I have never checked a regular parts store, but I seriously doubt they would sell them. That is really one of those items that you don't want to buy a non-factory part for... There's an online dealer that I use for Honda parts and they are a good bit cheaper than a local dealer. www.bernardiparts.com They are up north somewhere. The list price for those LMA's are $49.60 and you can bet that is what a local dealer is going to charge, full list price. Bernardi has them for $36.31. It won't really hurt to drive on it, but I wouldn't. If the VTEC system isn't functioning proper

Well, not really... but... If you have a mechanics stethoscope, you can listen to around to each one and see if you can find out where the tick becomes loudest. That generally doesn't work real well because all four sound like they are close together. It's worth a shot though. The only other way, which I really don't recommend, as it's a heck of a lot of work, is to buy one and replace one. If that doesn't fix it, but the old one back in and move the new one to the next cylinder and try it. The only problem with that method is that if you have more than one bad, you'll be chasing

Are you sure the valves are adjusted correctly? The intake should be 0.006" and the exhaust should be 0.008". If the valves are adjust correctly, the LMA's are likely the culprit. They may not be sticking, but the spring tension may be weak and they may not be holding proper tension. From what you described, the LMA's are your culprit, *IF* you have your valves adjusted properly.

Si, means it's fuel injected, not necessarily VTEC. The S is the model and the i stands for fuel injected. The Si designation has been around a lot longer than VTEC. Example... there was a carbureted version of the CRX which was the S model. There was a fuel injected model, which was an Si. I currently have a Prelude Si, that is not a VTEC engine. A knock or a tick? A knock would not be indicative of the lost motion assembly. A tick, similar sounding to a valve tick, would be. A knocking sound is either caused by bad bearings, bad rings, mis-matched pistons, or to much piston/wal

And it's obvious you haven't a clue. It DIDN'T correct itself. Read the quote that YOU posted. "Well the light went off for a day and a half then came back on again. It obviously did NOT correct itself and yes, the light going out and coming back on is most definitely possible. So, the score is really: naster mechanic who can read = 1 idiot who can't read = 0

American Indian attitude? Scume of the earth? Last time I checked, it was the American Indian's who got sheeze on and took the bullets to the back, had their women raped, and families murdered by the American government. An unknown emotion when one does kindness? The American Indian was one of the most humble and appreciative people who ever existed. Maybe if they wouldn't have been sheeze on by the American government, they would have treated the American government people and the European 'white man' a little better. Mark Twain's description is garbage. And last I

Does this really surprise anyone? Have you listened to the evening news recently? The so-called educated professional journalists use incorrect ALL the time. No wonder the scholastic scores in the United States are so far below the rest of the world. We have journalists, whose profession revolves around correct grammar, and they speak like fourth graders.

Well... First, to go on, that means you have to have a valid first argument. You don't. Second, you have no clue as to what my insurance covers. Third, I have insurance that covers cancer. So, no, you can't "Go on," but you are more than welcome to try again. Just because YOU may not have cancer insurance doesn't mean other people do not.

Automotive question - F-150 with 20" tires
Nitro replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
What makes a difference... Yes, larger size tires/wheels can make a difference. There are a couple of reasons for this. Larger wheels are heavier. The difference in 17" to 20" wheels are pretty significant. Anytime you add rotational weight, you are adding resistance that the engine has to over come. Same with tires. The tires are heavier. You could easily lose a couple of MPG's over larger tires/wheels. Second, you have to look at the overall circumference of the tire on the wheel. The larger the tire circumference (rollout) the tire has, the slower it will spin. A large -
I didn't put anything in your mouth. Once again, you failed to read what I wrote. I said that it was the posts and THOUGHT processes, like above, is the reason the country is in the shape it's in. That's pretty clear. If you don't believe your are in the position you are in because of YOUR own actions, then you are part of the problem. If you do believe that, then you are the type that when you get in to something bad, you will get yourself out of something bad. Uh... No, I'm not. Not once have I directed a single thing I said towards you specifically. I guess

EXACTLY!! Same here. I have learned multiple trades. If I lose my job, I may not be able to find another job doing what I am doing now, but I can most certainly find another job doing something else. I made and taught myself skills in a variety of areas that employers need. I don't rely on being in the job I am at forever. If I can hold it until I retire or I decide to leave, great! If I am let go for some reason, I CAN get another job in that field or several other fields because I AM responsible for my choices in life... I don't blame others. I've done the

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by "get trucked." In terms of the phone thing, no, actually, you didn't prove me wrong. I said I never HEARD of a company doing that. Not once did I say they didn't. If they do, that's fine. Still doesn't prove anything. Once again, you're wrong. I NEVER said you COULDN'T. I said I never HEARD of a company doing that. Quit trying to put words in my mouth to suit your agenda. Secondly, I most certainly CAN reduce my plan when I am under contract, because I JUST did it 2 weeks ago. Maybe YOUR provider won't let you do it, but mine

That has got to be the dumbest comparison I've ever heard made. Being a master ASE tech for over 30 years absolutely makes a person qualified. Just as being a respiratory therapist for 30 years makes one qualified to treat pulmonary problems. It doesn't work the other way around. Duh!
-
First, you'd be flat wrong. I have most definitely been in that sacrificing situation, a couple of different times. Second, I'm not looking down on anyone. All I am saying is that a large majority of the people out there complaining are the ones who won't rearrange their priorities and give up some of their luxuries and they don't plan ahead for the rainy day. I have been in that sacrificing position a few times and ya know what? It didn't bother me a bit. I kept food on the table and a roof over my head. I kept the vehicles in shape and there was NOTHING else going on that wa

I guess you can't read and comprehend English either. No, I did not diagnose it as needing a catalytic converter. Go back to school and learn to read. What I said was that the problem is one of two things. A converter OR an O2 sensor.

What's humorous is people like you who who really don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. ODBII has been around since about '91. It was federally mandated to be on all vehicles in '96. There were select vehicles prior to '96 that had ODBII systems. Emissions equipment has been on US automobiles since the early 70's. Apparently, you don't understand basic English either. And I never said I had 30+ years experience with ODBII systems. I said I have 30+ years Master ASE experience. However, I do have extensive experience with both ODBI and ODBII systems. Maybe you s

More than once a month... wow, across how many fuel deliveries in that "once a month?" Do the math, percentage wise, it's NOT that common. And no, they do NOT carry leaded fuel in the same trucks. That is a federal mandate that they are not allowed too. If they do, they are breaking the law. Jet fuel is nothing more than kerosene, which is carried in the same fuel trucks, but dumping kerosene in a diesel tank has no ill effects and will run just fine. Water is the biggest problem in fuel tanks and it's not because the water was delivered to the stations that way. Most of the pr

I have never seen those terms in a contract. The $200 fee is for early disconnection. That is the penalty for not keeping service the whole time. If you pay out the remaining months of service, you are not in breech of your contract. I have never seen in any contract where BOTH have to be paid. In the case of having a cell phone with no home phone... A basic cell phone does not cost $60+ a month. But I see these people in these types of situations carrying $500+ smart phones, which easily boast a $90+ a month phone plan. Everything IS black and white, if you set your priorities.
-
Ok, first, what I am about to say will piss off a lot of people, but the fact is, it's the truth. I realize that sometimes circumstances present themselves and it makes it REAL hard for people. However, if you (not meaning you specifically) enter in to a contract, you should have the means to support that contract through-out its life. It all boils down to personal responsibility. If you sign a contract for 2 years for a cell phone, you should have the early termination fee, sitting in the bank, if you need it. If you can afford $60 a month for a cell phone, you will not conv

The thing that I see a LOT more often than not is... People will say they can't afford to take the pay cut. BUT, in reality, they aren't willing to sacrifice and do what's necessary to continue surviving. I hear people all the time say that they have no money. Yet, every other night they go out to eat. On Friday nights, they are going to see a movie. They are posting pictures on Facebook of the party they are having with friends. They are driving a vehicle that gets poor gas mileage. They have $100+ a month cable/satellite/internet bills. They have smart phones with large data a

You know how many people I have seen that will pull the dash apart, remove the bulb, and then, a few miles down the road, wonder why their vehicle is getting crappy mileage, stuttering, and just having poor drivability issues.

Actually, after 30+ years of being a Master ASE, I CAN possibly say that it is those two things. Funny, I have never seen a parts store tell someone that a P0300 code is a converter. It's QUITE easy to tell which is which and ANY competent mechanic can as well. If you know anything about how converters work, all you need to tell if a converter is working properly is a scan tool (not the kind you buy at a parts store, the kind that actually gives real time data) and a temperature gun. Either the P0420 or P0421 codes will indicate, EXACTLY what I said. A bad converter or a bad O2

Why is it wrong and why are people loser's who go back? That is an absurd thought. If a junior in high school is going out with a freshman, is that wrong? So, they stay together all through school and the (was)junior now goes off to college and the (was)freshman is now a junior, wants to take his/her boyfriend/girlfriend to the prom, that is wrong? What a ridiculous thought! How many of you people calling them "loser's" are the exact same age as your significant other? Are YOU a loser because you married someone 2 years older or younger than yourself? Sheesh! Grow up!
-
OK, first off, there are NOT several things that can cause it to read a converter is bad. There are two. Both of which are the backside O2 sensor. The O2 sensor itself can be bad and not reporting the correct dilution of the exhaust gases or the converter itself is bad. Second, no, there is not miracle in a bottle that will cure the problem. An O2 sensor will cost you about $100 - $150 for most vehicles... some can get in to the several hundred dollar range. A factory converter will run you about $400 - $600 and a after market one (which will last about 1/3 of a factory o

I agree with your synopsis, but I would hardly call them "trained men." Law enforcement in those days was nothing like it is now. Back then, if you were brave enough and accepted the pay, you got the job and a badge. There was no training... other than what the job itself taught you to handle. There was no mandate school. There was no firearms training. Some of the cities, like NY and LA had organized law enforcement with some basic training, but the frontier lawmen had no kind of training. Most everything you see in a movie gun-fight is absolutely nothing like a real gun-figh
