  1. The difference is in the processor they're using. The cheaper one is using an older AMD Phenom II CPU and includes a separate Radeon HD4250 graphics processor. The more expensive one is using the new AMD-A processor that combines the CPU with the graphics processor. Both are dual-core processors, The Phenom II based one may benchmark a bit faster, but in real world applications you would probably not notice much of a difference between the two. The AMD-A system would probably have a bit more robust graphics for gaming versus the HD4250, and may be a bit more efficient power wise s
  2. Throw in an internet service and TV and it sounds about right.
  3. Yes. Usually provided wirelessly by using a wireless router connected to your internet modem.
  4. Here's some visual references to the different video connector types, both plugs and sockets. Some standard video cable end plugs: Showing the RCA A/V (top) and RGB Component (bottom) inputs: Some outputs you may find on the back of a computer: Some inputs you may see on the back of a LCD/Plasma/LED flatscreen Monitor or TV:
  5. Just as a guess, you may need an analog converter, there is one sold at local stores for under $20 that does RCA to Coax (coax is the thicker single wire that screws in with the copper wire in it). It would look something like this: But your TV might have other style inputs you aren't aware of? I know any TV built or bought in the past 20 years should offer several different inputs, and based on price and features may have included S-Video or Component (RGB) inputs as well as the older RCA (aka composite) and Coax inputs. I have an older Toshiba tube TV in my bedroom that has (
  6. Yes ma'am, then it would connect easily to your living room TV. Sorry my mistake, when I was looking at the Roku and other players, I was seeing all the HDMI ports and totally ignored the analog A/V output in the pic I posted on here. Just watched some unboxing videos of the Roku on Youtube, and it comes with the Analog cables, but not the digital HDMI cable. Here is a Youtube Unboxing video of the Roku XS, the $99 version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRR3jiIVYHE Worth a watch to see what you all get with the device, the music is a tad annoying tho.
  7. D'oh I just realized that the Roku does support analog Audio Video outputs with the red/white audio, and yellow video, RCA cables. The Boxee device uses only HDMI output on their hardware.
  8. The computer I built for my parents 2 years back has an HDMI output on it, and mom just ordered a 15ft HDMI cable last week and I'm actually going there today to hook the PC to a TV in her computer room so she and my dad can try watching stuff. Simply put, if you can browse to the content you want to see on the PC, you can watch it on a newer flatscreen with the right inputs because all you're doing is using the TV as a secondary monitor by connecting it your Laptop/Computer. If that works for them and they find it to be to their liking, then I'll talk with them about getting some type of unit
  9. The Roku was originally produced by Netflix for their own streaming services, but they sold that idea to another partner company and opened up "channels" for content creators to utilize, but adoption has been slow, as it's mostly subscription services putting the effort in to offer channels. Not saying that they may not offer the content you specifically watch, but it would be wise to check to make sure they do before buying. Also since you already have the laptop, is there a video out on your laptop (HDMI or VGA)? Do you own a newish flatscreen LCD type TV with HDMI or VGA inputs? If s
  10. Well box is cheap, but you're very limited in content unless you pay for subscriptions, and even then you're still limited by who supports the hardware. IE: you just can't log into a website that rebroadcasts legally and view the content like you can on a PC. It also doesn't support streaming media from your computer to the unit, and it's limited by what file types it can play using the USB. And considering there are bandwidth caps with most internet providers now there's a chance you might be flagged for using too much, via Comcast (who has never set a national hard limit), or go over th
  11. I know this is geared more towards the girlies on the board but I always ask for socks and underwear, no matter the occasion. Had to explain to the in-laws when doing our first "thing" together where I was to get gifts that that was something I would definitely need and use, daily, no matter how uncomfortable it made them to buy it, wrap it, and give it. Now it seems to be a given all the men get that for any occasion where a present needs to be bought. Beyond that, wishful dreaming, then I'll take the $10 million dollars and a red Lamborghini. Or, realistically, drop about $200 o
  12. Ovar thar in that aire hen howse. That's where I saw it today, at the check out beside the Monkey Butt Remover. I found that pic to show the wife, and when I saw the Grandpa saying on the box in the pic, I realized I heard that a few times growing up.
  13. Mmmmm.. I haven't had a good homemade sandwich in forever. I'm sitting down to: Crispy grilled Porkchops Garlic white rice Field peas and snaps out of the can.
  14. I know the pain, we had our cable stay pull lose on our well the other night last week. It broke the fitting going into the well and our well line was 5 foot below the stack and our entire well house was flooded. The only thing holding it up that far was the power cable and a secondary *oh shiz* cable stay. It was a fearsome night as it took me 3 hours to secure the thing all by myself and get it tied off well enough to leave it until the next day when I could get help pulling it back up and out and getting it all fixed.
  15. Meh.. My opinion is if the driver has the minimum coverage as required by law then they're legal, and all the moralizing in the world isn't going to make a difference if they're broke and living from paycheck to paycheck. Kinda lucky the OP even has insurance considering that statistically as of 2010; 1 out of every 7-10 drivers in Georgia is driving uninsured.
  16. Yup they're omnivores, nectar in spring/summer, other insects in summer/fall. Main issue tho is that if one becomes upset they all become upset and if the nest mobilizes they can quickly overcome and kill small animals and children. Adults sensitive to insect stings need to be wary too. Unlike a wasp nest there can be several hundred hornets hiding out inside.
  17. Well I did some proper searching, after realizing the HP glowing logo was a feature on their laptops, and there are tons of complaints about the HP logo and how it can't be turned off on various (maybe all?) models, as it's bright and annoying for different reasons with some people. But if that is what's bleeding through to your screen then that's still a bad design to not be isolated from your viewing side. Maybe there's a setting to turn it off in the updated bios? Who knows, but yeah if you're dissatisfied, then you're dissatisfied. I'm fairly happy with my custom Dell laptop, but
  18. As I understand it, LED monitors have the lights in the corners, as well as having them along the edges on bigger monitors, so it distributes the brightness as evenly as possible, which is different from LCD which have cold cathode tubes at the tops and bottoms. I know there were complaints about some of the earlier LED monitors which had extreme light bleed through on the corners on dark websites or when viewing movies. But for the corner to be lighting up when the monitor goes into standby mode, but not showing bleed through on dark pages just screams manufacturing defect to me, if it's
  19. Well like cracked out gangsters, you piss one off you piss them all off, then they run around your property lootin' and poppin' stingers in yo azz. I mean I'm no speciesist but man, they just ain't like us.
  20. Considering that at the moment HP is going to be getting out of the consumer hardware business, I'd not worry about the issue, which sounds like a monitor defect, and grab another brand of laptop asap. There's no telling who's going to pick up their consumer desktop/laptop division and if you'll have any sort of future remedy or support through them. I'd definitely look at Dell or a Toshiba.
  21. Then who the heck is gonna record it and put the "Hey Y'all, watch this!!" moment on Youtube?
  22. Aren't there any outdoorsmen who collect these anymore? I remember growing up I had an uncle that hunted, fished, and would collect hornet nests. All he'd do is build a big smoldering fire under them and keep it smoldering all day and eventually they all evacuate the nest, when the queen drops out you kill her, then you climb up the tree and with some help cut the limb off the nest is on, take it and put it in a storage container so the remaining drones and such die, and within a few weeks you have a big nice trophy. Then again a few cans of hornet/wasp killer, and going out and
  23. And then if you're lucky to get offered the job, it's like a 100 mile commute to the other side of wherever and you pretty much spend over 50% of your take home pay putting it back into your gas tank.
