  1. In the interest of appetite, they really ought to come up with a better name than "congealed salad." That just sounds GROSS. (I actually enjoy some of these...cranberry-pretzel salad is AMAZING!!) But "congealed" is just not a good appetite word. Ick.
  2. Unlike you, I am not psychic, and I wasn't there. But the taped portion of people booing doesn't sound like more than 15%. That leaves a full 85% that either didn't boo, and/or cast disapproving looks at those few who did. But I wasn't there, so I really don't know. We all listened to the same tape. You heard what you wanted to hear to justify what you wanted to say when you made this post. Git'r done!
  3. And you have obviously missed my point completely, not that I am surprised. Did you bother reading my link? There were plenty of NASCAR "fans" who found that unacceptable and rude. But whatever.
  4. No, sir, YOU save it. I've been to plenty myself. And yes, there is an abundance of redneck @$$holes to be found at any of them. No one with any sense would dispute that. The problem is when folks decide the worst represents the whole. And that, sir, is contrary to FACT.
  5. That recipe sounds really good! And very close to my Grandma's recipe, too! Only, I add raw beaten eggs to the batter before baking.
  6. There were 5 seconds on the clip where the grand marshals were announced, then the crowd CHEERED. And then the engines started. And yet, you know what everyone said or did during and after those 5 seconds? You got a line on some lottery numbers, too? Because if you're that good, you really ought to invest in a ticket this week!
  7. I shared a recipe in this thread last night...cornbread dressing like my Grandma made. It's never dry. The trick is getting enough broth in your batter before you bake it. It looks like it will be too thin before it's baked, but it should look like a thick cake batter. Then it will bake up moist, not dry!
  8. And you dropped 4 by lumping together all "NASCAR fans"...
  9. It is so COMPLETELY UNFAIR of you to lump ALL NASCAR fans in with any idiot who would boo The First Lady. It's is almost as wrong as booing the First Lady. Even the article you have in your "linky" (REALLY? LINKY? ) says: "The NASCAR community and the vast majority of those attending our race Sunday welcomed the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden and the military families in attendance," said Marcus Jadotte, NASCAR vice president of public affairs. "We are proud to support military families across the country and proud to support the Joining Forces initiative." Read this. It's
  10. I have enjoyed watching the series, but seriously...the whole plot line was paper thin, and there was just NO WHERE for them to go beyond where they've already been. And...I mean really? WHO did you really care about learning more about? The plot has nowhere to go. They overplayed the whole thing up front. There's not much mystery, and no real story to bring people back. I'm not at all surprised. It could have been a good show, nostalgic and all that, but they gave too much away, and I can't see it being sustainable. Just my opinion.
  11. I cannot stand ANY sweet potato "creation." I LOVE a baked sweet potato with real butter. Anything else is just an insult to the natural sweetness of the potato. JMHO.
  12. For Thanksgiving, I offer herb-roasted turkey: 10 to 12 pound turkey, fresh or frozen 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning 4 sprigs each fresh parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter or 1/2 cup oil (I use olive oil) 1 cup low-sodium stock from turkey giblets Preparation 3 days before serving If frozen, thaw turkey in refrigerator for 3 days. 1 day before serving Remove giblets from turkey and make giblet stock. Serving day Preheat oven to 425º F. Rinse turkey with cold water, then pat dry with clean paper towels. Using several fingers, loosen skin
  13. I found this recipe that's very similar, except I don't add green pepper--YUCK! But it's a very similar recipe to my Grandma's--from Texas, so go figure, right?
  14. I do it by sight!! It requires a large pan of day-old cornbread, baked in a cast iron skillet. Crumble that in a large bowl. To that, add...I dunno...3-4 cups of chicken broth made from boiling (and draining) the giblets, and cooked with chopped onion and celery--about 1/2 cup of each. Stir in about 6 pieces of white or wheat bread, torn into small pieces. The mixture should be a medium-thick, pasty quality. To that, add about 4 beaten eggs and I dunno...maybe about a tablespoon of rubbed sage. Mix well and taste for that perfect dressing taste. Add salt and pepper as needed.
  15. Herbed roasted turkey my Grandma's cornbread dressing recipe green bean casserole baked sweet potatoes with butter (I detest yam casseroles) mashed little red new potatoes with skins on homemade cranberry salsa mixed green and veggie salad with ranch dressing fresh-baked yeast rolls pumpkin cheesecake for dessert Pretty much just very traditional. Love it.
  16. I have an Android tablet with OS 2.2 accessing my WiFi, and I have had no problems, nor did I have to add anything for the access. And we have 2 laptops and 2 desktops accessing our wireless in addition to my tablet. However, I have found that most of the "free" apps for the Android want too many permissions that just don't make sense, so I have downloaded almost nothing as far as apps go. The Android is cool for mobile access and such, but that's about it. At least for me.
  17. I would agree with you had he not walked onto the stage from day 1 with that same lousy attitude. He needs to learn a little humility, grace, and maybe a bit of kindness. Because one day he's going to wake up and find out the hard way--it really ISN'T all about him, and he's actually NOT God's gift to music. Or the X Factor. Or LA Reid or Simon Cowell or the audience who has the ability to vote him through--or NOT.
  18. Agreed. However, Astro is what? 14? And LA has as much as said that he'd be a star no matter what. And LA has the ability to make that happen. Stacy is 42 years old, and this was her only real shot. I know it wasn't easy...but the judges were unhappy with Astro's attitude, and he doesn't need to be rewarded for acting like a rotten diva. He'll be OK (though I personally think he $ucks). He needs to learn several ounces of humility, and "winning" tonight will just boost his irritating cockiness. Tough decision, yes. Also a BAD decision, IMHO.
  19. I missed that your surgery was this week!!!! I AM SO SORRY!! Please let me know if I can do anything to help you. I'm glad to hear things went so well! I feel like the worst Internet friend EVER. Get well soon!
  20. Simon should have sent that little jerk home to grow up!
  21. Is anyone else watching? I really CAN'T STAND that cocky little Astro kid, but Stacy's performance of Amazing Grace was horrendous! Astro comes out and says, "I really don't think it's necessary for me to perform, but OK." Then he goes on to say, "Do you guys think I should perform?" What a little JERK!! (If you weren't watching but know the show, Astro and Stacy were the bottom 2, and had to perform to save themselves. Only one gets to go through, judge's choice after this performance. Sadly, Stacy sounded like cr@p--but that Astro jerko kid rubs me all the wrong way!!)
  22. Gingrey isn't my specific congressional representative. By just a few feet. Here is the odd district map. The red X is where I live: What is interesting to note is that, though this isn't a "political issue," the lion's share of the $$ donated by "interests that support this bill" have gone to Dems, with the largest recipient from that group being Sen. Charles Schumer [D, NY]. And those who are in support of the proposal are almost equally divided between D and R. I agree with CrownApp. It's always good to be informed and to be prepared to speak out when those who represent u
