If the wall is prepared properly and a strippable wall paper is used it is easy to remove! I am with you though and I won't put any more up either. You can actually make patterns and borders using paint! It is a far less troublesome issue when you want to redecorate!
I use the gel remover. You roll it on with a paint roller. You do need a paper tiger to pierce it, a scraper to scrape it off, and a bucket of water to wash it off thoroughly!
