  1. I'm already making plans to shop locally on Saturday to support the local economy.
  2. I received the grand opening postcard and wondered if it was a mistake. I did not realize that the store was reopening. I have missed the Ace Hardware greatly since they closed and I will be shopping there as soon as possible. As the OP noted, WOOT! WOOT!!
  3. I saw the magazine at a hair salon and read it while I was there. The idea of gardens and guns togehter was strange at first but then I thought about it a little. Men have their guns and women have their gardens. It was such a stereotype of the South that I just had to laugh. Upon reading the articles in the magazine I found them to be very well written and I was very impressed. And, I don't believe I had ever seen full page glossy ads for hunting dogs until then.
  4. This has been awesome. It has been great to watch all the neighborhood kids playing together like kids instead of all going in different directions for some sport or hobby as they do on the weekends. I know at one point I stopped making mugs of cocoa and simply brewed a whole pot of it which is a first for me. We have been averaging 3 cups of cocoa per kid per day and I'm out of mix and "making do" with Hershey's syrup. LOL! Personally, I've started my Spring cleaning early and have been pouring over seed catalogs to get a jump on my Spring garden. This has just been the best sno
  5. I remember the storm. I was in high school and the school system let us go home early because of the pending weather. A friend came home with me and, being the stupid teenagers that we were, we decided to head out and walk to her house about 4 to 5 miles away. Thankfully, we must have called to let her parents know that we were coming because her father set out from her house to meet us. I can still hear the sound of him coming down the road in the hush of the snow fall...driving a Land Rover with snow chains. Thwap, thwap, thwap. That is my Snow Jam memory.
  6. Thanks for the info. Peanut butter french toast sounds interesting.
  7. Do you know if they are open on Sunday? I've been thinking about giving them a try.
  8. Thanks very much for an update on the tunnels.
  9. Hubby and I haven't tried them but did drive by last weekend (Saturday) and they looked like they were packed. If a full parking lot is any indication (and it usually is), they must be doing something right.
  10. FYI. The snow has stopped where I am (Mt. Tabor near Hwy. 381) and the roads in my subdivision are clearing in small spots. Cars seem to be passing without difficulty. The snow in the yard is pretty much the same.
  11. I just got home from Marietta/Cobb. Picked-up DS from school and roads where wet in most places, slushy in shady areas. The crossroad at Hwys. 92 and 381 was clear. As I left Hwy. 381 onto Mt. Tabor the roads got slushy FAST. I got a little sideways going into my subdivision but I was going a tad bit fast. All downhill to my house and I slid if I went faster than a roll. It wasn't that the snow was freezing, it was due to the volume of wet snow on the road. More like hydroplaning. 2-3 inches of snow easy in the neighborhood already but we are at a slightly higher elevation. The letter
  12. My problems started after I was unexpectedly laid off from a job. I had to accept the first job that I was offered and found myself working for a real monster. The job was horrible and difficult trials and tribulations continued to follow. After I realized that I needed to do something for growing depression and anxiety, I started taking St. John's Wart. That worked wonderfully well for a couple of years however, the main cause of my problems was still there; my job. The anxiety began to manifest itself when I was driving. I could not get over the fear of being hit by another car from be
  13. My late FIL used to put a little Coca Cola in his greens and they were always fabulous.
  14. Getting ready to start my greens. I'm going to try a recipe for cooking them from Paula Deen. It sounds pretty much like the way I have prepared them in the past but I'll tweak it a little bit. I can't wait for greens and cornbread. HEAVEN!!
  15. King Tut, obscure maybe but hilarious nonetheless!!! Born at Kennestone, lived in Marietta all my life (except for 2 years in LA) and moved to Paulding in 1995. Sure, things have changed but I really love it out here.
  16. My husband purchased his Stihl backpack blower from Cobb Hardware a couple of years ago as he had experience with their service departement. They definitly have the service support for what they sell. However, Friday he got his blower out (for obvious reasons LOL!) and it would not start. He took it to Parker yesterday morning to see if they could figure out what was wrong. I was expecting it would take weeks for service however he had it back within hours and the fix was simple and cheap. It was our first experience with Parkers and we were/are very pleased with the result. I would cert
  17. I renewed my permit not long ago on a Friday morning. I received the permit in the mail the next day. I was told it would take 3 weeks.
  18. I was called to Fed jury duty in Rome about a year ago. I was really dreading it as I had a 3 yo in daycare. I was told to expect 2 weeks of duty as well. The drive wasn't bad. Unlike some areas, you get to park right at the courthouse. Be prepared to go through the security screen...no knives, etc. Make sure that you have any cell phone on silent (don't want to anger the judge). Take a bottle of water with you and some snacks but leave them in the car. I didn't know what to expect in terms of the type of case I might be called to sit for however I was surprised that there
