring to a positive change in our "county." With that assumption... "The sidewalk to nowhere" is Dallas city limits, not county. "The pretty water fountain that is not needed." Are you referring to the one heading away from the square on Main St.@ S. Main St? If so, that is also Dallas city limits and not county. That whole area around the old courthouse was Dallas city renovation, not county. "A New Courthouse that is not even halfway used." Please explain this
  6. My question is why does everyone believe that one commissioner can do anything? Whether or not Tony said he could or would close the airport... HE can't. HE cannot do ANYTHING without a vote with the REST of the COMMISSIONERS. I know the Commission Chair is the head guy, but he ISN'T the only one who makes the decisions. He can TRY to do things and He can propose things be done... but remember, there are FOUR other commissioners up there who should be held just as accountable as the chair.
  7. From your description, it sounds like your motor/run start capacitor is bad. Electric motors take a LOT of juice to get going. The start/run capacitor stores electricity and assists the motor to 'get going' initially. Flipping the breaker on and off, for a lack of better words, can 'shock' a bad capacitor it to working, sometimes, therefore, the unit will start and function until it shuts off again. It will continue to get worse and finally won't start at all, once the capacitor goes completely bad and can't store enough electricity to assist the motor start. Good news is th
  8. Uh... No, it's not illegal, if there is an absences of "No trespassing" signs or you haven't been verbally told by the land owner or authorized property maintainer to "keep out." It is not illegal to go on to someone elses land, in general. If there are "No Trespassing" signs or if you have been told specifically, that is a different story. In general, just walking up and cutting someone's yard isn't illegal to do so.
  9. A lot of the time, there will be guys from the majors playing in Rome. Smoltz was there a couple of years ago, after he got hurt, and played in Rome a while during his rehab... This is pretty common... when the big named players get hurt, they will rehab in Rome until they get back up to par from being out with the injury.
  10. I'd rather go to a Rome Braves game, myself. The tickets are a LOT cheaper, it's a better family environment, people are nicer, the staff is great, and you see a better game because the players are there trying to make it in the big leagues. They often run specials. We went a couple of times last year. They ran a 4 ticket deal... 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 pop corns, and 4 cokes... for $25. And there isn't a bad seat in the Rome stadium.
  11. Speed of the news is one of the reasons you hear about it more, but it does happen more frequently as well. There are a LOT more people in this area (Atlanta metro) than there were 30 years ago. More people = more frequency of accidents. I'm sure cell phones and other electronic devices have an large impact on the numbers as well, as 30 year ago, we didn't have as many driver distractions and we do now.

Why don't you tell that to a couple of college kids who roommate with each other. Just because you share a dwelling doesn't mean you share your assets.
  13. I agree with you whole heartedly on the consideration part. As a firearms instructor, I try to teach people to not only be responsible with their firearms, but considerate, as well. If I am out shooting in my yard, legally, on a Saturday afternoon, honestly, I could care less if someone just doesn't want to hear it. With that being said, if one of my neighbors came by and said, "hey, my 2 year old niece is visiting us and is trying to take a nap... would you mind not shooting for a couple of hours?" I'd be more than willing to stop. If they come over all honked off and barking at m
  14. While I agree with you, for the most part on the consideration thing, the whole "Your rights end where mine begin..." Bahahahaha! What *right* of yours am I infringing on when I discharge a weapon on my own property, within the legal confines of the law?
  15. Serve and Protect is the police department motto. The Sheriff's department doesn't have that motto... ... and that's not the point. People who call them just because they hear gunfire do nothing but waste law enforcement time. If someone is legally shooting on their land and a damn nosy neighbor calls the police/sheriff, and there is no crime being committed, it's a waste of the law enforcements time. It's potentially taking them away from a call where they would actually be needed. By the time they drive to the location, investigate, write their report, only to find out
  16. It's really too bad people don't mind their own business... It's one thing if they hear a gun shot and there are bullets whizzing around everywhere. But there's too damn many idiots out there who call the police/sheriff just because they heard a gun shot. I hear gun shots around here all the time... I think nothing of it. If you know a crime is being committed and you hear a gunshot, that's one thing, but to call just because you hear a shot is just being an ass. If I lived near you and heard you shooting, I wouldn't think twice about it. It's your property and you're not hu
  17. Chances are, it's not the torque converter, based on your description. My next question is... Is this the first time you've had the trans serviced? If so, that is likely what caused the problem. A transmission should be serviced every 30,000 miles. Here's the kicker... If you don't service it regularly, you should NEVER service it. Transmission fluid is VERY high in detergent and the problem that a LOT of people make is they go 100,000 miles, etc... and then have their transmission serviced (flushed). This is the WORST thing you can do to an automatic. Varnish builds u
  18. As others have stated, you can fire a semi-auto weapon fast enough that someone could mistake it for a fully auto weapon. People who know weapons well can tell the difference MOST of the time. "Bump" firing can make a semi-auto fire just as fast as a fully auto and it's perfectly legal. It *IS* legal to own a fully automatic weapon **IF** you possess a Class 3 firearms permit and pay the $200 tax stamp fee. For the average person to own one, without the proper permit and taxes paid, no it's not legal. Is it legal to shoot on their property? As long as they are not inside the
  19. **IF** the torque converter is bad, that doesn't necessarily warrant a new transmission. A factory torque converter will run about $600. The trans has to come out to replace it. I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion. 2nd. There are VERY few people who know how to properly rebuild a transmission, ESPECIALLY a Japanese transmission. That is most likely an Asian-Warner transmission. Most transmission places will rebuild one and it will be shot again inside a year. $2700 seems a little high for that transmission. You could buy a brand new one for $3500. I wo
  20. Honestly, I wouldn't try to *fix* anything yet. YouTube has been horrendously slow the last 2 - 3 weeks. Most of the time, it buffers while it's playing and stays ahead of itself. Recently, it will buffer a few seconds ahead and just stop.. I've noticed this in several locations on several ISP's.
  21. That's one thing right there that needs to be changed. The "system" in this country was not intended or designed so that political office would be a life long job. It was setup and designed so that the average Joe could go serve his civic duty and then pass the rein to someone else. These representatives should NOT be a life long career. That's what causes most of the problems. We get these idiots in to office and nobody will vote them out. Oh they will complain about the job they do, but when it comes time to vote, they don't vote them out... If our representatives had t
  22. Amdro is the best stuff I've used. I don't just spread it on the ground though... I have a broadcast spreader for spreading fertilizer. When I fertilize the lawn, I will put about 2 containers of Amdro in with the fertilizer. It gets spread all over, not just concentrated on the mound. That way, any of the fire ants wandering through the yard find a granule here and there, they take it back to their mound... or any new ones moving in get stopped before they get started. I've rarely seen a fire ant mound in my yard since I've been doing this (about 10 years now). Sprinkle
  23. What it's going to take is the people taking more responsibility for themselves. What it's going to take is the government to quit taking care of people and doing EVERYTHING for them. What it's going to take is for the people to stand up and say that's enough, we've had it. What it's going to take is for the government to stop taxing people to death and realize that when it lets people keep more of their money, they will spend that money, and that spending of citizen's money is what drives the economy. The government seems to think that when IT spends money, it's good for the eco
  24. The reason it helped the economy back then is EVERYTHING was made in the USA. The government went to MANY companies for each item used in the war. IE: Jeeps were manufactured by American Bantam, Ford, Willy's, and a few others. Most all war items (tanks, guns, food rations, clothing, etc..) was contracted out by the government to private organizations... many different companies made the same product for the war effort. This provide a LOT of jobs for the citizen's of the country. War today is NOTHING like it was back then. Lockheed doesn't hire just anyone off the street to h
  25. Yes, they "can" be legal without turn signals and such. The law says that "motorized carts" may be operated on streets during daylight hours unless they comply with the equipment regulations promulgated by the commissioner of public safety." IE: They are legal on the street without lights, etc... during daylight hours. They are legal on the street WITH lights, signals, etc during night time hours. There is no state law, per say whether they are legal or not. Obviously, they are not legal on an interstate system due to lack of meeting minimum speed requirements as well as meeting
