  1. Snow has been a bust so far. Only about 1/2 inch showing out of the 3 to 5 inches and approx 50% of that is sleet. North Paulding. If it's sticking on the roads its gonna be a MESS in the morning as it looks like it will freeze into a solid sheet of ice.
  2. I asked my son who is a train rail fan and he says that is not Paulding. He's been taking pictures of trains all over NW Ga for several years and he doesn't recognize the trestle and says those are CSX containers, all the lines in Paulding are Norfolk Southern.
  3. It also shows how career politicians write laws without looking for unintended consequences. Both the Dems and the GOP do it, but I'd have to say it seems the left is more prone to it.
  4. History not read is bound to be repeated. My wife and I both have relatives that are partially paralyzed from getting Polio. Ask them if they'd taken the "risk" of having a vaccine that could have saved them from that dreaded disease. Or ask this guy: Most of the vaccines are for diseases with a chance of major complications up to death: These diseases have not gone away, they are just kept under control via vaccination. Yes, there can be complications from the vaccine, but the consequences of a world *without* vaccines would be disaster. You guys g
  5. Yep, planning on watching when I can. Didn't it start snowing while eggs were in the nest last year? What a crazy time to try to hatch eggs!
  6. I've been lucky enough that 90% of my trips involve countries where you clear customs at the start of the trip and are considered on US soil already so the plane is allowed to go to the domestic terminal. It does mean you have to get to the airport several hours early, but it's nice at the back end.
  7. Dad has had bomb/tornado shelters in both houses that he's built, one in 1965, the other in 1980. Solid concrete walls with 14 inch Concrete ceiling.
  8. Up to 11 deaths now reported and they are still searching home sites.
  9. Yea, the weather radio blasted us awake this morning to announce it. Wish they would reserve the emergency alerts for actual warnings. Too many watch alerts and I end up turning the thing off just as we may need it just to sleep.
  10. The "waste" they are using is not the really bad waste, but I'm not sure I want it in my house anyway. However, if the cost to generated power ratio is high enough, it sounds like a great way to build a 100+ year power plant in the desert SW somewhere. Just keep adding the battery units to expand capacity. After the start up costs, it would be just building maintenance which could be minimized by building it as concrete buildings which would also protect it for years. You could spread the startup costs over 50 years and still have it make sense.
  11. I read of three people in critical condition with burns in a hospital, but am worried about all the missing people. One woman said her husband told her to drive away and he grabbed the hose and was going to try to save the house and she's not seen him since.
  12. I read that they really did have no warning, the fire jumped two mountains and then burst out towards Gatlinburg. People were watching TV in the cabins and heard a boom of a car/transformer exploding down the street and went out to find the neighborhood on fire. Bless them.
  13. LOL, yea, went out with the rider to pick up the leaves before they get soaked into the ground. Didn't have a lot of luck with the wind blowing them off the trees and off the islands as fast as I could vacuum them up. Oh well..
  14. LOL, the profit margin on the iPhone is so high now they could handle double the cost. The only thing would drop would be Apple's Billion $$ profit that is stored overseas right now. My company is ecstatic to have gross margins in the mid 40%. Apple's margin is over 200%. Anyway, as some production moves here of all types of products, more higher paying jobs will open, both providing those workers with more cash and in general pressuring wages up to cover the difference as the unemployment rate goes down. Yes, that's a simplified view of a grossly more complex economic engin
  15. 20% chance for Saturday is best I've seen. Long range forecast seems to show a good chance next Wed, but they are notoriously inaccurate that far out.
  16. Dang. Sounds like a lot of community service should be lined up. Thanks for the report Pubby.
  17. Need to throw these arsonists in the jail and throw away the key.
  18. Amazingly bright last night about 1:00 am. The whole yard was lit like daytime.
  19. Let's have a little fun here.... It's so dry... two trees were seen fighting over a dog in Burnt Hickory Park. It's so dry.. that the Baptists have taken to sprinkling, the Methodists are using a wet rag and the Episcopalians are handing out rain checks. It's so dry... for safety's sake the Hiram City Council banned the Sunday sermon of a local "Fire and Brimstone" preacher. it's so dry.. a wino was spotted drinking straight water from the Dallas Fountain. What you got?
  20. You are not the only one. They question is whether the pollsters were just wrong or if they intentionally biased the polls to come up with the results they wanted. I think it was a little of both. Those that would support Trump are also those that hang up on opinion polls.
  21. We knew a couple like that. Builder kept telling them he needed more money to finish and when he'd drained them dry, he vanished with the house 3/4 built. Our Sunday school class went over one day and did what we could to help get it livable but it was a long way from ready. It was sad.
  22. Not a real baseball fan, but turned to the game in the bottom of the 8th and have to admit it was quite a run to the finish. Feel sorry for the Indians, while the Cubs definitely earned their win, the Indians played their hearts out as well. Congrats Cubs.
  23. Because of the two front runners, they felt that that Trump would be the most easily beat. Had they kept Bernie, that might be the case, but with Hillary, it's a lot closer to backfiring.
  24. Highly recommend someone else looking over it as well. Our son was sending his out and left on the printer, I found two errors in it when he'd looked it over zillions of times and had people at KSU look it over.
