NP , I did kinda ramble on. Got to thinking about what SL said and it just kind came out in my reply to you. A multi-reply with out the multi-poster reference if you will.

I understand the whole any attention is better than no attention concept. I have tried many different interests with him. Most wind up the same way. Not following rules (safety or by game design), Loss of interest, anger (his), material destruction. We tried soccer. Team sports are not well suited to his "ME" attitude. He always loved trains. I like them too so we tried Lionel Trains. That I determined was a set up for failure on my part. While he had the interest, he would not follow reasonable handling instructions and at $50 for a boxcar, I was unwilling to take the risk. I did take them aw

Again, the printer is what brought on the punishment in question. So many here are focused on trying to fix that problem.Tthe main question of this post was do the Pcom folks think that not giving him his Birthday present and not allowing a party with his friends was too much of a punishment? He will still get a cake with his family and a dinner of his choice. And family means only those in our home. The rest of the family was going to be gone anyway but we were going to do a friends party. Gifts from the relatives will still be given as arrangements were made prior to their leaving town. The

And I also know my son... If I want something removed from him where he can't get to it, I send it to a relative. He has gotten the car keys and went into the vehicles to get things that he wanted . Again, it only takes a minute. Mom leaves her keys out I do not. mine are always in my pocket. If he new the printer was in her trunk and did not have a key he would grab a screwdriver or hammer to get in. I'm not an idiot. It is not an excuse, it is the truth. I told you the alternatives I tried which were rather extensive just to keep a small child from getting into something he was told to leave

Whoo hoo!! That is the best news I've heard all day. Well with the exception of keeping them in the fridge. something tells me they would go right back into the printer.

I think he is ok without the ink. He was absolutely fine without the ink when HE knew it was all out and we did not know. At least he knew better than to try to get me to buy more ink. But as soon as the ink is in the printer, come Hell or high water he is going to find a way to make copies. Gaurd dad did provide him a printer earlier this spring and he promptly emptied the ink and broke it while trying to stuff in cartridges from a different printer. At the start of this summer we had 4 of our own. He broke the one that nnever worked right as a printer but the copy function worked. My old cab

I'm not certain, but If I take the ink out. the cartrides and the inkjets will dry out. That would at the least render the cartridges useless. That is why I haven't done that. I do not if I mentioned it but I did take the power cable away but he found another one to use.

He is only using the copy function. no computer required. Turn on printer insert original push copy.

Displays of love? Are you refering to his party? He has always had them and I have never resorted to this tactic. At this point it just was very well timed for the issue. That being less than a week from the infraction to the party. It just seems reasonable. You "take" something against the rules after multiple corrections and knowing full well it is wrong, then you should loose / pay for it with something. In this case it could be argued that I gave him the print cartridges and paper for a gift of HIS choosing. Not for these kids. It has been studied time and again, behavioral dis

He has an Allergist for his Eosonphillic Esophogitus. He is lactose intollerant and trying to pin down the allergen responsible for the EE is a royal pain. But we are already well versed in the dairy issues and he does not get dairy at home or school. He has a Neurologist for his Chiari Malformation. he said his ODD / ADHD / OCD are not related to that. Ironically that was found because he had to have a MRI of his Pituitary gland for his Pediatric Endocrinologist for his growth hormones. If it isn't 1 Dr. Appt. it is another.
-
You would be surprised. He can "slip" a latch in about 1-2 min. These are interior not exterior doors. As for the printer 200 pages will deplete the ink and all he has to do is plug it in for the copy function. And in case ya'll are wondering he is watching TV right now.

The only advice I asked for here was 1. Was taking his birthday gift and party away too strong? (he had not recieved the gift yet) 2. I aske LGM what programs she liked for her daughter. I always take all advice and analyze it for my own use. I never blindly accept advice even from my own family. The last time I did (with family) I lost out on a potentially lucrative ROI after Delta went into bankruptcy and I wanted to buy lots of $1 shares. Oh well. Thanks for you offer and concern

I'll give PIBO props for this. -
His previous doctor stopped taking our insurance this year so we have been going to a new one this year. As of right now I like him better the the old one. We had him in "play therapy" but had to stop while the wife was unemployed. We have been contemplating a new such program. I was not at all impressed with that program. So what programs did you use for HR that you liked?

locking rooms with keyed locks, padlocking others. moving dangerous items to relatives homes, never leaving him alone without adult for more than brief periods and always having an adult present when he is at home. Monthy doctor appointments, medication, placement in special classes. Realizing that corporal punishment has only limeted affect on him and always searching for a new leverage point. Encouraging good behavior with specific rewards taylored just to him. (where do you think this printer thing started? By allowing him to print pages for him to color. That being one of his best loved re

He has been under a doctor's care since Kindergarten. He is diagnosed with ADHD / ODD and now with the printer issues the doctor is adding in OCD tendancies. We go every 4 weeks to see his doctor. He is taking medications to help him with hyperactivity and basically assuage his anxiety which is supposedly what feeds the OCD and / ODD. As far as my comments to time travel go. 1. I can not do that and I know that. 2. I would never wish a child like mine on anyone else in the world. It is beyond frustrating and exceedingly taxing on mine and my entire family's physical, mental and economic he

Not being defensive, but please elaborate on what you feel I did to set him up for failure. Expecting him to abide by house rules or learn from past mistakes and punishment. And again to be truthful, I love my son but I absolutely hate who he is as a person. Defiant, rude, obnoxious, unwilling to listen / learn, disrespectful of all others and the list goes on and on. I tried raising both my daughter and son the same basic way. She is a great young lady and loves her daddy very much. She has become succesful in what she does and has my support whenever she needs / wants it. I will still co

I do not mind legit advice at all, even if it hurts, but last time you apparantly were fixated on corporal punishment and that is basically ineffective on him except for the instant shock value to get him to stop whatever it is he is doing right now. It has no lasting affect just an immediate ""oh crap, I'm in trouble now" impact.

Take it away to where? We had it placed on the very top shelf of my wife's closet. He found it, got it and ran it out of ink. I moved it to a cabinet in the basement daundry room. He found it, got it used the ink up. I replaced the laundry room doorknob with a keyed lock. He has discovered how to defeat that lock with a card. NOTHING and NOWHERE is safe from him in my home. I have padlocks on the outbuilding. I caught him trying to hammer it off with a sledge hammer. As far as time and supervision. Whe you were 8- 10 did your parents keep you under direct visual observation at home 24 / 7? I f

We use it only on rare occasions but yes, most people generally need a printer at home. well unless your boss doesn't mind you using his paper, ink and equipment. We can go for long periods without a need but my daughter is now in middle school and needs it for reports and such as well. Just for clarification. I bought new cartdridges just before tax day to do my taxes becaause we were out of ink. He had also gotten into both of the replacement cartidges that I found on clearance and put away. so that was 3 X $60 right there but the clearance ones were 50% off but now had to be replaced a

Some of you folks have heard me talk about him and his defiance issues. One of "our" big problems is with printers. He LOVES to copy Star Wars stuff to color and play with. While I woud encourage his creativity we do have to balance that against the shear cost of doing this and the problems it creates. There have been multiple times where he has run a BRAND NEW cartridge out overnight. I buy a new one and go to work only to find it depleted when I get home. At $60 a set that adds up for just a bunch of "dolls". That is what he is basically doing, making figures to play with by copying them out

I see it more as a limitation on how and where they can protest. It is very common to require a group to sign up in advance and require them to adhere to a fixed set of guidelines in order to "legaly" assemle and protest. They have just added or strengthened a few more guidelines. For instance, having people line the interstate as pedestrian traffic won't be allowed because of the laws governing pedestrians on the interstate. It makes sense and it applies equally to everyone. So long as it does not limit ther right to make themselves look like the idots they are, then there is no problem. I s -
